Moves Hydro Pump is Omanyte's best offensive move, being able to threaten any neutral target after a Speed boost. Knock Off weakens switch-ins that might come in to stop the Shell Smash set, especially bulky ones like Mareanie, Staryu, and Ferroseed. Spikes in combination with Stealth Rock can be very effective at forcing passive damage on the opposing team, especially if Omanyte's partners can prevent or punish entry hazard removal. Blizzard hits Grass-types like Grookey and Foongus on the switch, while Ice Beam is a safer but considerably weaker option. Toxic Spikes helps against hyper offense teams, which rarely use Poison-types. Set Details Defense investment with Eviolite allows Omanyte to more easily switch in multiple times, avoiding the OHKO from strong super effective attacks like Earthquake from Life Orb Diglett and High Jump Kick from Eviolite Mienfoo. 13 Speed is enough to outspeed the entire unboosted metagame after a Weak Armor boost, as well as most common Choice Scarf users. The Speed boost provided by Weak Armor allows it to generate offensive pressure or set multiple layers of entry hazards. Another possible EV spread alongside Grookey is 156 HP / 196 SpA / 156 Spe with a Timid nature; it allows Omanyte to survive all the needed hits, like Earthquake from Diglett and Mudbray, under Grassy Terrain while also getting an extra point in Special Attack. Usage Tips Omanyte is a common pick on entry hazard-stacking hyper offense teams as a dedicated lead, setting at least Stealth Rock and a layer of Spikes against most opposing leads. It is best utilized early- and mid-game by safely switching into common Pokemon like Choice-locked Vulpix and Porygon to set entry hazards. Omanyte should always get on the field through a pivot move or by switching into a resisted hit, preferably physical attacks to get the Weak Armor boost. If the matchup is not favorable and the opponent can KO Omanyte before it can do anything, the main goal is to try and set one or two layers of Spikes before it's removed from the game. Team Options On hyper offense teams, good sweepers and wallbreakers like Grookey, Choice Scarf Mudbray, and Life Orb Abra appreciate Omanyte's ability to set entry hazards and weaken their targets. On balance teams, it needs teammates that can switch into Grookey, so Foongus, Koffing, and Ponyta are good picks. Omanyte also benefits from pivot moves that allow it to come on the field safely, like U-turn from Mienfoo and Volt Switch from Magnemite. Pawniard punishes Defog attempts, while Magnemite, Tyrunt, and Grookey pressure common entry hazard control measures like Natu and Staryu; also, Diglett can trap the latter.

Hydro Pump KOes most non-Water-resistant targets and has a high chance to KO foes like Mienfoo after Shell Smash. Surf is an alternative that's more accurate but requires notably more prior damage to get KOs. Ice Beam hits Grass-types like Foongus and Grookey, and it's the best move to hit Ferroseed, as well as being a safer option to hit Natu and Ground-types. Earth Power allows Omanyte to OHKO Mareanie and hit Staryu. Set Details A Modest nature is preferred for damage output, as Omanyte does not need a Timid nature to outspeed Choice Scarf users like Mienfoo after Shell Smash. Eviolite and Shell Armor give it more opportunities to set up. Usage Tips Omanyte should be used as a late-game sweeper that sets up after its checks and counters are damaged or removed. In particular, Ferroseed, Grookey, and Timburr should be removed, as they can survive a hit and revenge kill Omanyte after Shell Smash. Omanyte's typing doesn't allow it to set up in front of many common Pokemon, but the best ones are Choice-locked Vulpix and Choice-locked Porygon. Team Options Trapinch is the best partner on balance teams because it traps and removes Omanyte's strongest counters in Grookey and Ferroseed, as well ass being able to deal with Pawniard. Ponyta is another option to remove these counters. Fighting-resistant foes like Koffing and Foongus, or the more niche Spritzee, help against Mienfoo and especially Timburr with its threatening Mach Punch. Ferroseed is a good counter to Focus Sash Abra and SturdyJuice Magnemite and can cripple them with Knock Off, which is a good move to have on various team members to weaken Staryu and opposing Ferroseed. Omanyte can also fit on dual screens hyper offense teams, usually using Natu as a dual screens setter; common partners on this team structure are Swords Dance Grookey and Pawniard.

Moves Omanyte has an easy time setting up entry hazards throughout a match, so Spikes is a good choice in the first slot because it can be stacked. If nothing else on Omanyte's team can fit Stealth Rock on to its moveset, however, and Omanyte is using a different move in its fourth moveslot, Stealth Rock can be run as well. Hydro Pump hits anything that doesn't resist it very hard and keeps this Omanyte set from being passive while setting up hazards. Knock Off allows Omanyte to support its teammates by luring in key Pokemon, such as Grass- and Fighting-types, and removing their items. Knock Off can also cripple Berry Juice users that are trying to set up entry hazards alongside Omanyte, such as Dwebble, and can even weaken Pokemon for Omanyte itself to deal with. Stealth Rock is the preferred option in the final moveslot, as Omanyte is one of the most reliable Stealth Rock setters for offensive teams. Toxic Spikes is an interesting option in this slot as well, as Omanyte is the only non-Poison-type in the LC metagame that can set it effectively. However, on faster-paced teams that don't take enough hits to appreciate Toxic Spikes wearing down the foe, Stealth Rock is the entry hazard of choice. Ice Beam can be run on this slot for coverage and to help KO the Grass-types that Omanyte lures in. Set Details The given defensive EVs, when used in conjunction with an Eviolite, allow Omanyte to survive Jolly Regenerator Mienfoo's High Jump Kick and Life Orb Diglett's Earthquake after Stealth Rock nearly all of the time while still surviving certain key super-effective attacks such as Magnemite's Volt Switch. 156 Speed EVs give Omanyte 12 Speed, allowing it to outspeed RestTalk Mudbray before a Weak Armor boost, and outspeed the entire unboosted metagame and Choice Scarf users with less than 15 Speed after a Weak Armor boost. The remaining EVs and a Modest nature go towards maximizing Omanyte's Special Attack, allowing it to OHKO Berry Juice Mudbray, as well as Mienfoo and more defensive Mudbray variants after they have been hit by Knock Off. Weak Armor doubles Omanyte's Speed when it takes a hit, enabling it to reliably set more entry hazards or pressure the opponent's team with attacking moves. Usage Tips Omanyte can work well at various points throughout a match. On hyper offense teams, it works well as a lead, nearly always surviving an attack and getting two layers of Spikes or Stealth Rock up and putting immediate offensive pressure on the opposing team. Omanyte also cripples common Dwebble and Onix leads with Knock Off, and KOes them with Hydro Pump. On other teams, Omanyte works through the early- and mid-game, switching into resisted Fire-, Ice-, and Flying-type attacks to get a Weak Armor boost and continuing to stack entry hazards or disrupt the opposing team with Knock Off. Omanyte can take advantage of its unpredictability to bluff a Shell Smash set; however, the opponent will be cautious about activating Weak Armor after they know it has Weak Armor, so plan switches to activate Weak Armor accordingly. Team Options This Omanyte set works best on offensive teams, which appreciate its ability to check certain Pokemon and set entry hazards while maintaining an offensive presence. Hard-hitting Pokemon that appreciate hazard support make for good partners, including Abra, Gastly, and setup sweepers like Scraggy and Shell Smash users. Pumpkaboo makes for a very good partner due to its ability to keep up the hazards Omanyte sets on the field by blocking Rapid Spin and its ability to lure in Fire- and Flying-type attacks, which Omanyte can switch in on and get a Weak Armor boost from. Pokemon that can take advantage of Defog users, including Defiant Pawniard and some Rock-type Pokemon, make good partners to deter the removal of Omanyte's hazards through Defog. Pokemon like Carvanha, Corphish, Scraggy, and Choice Scarf Mienfoo that appreciate Omanyte's ability to lure in and use Knock Off on Grass-types, such as Cottonee and Foongus, make good partners. Timburr especially appreciates the weakening of Cottonee and Foongus, and appreciates hazard support if attempting to clean up a team with Bulk Up.

Moves Shell Smash allows Omanyte to function as a very effective sweeper, patching up its poor Speed stat and doubling its high Special Attack in a single turn. Hydro Pump is Omanyte's most powerful STAB move, able to KO most Pokemon that don't resist it with a small amount of prior damage, specifically Timburr. Surf can be used as a less powerful alternative with higher accuracy on teams that can easily wear down bulky Pokemon enough for Hydro Pump to be unnecessary. Ice Beam hits the Grass-types that resist Hydro Pump, including Foongus, Cottonee, and Snivy, as well as certain bulky Pokemon such as Vullaby more accurately than Hydro Pump. Earth Power is a valuable coverage move, able to hit Pokemon such as Chinchou, Croagunk, and Mareanie that take little damage from Hydro Pump and Ice Beam. Alternatively, Hidden Power Grass is an option to hit bulky Water-types harder, most notably Staryu, while still securing a KO on most Chinchou variants. Set Details The given EV spread maximizes Omanyte's Special Attack and its Speed so that it can hit as hard as possible and reach 26 Speed with a Shell Smash boost, outspeeding practically every Choice Scarf user in the metagame, making it harder to revenge kill. The remaining EVs go into HP, which, when coupled with Eviolite, increases Omanyte's ability to take hits while setting up Shell Smash. Shell Armor is the preferred ability on the set, as rain is rarely seen in LC, rendering Swift Swim useless, and Weak Armor lowers Omanyte's Defense, leaving it susceptible to being revenge killed by priority moves. Usage Tips Shell Smash Omanyte works as a late-game sweeper, meaning it should virtually always be preserved until its checks and counters are weakened enough for it to sweep, and the priority users that can revenge kill it have been eliminated. Omanyte should usually attempt to set up with Shell Smash when it can secure a turn against a Pokemon whose moves it resists, such as a Flying-type that is locked into its Flying-type STAB attack, a Fire-type, or a more passive Pokemon. After Omanyte has set up, it can sweep with its wide coverage. Team Options Memento support is especially helpful, as it increases the opportunities Omanyte has to set up. For this reason, Cottonee, which can also provide Knock Off support, is a good option, especially because it lures in the Fire-, Flying-, and Poison-types that Omanyte can set up on. Alolan Grimer can trap Focus Sash Abra, which often acts as a safety net to Omanyte sweeps, with Pursuit; it also has access to Memento, though it shares a Ground weakness with Omanyte. Will-O-Wisp Gastly can bring in opposing Pawniard and cripple them with a burn, making Omanyte less susceptible to getting picked off by Sucker Punch. Gastly is also immune to Fighting-type priority, which allows it to revenge kill Fighting-type Pokemon easily. Entry hazards assist Omanyte in its sweep by weakening Pokemon that switch into it and breaking opposing Sturdy. Ferroseed sets hazards well, and it can lure in and use Knock Off on the Fighting-types that look to check Omanyte. Dwebble also can use Knock Off and set both Stealth Rock and Spikes. Knock Off users can soften bulkier Pokemon so that Omanyte can sweep. Fighting-types such as Mienfoo and Timburr can lure in Pokemon such as Foongus and Spritzee and use Knock Off on them, allowing Omanyte to deal with them later in the game. Pancham can do the same but also has access to Parting Shot, which can bring Omanyte in safely and give it a setup opportunity late in the game.

Omanyte is one of the few very effective entry hazard supporters in the Little Cup metagame. Having access to all three forms of entry hazards (Stealth Rock, Spikes, and Toxic Spikes), as well as boasting a high Defense stat, Omanyte won't have a hard time setting up multiple layers of two of the three of the aforementioned hazards. Also, Omanyte is basically the only Pokemon who can effectively set up Spikes or Toxic Spikes, as the other pokemon with access to these moves, such as Pineco, are not equipped to deal with the metagame. As for attacking options, Surf is the primary STAB move of choice, hitting for decent damage so Omanyte is not left helpless offensively. Ancient Power serves as a secondary STAB move, hitting Pokemon like Paras and Mantyke that take Surf with impunity. However, Ice Beam can be used to deal heavy damage against opposing Grass-types, as well as damaging Croagunk and Dratini. If you opt to use Toxic Spikes, Protect may be a worthwhile option give Omanyte a chance to stall the opponent for poison damage. Protect also helps Omanyte scout for dangerous attacks coming from the likes of Choice Scarf Mankey and Gligar. Pairing up Omanyte with Hippopotas is a great idea, as the sandstorm Hippopotas summons increases Omanyte's Special Defense by 1.5x, enhancing its durability on the special side. It's also recommended to use Pokemon who can cover Omanyte's weaknesses to Fighting, Electric, and Grass. This can be done by using Gligar, who resists Fighting and is immune to Electric, or Paras, who resists all of the three types.

With rain up, Omanyte reaches a Speed of 28, effectively allowing it to outpace the entirety of the metagame that does not run Choice Scarf. Along with its devastating Special Attack, Omanyte has no trouble making holes in the opponent's team. Hydro Pump is fantastic with the boost from Life Orb and rain, as it can 2HKO almost every Pokemon who isn't immune to it. Ice Beam is a nice coverage move as it allows you to his Dratini for super effective damage, who otherwise would KO you. Earth Power OHKOes Chinchou the majority of the time with Stealth Rock on the field, and can also OHKO Croagunk if you predict its switch-in. Ancient Power can OHKO Snover, though be careful since you tie with max Speed Snover and you will be outpaced by Choice Scarf variants. Ancient Power can also 2HKO Mantyke, who is immune to Hydro Pump if it has Water Absorb as its ability. Here are some calculations to show how devastating Hydro Pump can be with the rain boost. Hydro Pump vs 220/148 Bronzor: 108% - 132% Hydro Pump vs 252/252 Munchlax: 72.7% - 84.8% Hydro Pump vs 252/252 Chinchou: 48.1% - 59.3% Hydro Pump vs 252/252 Shroomish: 52% - 64% Hydro Pump vs 252/252 Snover (in hail): 36% - 44% Omanyte loves to have Stealth Rock on the field, as it helps deal with Mantyke and Snover. Bronzor is a good choice for a Pokemon to set Stealth Rock and Rain Dance up for Omanyte due to it's bulk; Bronzor can also deal with Choice Scarf Snover and Croagunk fairly easily. Wynaut is also a great partner for Omanyte as it can trap and kill Croagunk and the Choice Scarf-wielding Pokemon whom Omanyte ties or loses to, such as Elekid. You will need a Pokemon to set up Rain Dance for Omanyte to sweep. Bronzor, as previously mentioned, is a good choice for such a role due to its bulk and access to Stealth Rock. Voltorb is also a great choice as a lead to set Rain Dance up since it outpaces almost all leads, can Taunt other Pokemon trying to set up Sunny Day or Trick Room, and can Explode, creating a free switch-in for Omanyte.

Omanyte has access to Rock Polish which allows it to double its Speed stat, so Omanyte no longer has to worry about setting up rain to sweep. With the given EVs, Omanyte reaches 22 Speed which allows it to outpace all Pokemon who aren't equipped with a Choice Scarf. The spread gives Omanyte a decent amount of bulk, helping it set up Rock Polish much easier. Shell Armor is the preferred ability so you won't have to fear critical hits. Hydro Pump allows you to power your way through most Pokemon with its 120 Base Power. Ancient Power and Earth Power allow you to hit Paras and Croagunk respectively, who are immune to Water-type attacks. Hidden Power Grass or Hidden Power Electric can be used to hit Water-types but Hydro Pump does roughly the same amount of damage. Wynaut is a great partner for Omanyte since it can trap Croagunk that lack Dark Pulse or Shadow Ball. It also creates opportunities for Omanyte to use Rock Polish thanks to Encore. Gligar is also an effective partner for Omanyte. Gligar resists Fighting-type moves and is immune to Ground- and Electric-type attacks, all of which Omanyte is weak against. Another partner for Omanyte is Gastly, which is immune to Fighting- and Ground-type moves and can lure in Munchlax and burn it with Will-O-Wisp

This set uses Omanyte's Defense stat to help it tank physical attacks so Omanyte has an easier time switching in and then sweeping. With its above average defenses, Omanyte can easily set rain up for itself, and then sweep. With a Modest nature and 200 Special Attack EVs, Omanyte reaches 19 Special Attack, while the 76 Speed EVs allow Omanyte to reach a stat of 22 under rain, making it outpace all non-Choice Scarf Pokemon. Oran Berry is the preferred item on the set because it restores Omanyte's health, although you can use Damp Rock to increase the duration of rain. Surf is the primary attacking move on the set. In the rain, Surf can dent most Pokemon who aren't immune or resistant to it. Earth Power can be used to hit Electric-types and Croagunk, while Ice Beam can hit Grass- and Dragon-types that resist Surf. Hidden Power Electric allows Omanyte to hit Water-types, especially Mantyke. This Omanyte set has troubles with Snover. Bronzor can switch in on Snover and threaten it out with STAB super effective Gyro Ball while also setting down Stealth Rock, limiting the number of times Snover can switch back in. Wynaut is also a great partner for Omanyte, as it can trap Croagunk (who can OHKO Omanyte with Vacuum Wave) and can also create a free turn for Omanyte to set up rain. Another threat is Munchlax, who is able to KO Omanyte before Omanyte can 3HKO it back, however, Bronzor, again, can handle Munchlax fine. If you run Ice Beam instead of Earth Power, Chinchou becomes a problem. You can use Croagunk to deal with it by using Fake Out and Sucker Punch. Using Earth Power leaves you open to Paras and Shroomish, though, so using a Fire-type to dispatch them easily is a good idea.
