Naganadel can either severely weaken opposing teams with brute force from Nasty Plot-boosted attacks or break walls that Mega Scizor weakens or hinders with Knock Off, while Latios works as a great revenge killer with Choice Scarf, threatens Toxapex, and can provide Mega Scizor better setup opportunities by crippling a wall with Trick. Ground-types like Landorus-T and Garchomp threaten Steel-types and set Stealth Rock for Mega Scizor. However, Choice Band Scizor lacks any recovery and can be worn down easily, especially if entry hazards are on the field, so be sure to conserve Scizor's HP when necessary. Scizor can get easily walled by strong physically defensive walls such as Cyclohm, Tomohawk, and Skarmory, so predicting these switch-ins and U-turning out can let Scizor provide momentum for its teammates. Note that Scizor can get paralyzed by Cyclohm's Static or hit by Rocky Helmet in the process, though. Early- and mid-game, Scizor will mostly only use U-turn to provide momentum, unless it needs to revenge kill with Bullet Punch or predict a switch and attack with its coverage moves. Powerful special attackers such as Mollux and Choice Specs Sylveon can deal with the physical walls that wall Scizor. Pokemon with Rapid Spin, such as Colossoil and Tomohawk, or Defog users such as Latias, are ideal partners for Scizor, as they can remove the entry hazards that wear it down. Pokemon with Volt Switch or U-turn, such as Rotom-W, Colossoil, Landorus-T, Kitsunoh, and Talonflame, can all form a strong VoltTurn core with Scizor. If this is the case, a late-game cleaner such as Choice Band Talonflame or Mega Sharpedo is useful for sweeping teams that have been weakened by the VoltTurn core. Entry hazard users such as Heatran or Tomohawk are also good teammates, as entry hazards weaken many Scizor checks, such as Talonflame and Mollux, and can rack up damage through Scizor's ability to force switches. Try to not Defog if the opponent has a Bisharp, because Bisharp gains a +2 Attack boost if it switches into Defog. Avoid burns, which take away from Scizor's bulk and longevity, as well as crippling its already uninvested Attack, but note that Scizor should still use U-turn even when burned for the momentum it gives. Team Options Scizor can be a very reliable entry hazard control Pokemon in VoltTurn cores, performing as a great physical wall, pivot, and check to Fairy-types. Therefore, common Pokemon with access to Volt Switch or U-turn, such as Rotom-W, Colossoil, Talonflame, and Volkraken, are great partners; excluding Colossoil, they also resist Scizor's horrible Fire weakness. Mega Beedrill and Syclant also have access to U-turn and appreciate the physical bulk that Scizor brings. Having said that, Scizor is a great defensive pivot even without VoltTurn shenanigans, so any team that appreciates an answer to powerful physical attackers won't mind Scizor as a teammate, and Scizor is not too hard to accommodate for. Pokemon that resist Fire or have the ability Flash Fire, most notably Heatran, are great partners for Scizor, which needs a teammate that can switch into Fire-type attacks. Assault Vest Colossoil is also an option, as it can take the more common special Fire-type attacks and hit their users back with Earthquake. Colossoil also has the advantage of having access to Guts and Rebound, so it can absorb or bounce back Will-O-Wisp for Scizor and switch into the common Lava Plume from Pokemon such as Mollux and Heatran.

In this regard, watching out for Fire-type coverage is essential, as Mega Scizor will often get OHKOed even by weaker Fire-type attacks such as Hidden Power Fire. Making sure Pokemon which commonly run Hidden Power Fire or any other Fire-type coverage move, as well as Fire-type Pokemon, are gone before you sweep is a necessity. Pokemon that resist or can tank Fire-type attacks, such as Cyclohm, Heatran, and Rotom-W, are great partners for Mega Scizor, as they provide a reliable switch-in for Mega Scizor's counters, while Mega Scizor's bulk and good defensive typing often cover their weaknesses in return. Heatran is a particularly good partner, as it absorbs Fire-type attacks and Will-O-Wisp with Flash Fire. Heatran also has Fire-type STAB moves for the Steel-types that resist Mega Scizor's STAB moves, and Earth Power for the Fire-types that destroy Mega Scizor. Magic Bounce users and Rebound Colossoil can bounce back the status moves that threaten to cripple Mega Scizor, while Guts and Magic Guard users can absorb status. Heal Bell users can heal Mega Scizor from burns or paralysis.

Moves Swords Dance boosts Scizor's Attack to incredible levels, allowing it to hit even harder with its fully invested, item-boosted STAB and coverage moves. Aerial Ace demolishes defensive behemoths such as Pyroak, Mega Venusaur, Arghonaut, and the omnipresent Tomohawk, but it leaves Scizor vulnerable to Steel-types. Acrobatics is an alternate option for Life Orb sets to ensure that Scizor still has strong Flying-type coverage in the event that its Life Orb is removed by Knock Off. Acrobatics still achieves many of the same KOs that Aerial Ace gets, but the power drop is notable against physically defensive Tomohawk, as +2 Acrobatics is not a guaranteed OHKO. Set Details Life Orb, an Adamant nature, and maximum Attack investment are used so that Scizor hits as hard as possible. Maximum Speed investment is preferred on this set so that Scizor can outspeed as many defensive threats as possible, including Rotom-W, Cyclohm, Tomohawk, and Mega Venusaur, as well as Speed tie with opposing Adamant Scizor. Scizorite may be used instead if your team needs a Mega Evolution; the increased bulk and lack of Life Orb recoil ease Mega Scizor's setup, and the higher base Speed allows Mega Scizor to strike bulky Mew with Bug Bite before it can use Will-O-Wisp. It is worth noting that Mega Scizor's damage output is slightly lower than that of Life Orb Scizor. For instance, unboosted Bullet Punch is no longer a guaranteed OHKO on Mega Crucibelle. Technician is the ability of choice for Life Orb sets to boost the power of Bullet Punch, Bug Bite, and Aerial Ace. If opting for Scizorite, Light Metal should be used instead, as Scizor's ability will become Technician upon Mega Evolution anyway, and Light Metal can help base Scizor in a few scenarios, such as switching into Crucibelle's Low Kick. Usage Tips With Scizor's offensive capabilities, it's quite diverse in the ways it can be played, as it can function as a revenge killer, wallbreaker, or even late-game cleaner depending on the situation. A lot of the time, Scizor will be functioning as a fearsome revenge killer with its strong Bullet Punch. When Scizor finds itself up against physically frail foes, such as Mega Gardevoir, Syclant, and Stratagem, that it can force out, you can use the opportunity to set up Swords Dance on the predicted switch and apply heavy pressure to the switch-in. By weakening physically defensive switch-ins such as Cyclohm, Pyroak, and Rotom-W, Scizor can support its offensive teammates that appreciate having these threats weakened or removed. Late-game, Scizor has the potential to clean up offensive teams with +2 Bullet Punch if the appropriate checks, namely faster Pokemon that resist Steel, have been sufficiently weakened or removed first. Scizor is perhaps most effective when played aggressively and by setting up Swords Dance on forced switches; just be especially wary of Pokemon like Clefable and Stratagem that commonly run Fire-type coverage. Team Options Scizor's best partners are Pokemon that appreciate having physical walls heavily weakened or removed. Fast offensive Steel-types such as Mega Metagross, Cawmodore, and Kitsunoh fall into this category, as they share similar checks with Scizor. Serperior also appreciates Scizor's wallbreaking, as it enjoys having Tomohawk and Pyroak weakened before attempting to clean up with Leaf Storm. Heatran is a good teammate for Scizor, as it provides Stealth Rock support, a switch-in to the Fire-type attacks that force Scizor out, and a decent check to Steel-types, which is especially important for Aerial Ace Scizor. Tank Garchomp also provides Stealth Rock support and a check to Heatran and Talonflame. Opposing bulky Ground-types such as Landorus-T and Garchomp are annoying for Scizor to deal with, as they can check it and cause Life Orb recoil and Rocky Helmet damage to pile up on it quickly. Having a strong special attacker such as Syclant or Keldeo to check these Pokemon is important. U-turn is an option in place of Toxic for more offensively oriented teams that helps keep momentum and prevents Mega Scizor from becoming bait to threats such as Ho-Oh. Lastly, Superpower is a coverage option that nails Extreme Killer Arceus and Mega Kangaskhan and can finish some Steel-types such as Ferrothorn. Set Details 248 HP EVs are used to raise Mega Scizor's overall bulk and help with the ability to use Roost. 60 Attack EVs with an Adamant nature guarantee that Mega Scizor can 2HKO 200HP Xerneas. The remaining 200 EVs are allocated into Special Defense to compensate for Mega Scizor's lower special bulk and to grant it the ability to tank Hidden Power Fire from Mega Gengar. Usage Tips Although Hidden Power Fire usage on Xerneas has decreased, it is still a possible danger. This set has no qualms about switching into defensive or Choice Scarf Xerneas sets so long as it doesn't have Hidden Power Fire. However, unlike Xerneas checks such as Klefki, you do not necessarily want to switch Mega Scizor into a Geomancy Xerneas on the turn it sets up. The reason being that although Mega Scizor has priority with Bullet Punch, Xerneas will survive if it is at full health and can proceed to knock out Mega Scizor if it has Hidden Power Fire. An alternative approach is to damage Xerneas enough on its setup turn to where Mega Scizor's Bullet Punch can revenge kill the boosted Xerneas; then either sack your least useful Pokemon to get Mega Scizor in for free or directly switch Mega Scizor into a predicted Moonblast if it has enough HP to survive the attack. Xerneas is not the only Pokemon that runs Fire-type coverage moves because of Mega Scizor; even Pokemon such as Blissey have the potential to hit Mega Scizor as it comes in, so scouting for these type of moves is paramount. Because Mega Scizor is immune to Toxic, it can be used as a pivot against defensive threats such as Lugia and serve as an offensive team's solution to opposing Toxic use. Although Bullet Punch is not very strong and has poor offensive typing, Mega Scizor's access to priory should not be overlooked. Keeping Mega Scizor around to threaten Focus Sash users and fast, frail Pokemon such as Deoxys-A can be of great assistance. Mega Scizor should be kept away from burns at all cost, as it will become significantly more difficult to revenge kill Xerneas; the loss of HP each turn also makes keeping Mega Scizor healthy enough to check intended threats very difficult if not impossible. This set is massive bait to Ho-Oh and Kyogre, therefore Mega Scizor's best option if you foresee these threats coming in is either to U-turn out or slap them with Toxic and switch out, assuming you can afford to give these threats a free turn. Team Options Often a team's greatest weapon against Ho-Oh is Stealth Rock, and because Mega Scizor tends to draw in Ho-Oh, it is best to have a setter of this move that can force Ho-Oh out. Primal Groudon can check both Ho-Oh and Kyogre, which are two of the greatest threats to Mega Scizor, while in return Mega Scizor can check Lugia, Latias, and Latios. Dark-types such as Yveltal, Darkrai, and Arceus-Dark can all be excellent teammates because they annihilate Ghost-types such as Arceus-Ghost and Giratina while they benefit from Mega Scizor's ability to check Fairy-types. Latias and Latios can provide anti-entry hazard support for Mega Scizor while they appreciate Mega Scizor's ability to switch into Fairy-type attacks. Kyogre can crush the Fire-types that give Mega Scizor trouble. Arceus-Rock pairs well with Mega Scizor, as it is one of the best checks to Ho-Oh. Tyranitar can also check Ho-Oh and appreciates Mega Scizor's immunity to Toxic and check to Fairy-types. Palkia can beat several Fire-types and also gives Mega Scizor a switch-in to Kyogre. Lastly, Zekrom can smash Ho-Oh and Kyogre, which are two of the biggest threats to Mega Scizor.

Moves Scizor has fewer options this time around, but it's still great at what it does. Bullet Punch is the go-to attack for Scizor, as it has 90 Base Power after the boosts from STAB and Technician, making it an even stronger priority move than Extreme Speed. Due to its power, even Pokemon that resist Steel-type moves will take a good chunk of damage from it. As Bug Bite, Scizor's Bug-type STAB move of choice, is unavailable this season, Scizor must be content with using X-Scissor. Thanks to its typing, Scizor usually has no issue setting up with Swords Dance, which increases the power of its attacking moves greatly. The boost from Swords Dance can also be used to overcome any drops incurred from opposing Pokemon with Intimidate. For the last slot, Scizor has two good choices: Protect and Roost. Protect, a general VGC move, can be used to keep Scizor out of harm's way while a teammate deals with a certain threat. On the other hand, Roost heals Scizor and prolongs its time on the battlefield. Set Details Scizor has two item options for this set. Considering that the sets for Mega Scizor and standard Scizor are currently identical, you can run Scizorite for the boosts that it provides. If you already have a Mega Evolution on your team, you can opt to run a Lum Berry instead, which can protect Scizor if a burn comes its way. Regular Scizor has good stats, so Mega Evolving it is not a necessity. If you decide to just stick with regular Scizor, it must run Technician as its ability. There is no reason to use either of the other abilities: Swarm is pointless as Bullet Punch is the main attack whereas Light Metal does not help Scizor in any notable way. 252 HP EVs increase Scizor's bulk, allowing it to better tank attacks, while 252 Attack EVs along with and Adamant nature allow Scizor to deal as much damage as possible with its attacking moves. Running Jolly does not allow Scizor to outspeed anything noticeable, and is not worth the decrease in power. Usage Tips Scizor should be used either as a lead or a late-game cleaner. If it is partnered with a Pokemon that can take care of its checks and counters, Scizor can make for a good lead, as it can possibly set up and wreak havoc early on. On the other hand, after the Pokemon that can stop it have been sufficiently weakened or KOed, Scizor can be a great late-game cleaner with its incredibly strong Bullet Punch. Regarding Mega Evolution, there is no reason to wait unless you are attempting to bluff having another Mega Pokemon. Scizor gets some nice boosts from its Mega Evolution and so should be Mega Evolved as soon as possible. Team Options Mega Tyranitar and regular Tyranitar make great teammates for Scizor and Mega Scizor, respectively. The sandstorm Tyranitar summons does not harm Scizor, can help wear down opposing Pokemon, and can be used to win the weather war. Tyranitar can also take care of the Fire-types that threaten Scizor. Water-types pair well with Scizor as they have decent defensive synergy with it. Rotom-W and Scizor cover each other's weaknesses nicely; one can deal with what threatens the other. Politoed makes a good partner as the rain it brings halves the damage done to Scizor by Fire-type moves. Another great partner for Scizor is Chandelure, as it can take care of opposing Steel-types with its Fire-type STAB moves. Also, with Flash Fire, it can discourage the opponent from using Heat Wave, as the move will give Chandelure a free boost to its Fire-type moves. Salamence makes a good teammate for Scizor as well, as it can take care of Steel-type Pokemon with either Flamethrower or Fire Blast. Furthermore, it has Intimidate to help prolong Scizor's time on the field.

Moves Swords Dance boosts Mega Scizor's Attack to insane levels, making it a formidable wallbreaker and sweeper. Bullet Punch is a strong STAB priority move that can hit faster Pokemon, enables Mega Scizor to revenge kill Pokemon throughout the game, and can OHKO many offensive threats after a Swords Dance boost. Superpower has great coverage alongside Bullet Punch, as it hits Steel-type Pokemon like Heatran, Empoleon, and Magnezone super effectively and lands a good neutral hit against other Mega Scizor. Bug Bite is Mega Scizor's strongest STAB move and hits Water-, Psychic- and Dark-type Pokemon hard. It notably lets Mega Scizor muscle past Pokemon like Mandibuzz, Rotom-W, and Slowbro. Knock Off can also be used to get past Doublade while having good general utility in removing items. Set Details 136 Speed EVs lets Mega Scizor outspeed Victini after a V-Create. Light Metal is the preferred pre-Mega Evolution ability to reduce Low Kick damage. Scizorite greatly improves Scizor's bulk and gives it many more opportunities to set up while also boosting its Attack and giving it Technician. Usage Tips As this Mega Scizor set lacks Roost and has no HP investment, it can be easily worn down. Do not recklessly switch into entry hazards or Fighting- and Ground-type moves, as this set is not the most reliable check to them. Try to avoid switching Mega Scizor into a potential burn, as it will be crippled Mega Scizor and prevented from sweeping. It can be very beneficial to preserve Mega Scizor's health for a late-game sweep; however, this set can also be used early- and mid-game to wallbreak. It is a good idea to weaken checks like Rotom-W and Infernape before attempting to set up a Swords Dance. Mega Scizor can sweep Fighting-type teams easily after a Swords Dance boost and with Stealth Rock up. As this Mega Scizor set has maximum Attack investment, its Bullet Punch can be quite strong even without a boost, so it can be used as a revenge killer as well. Team Options This Mega Scizor set works great on more offensive hazard-stacking Steel-type teams; in general, entry hazard support in the form of Stealth Rock and Spikes is extremely appreciated, as they turn many 2HKOs into OHKOs and can wear down common switch-ins. Ferrothorn, Skarmory, and Heatran can all set Stealth Rock, and the former two can also set Spikes. The Custap lead Skarmory set with dual hazards pairs fantastically with Mega Scizor and often finds itself on the same offensive Steel-type teams. Heatran in particular is also an amazing teammate, as it can absorb Fire-type moves for Scizor along with setting up Stealth Rock. Ferrothorn can also deal with Water-type Pokemon, which can prove to be a problem with their Scald burns. Magnezone can trap Skarmory, which can be especially useful if Scizor is not using Superpower. Finally, Choice Scarf Excadrill can easily deal with the Fire- and Electric-type Pokemon that resist Bullet Punch with its Mold Breaker Earthquake and Rock Slide coverage.

Moves Swords Dance boosts Mega Scizor's Attack to high levels, and this set finds many opportunities to set up due to its bulk. Bullet Punch is Mega Scizor's STAB move that hits faster Pokemon, and it can become quite powerful with a few Swords Dance boosts. Roost gives longevity and lets Mega Scizor turn many Pokemon that cannot 2HKO it into setup fodder. Knock Off works well on this set, as it lets Mega Scizor act as a utility Pokemon throughout the game, switching in on Pokemon it checks and knocking off items. In addition, it has great coverage alongside Bullet Punch, hitting most Pokemon at least neutrally. Superpower can be used to hit Steel-types like Heatran, Magnezone, Empoleon, Ferrothorn, and Bisharp, but since this set is slow, it can only hit the former two on a predicted switch in. U-turn and Bug Bite can be used as Bug-type STAB moves, with the former letting Mega Scizor pivot around and weaken its checks so it can sweep with Swords Dance late-game, and the latter providing a stronger option to hit many Pokemon neutrally; however, Steel and Bug together is very mediocre coverage offensively, and Mega Scizor is walled by a plethora of Pokemon when using these moves. Set Details 248 HP and 44 Defense EVs with an Impish nature let Mega Scizor survive two High Jump Kicks from Mega Lopunny, allowing Mega Scizor to effectively check it. They also help Mega Scizor reliably check Ground-type Pokemon like Choice Scarf Landorus-T and Excadrill. The rest of the EVs are dumped into Special Defense, letting Mega Scizor avoid the OHKO from Latios's and Mega Diancie's Hidden Power Fire. Maximum Defense investment is also an option to let Mega Scizor check physical Fighting- and Ground-type Pokemon more effectively. Light Metal is the optimal ability for Scizor to reduce Low Kick damage. Scizorite provides Mega Scizor with Technician and a large boost to its bulk as well as its Attack. This set can be used with more Attack investment if the Mega Lopunny benchmark is not of concern. Usage Tips This set can switch in on many big threats like Mega Lopunny, Landorus-T, Choice Scarf Terrakion, and Choice Scarf Heracross to reliably check them due to Roost. Knock Off is a very spammable move early-game; as Mega Scizor switches in to check Pokemon, use Knock Off to cripple switch-ins and wear down checks. This Mega Scizor set is not very powerful, so be wary of trying to sweep too early, as it needs two or three Swords Dance boosts to do so effectively. Because of this set's considerable bulk and Roost, Mega Scizor can avoid a 2HKO from many Pokemon and use them as setup fodder. Although this set is bulky enough to take on most Water-type Pokemon, be wary of Scald and burns in general, as they cripple Mega Scizor tremendously. Team Options This Mega Scizor set acts as a good glue Pokemon to balanced Steel teams, providing a Fighting- and Ground-type check and a bulky wincon. Heatran is a great teammate, as it can absorb Fire-type moves and set up Stealth Rock. In return, Mega Scizor can take Ground- and Fighting-type moves aimed at Heatran. Ferrothorn is another Stealth Rock setter that can also set up Spikes and deal (keep) with Water-type Pokemon that can (keep) prove to be an annoyance with Scald burns. In the same vein, Empoleon can switch into most Water-type Pokemon and set up Stealth Rock, use Defog, or Roar out Pokemon like Gyarados and Manaphy that try to set up on Mega Scizor. Magnezone can also check Water-type Pokemon and can trap physically defensive Skarmory, which easily walls this set. Choice Scarf Excadrill can check the Fire-type Pokemon that have no trouble with this set, and it also does well against Fire teams in general, where this Mega Scizor is especially deadweight. Doublade and Skarmory can relieve pressure on Mega Scizor by checking Fighting- and Ground-types, respectively.

Moves Roost allows Mega Scizor to keep itself healthy and wall foes. U-turn provides momentum for Mega Scizor's team and brings in frail Pokemon easily. Even without Attack investment, Bullet Punch picks off weakened Pokemon that can be threatening for Mega Scizor's team, such as Terrakion and Mega Diancie. The last slot is dedicated to entry hazard removal and setup; Defog removes all entry hazards, while Sticky Web slows down the opposing team's grounded Pokemon. Mega Scizor can run Superpower so it can KO Bisharp, Excadrill, and various Normal-types quickly. Gear Grind stops Mega Scizor from being complete setup fodder for bulkier foes, as it still hits very hard without any Attack investment. Knock Off and Pursuit are also options to bring more utility to Mega Scizor's team. Set Details Maximized HP and Defense EVs make Mega Scizor insanely physically bulky, avoiding 2HKOs from powerful attacks such as Adamant Landorus-T's Precipice Blades and Dragon Ascent, Adamant Excadrill's Precipice Blades, Jolly Life Orb Mamoswine and Garchomp's Precipice Blades, Adamant Mega Lopunny's High Jump Kick, Jolly Life Orb Terrakion's Close Combat, Adamant Life Orb Azumarill's Crabhammer, and Adamant Mega Tyranitar's Diamond Storm. This allows Mega Scizor to comfortably check or counter these Pokemon, as well as others such as Weavile and Bisharp. Scizorite allows Scizor to Mega Evolve into the much bulkier Mega Scizor, and Light Metal reduces the damage taken from Low Kick by regular Scizor. Usage Tips This Mega Scizor should aim to switch into the many attackers that it walls and keep healthy with Roost. The free turns generated should be used to clear entry hazards, set up Sticky Web, or U-turn out for momentum. Sticky Web should be used as soon as possible to aid the slow Pokemon on Mega Scizor's team. The threat of Bullet Punch is also excellent for generating free turns. Switch Mega Scizor out against powerful special attackers, Pokemon with Fire-type moves, and Pokemon that can set up freely on this set's weak attacks. In particular, scout for Fire-type coverage moves from the above Pokemon, such as Fire Blast from Garchomp and Tyranitar. Team Options This set gives up Mega Scizor's innate sweeping capabilities and uses the team's Mega slot to control entry hazards and wall threats. It fits on balanced and defensive teams that appreciate a Pokemon that can remove or set entry hazards while serving as a solid physical wall. However, offensive teams also appreciate the slow U-turn that Mega Scizor brings, as well as Sticky Web to aid its slower wallbreakers. In general, pairing Mega Scizor with a Fake Out + Extreme Speed user such as Stoutland or Ursaring is helpful, as they can revenge kill the sweepers that set up on this fairly passive set. Pokemon weak to Stealth Rock, such as Thundurus and Tornadus-T, appreciate Mega Scizor's ability to reliably use Defog. Set Details The Speed EVs allow Scizor to outrun defensive Rotom-W and most specially defensive Heatran. Maximum Attack investment with an Adamant nature is a necessity to increase Scizor's power. The remaining EVs are invested in HP, which makes use of Scizor's decent bulk, pivoting capabilities, and access to Pursuit. A simple EV spread of 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SpD can also be used for more bulk, which makes Scizor a more reliable Pursuit trapper and pivot, but it misses out on outspeeding defensive targets. Technician is the necessary ability, as it boosts the power of Pursuit if the foe doesn't switch out, Gear Grind, and Bullet Punch. Usage Tips This Scizor cannot set up, but it makes up for it with its monstrous initial power and ability to pivot and scout. U-turn should be the move of choice early-game, as it provides momentum and scouts the opponent's default response to Scizor. Gear Grind should be used when to weaken the opponent's team, as it heavily dents all Pokemon that do not resist it. Use Superpower to hit Steel-types, but be wary of King's Shield. Scout for Fire-type coverage moves as well as Will-O-Wisp when Scizor is trying to Pursuit trap a foe. Bullet Punch should be used to revenge kill threats, as well as clean up weakened teams. However, be aware that the move lock from Choice Band means the opponent can often set up on Scizor. These two Pokemon take little damage from Fire-type attacks aimed at Scizor and can threaten Skarmory with Blue Flare and Fire Blast, respectively. Rapid Spin support is appreciated so Scizor is not worn down quickly. It can be provided by Starmie and Excadrill, which hit Fire-types hard with their STAB attacks, or Normal-types such as Meloetta and Mega Lopunny. These Normal-types can also run Fake Out + Extreme Speed to revenge kill sweepers that set up on a Choice-locked Scizor.

Moves Shift Gear and Roost allow Mega Scizor to boost its Attack and Speed while remaining healthy throughout the whole battle. Gear Grind is Mega Scizor's main attack, and the boosts from STAB and Technician make it very strong. Knock Off has decent coverage and provides utility by removing items such as Heatran's Leftovers, Skarmory's Shed Shell, and Porygon2's Eviolite. Pin Missile hits Pokemon that resist Steel such as Rotom-W, Mega Slowbro, and Ferrothorn, but its coverage is very limited. Set Details With maximum HP investment and 200 Special Defense EVs, Mega Scizor avoids the OHKO from Mega Diancie's Hidden Power Fire and the 2HKO from Mega Gardevoir's Focus Blast, both after Stealth Rock. The remaining 60 EVs are invested into Defense, which allows Mega Scizor to never be 2HKOed by Jolly Landorus-T's Precipice Blades or Dragon Ascent when used in conjunction with an Impish nature. A simple 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD EV spread is also an option, as Mega Scizor becomes capable of evading 2HKOs from powerful physical attacks such as Adamant Mega Lopunny's High Jump Kick and Life Orb Terrakion's Close Combat. Scizorite drastically boosts Scizor's defenses, and Light Metal allows regular Scizor to take less Low Kick damage from Pokemon such as Weavile. Usage Tips This Mega Scizor shouldn't aim to set up and sweep early-game while the opponent's team is still healthy. Instead, it should pivot into the attackers that it walls, such as Tyranitar and Landorus-T, and use Knock Off and its STAB attacks to weaken the opposing team while remaining healthy with Roost. Keep this set away from crippling burns and paralysis, as well as powerful special attacks, especially Fire-type ones. When the opponent's team is weakened in the late-game, set up on a Pokemon that cannot deal significant damage to Mega Scizor, such as Tyranitar or defensive Landorus-T. Thanks to its excellent bulk, this Mega Scizor set can grab multiple boosts in front of these Pokemon. Team Options This Mega Scizor variant is a good choice for balance teams that enjoy the presence of a reliable sweeper that can provide defensive synergy thanks to its access to recovery. Generally, it needs help from teammates to break through its checks and counters. Water-types deal with Fire-types such as Heatran, and some of them can also handle Keldeo. Slowbro can handle non-Choice Specs Keldeo while slowing down threats with Thunder Wave, while Rotom-W can also paralyze with Nuzzle and pivot with Volt Switch. Latios and Latias are capable of handling Keldeo and Fire-types, especially if they run Surf, and provide Defog and Lunar Dance support. Kyurem-B has excellent offensive synergy with Mega Scizor, as it can heavily damage Skarmory with Fusion Bolt and freely set up on Rotom-W with Substitute + Dragon Dance.
