While Mew is able to soft check physical attackers such as Mega Garchomp, Excadrill, and Hawlucha, it's quite easily overwhelmed and appreciates having teammates to form a defensive backbone with it; Toxapex, Gliscor, and Corviknight are able to help relieve some pressure for Mew. Additionally, these cores appreciate Mew's ability to consistently handle Mega Medicham for them. Dark-types like Ash-Greninja, Mega Tyranitar, and Hydreigon can threaten Mew if it doesnt have a Colbur Berry, so having Dark-resistant Pokemon that can switch into Dark-type moves like Tapu Koko, Kommo-o, and Clefable as teammates helps Mew a lot. However, these Dark-types must be wary of Will-O-Wisp and the rare Body Press. Lastly, Knock Off users such as Tangrowth, Toxapex, Weavile, Mega Scizor, and Zeraora are able to remove foes' Heavy-Duty Boots, making Mew's Spikes matter a lot more in the longterm.

Mew is also vulnerable to opposing pivots like Barraskewda and Cinderace, as they deny it a chance to recover by switching to some foe that forces Mew out; Regenerator Kommo-o effectively checks most common pivoting wallbreakers. If forgoing Heavy-Duty Boots, Mew requires reliable entry hazard support from Corviknight or Tapu Fini to avoid being 2HKOed as it switches in. Since Mew relies on Will-O-Wisp to neutralize physical attackers, it can struggle against Cinderace, Entei, and a well-played Talonflame; a reliable secondary answer to these threats like Primordial Sea Zapdos is encouraged. Since Mew cannot do meaningful damage to special attackers, reliable special walls like Blissey and RegenVest Jirachi make great teammates.

Frail attackers that have a hard time getting in like Barraskewda, Azelf, and Tapu Lele appreciate Mew getting them in safely with a slow pivot. Strong Defoggers like Corviknight and Tapu Fini are recommended to ease Mew's pivoting. Mew is also worse at checking Fire-types due to their immunity to Will-O-Wisp; Primordial Sea Zapdos makes a great partner to cover that weakness. Mew is also unable to check strong Dark- and Ghost-types like Zarude and Dhelmise, so partners like Corviknight that can switch into those are helpful.

Since Mew is efficient at pivoting, it pairs well with powerful wallbreakers like Tapu Lele and Terrakion, which enjoy the free turns it generates. Mew does struggle to check Fire-types, as they are immune to Will-O-Wisp and are often immune to Flip Turn with Desolate Land, so strong answers to them like Primordial Sea Zapdos make great partners. Mew can also be overwhelmed by repeated strong attacks, since it is reliant on Regenerator to recover, so other bulky switch-ins like Tapu Fini and Jirachi make good partners as well.

Against bulkier foes like Empoleon, Suicune, and Gligar, removing their items can be key, as the former two are reliant on Leftovers as their only form of recovery, while Gligar needs its Eviolite to check the foes it wants to. Mew should be careful when using Knock Off as its primary move, however, as unlike Seismic Toss, it could give foes such as Lucario, Cobalion, and Terrakion a Justified boost if it's spammed, which is very problematic if Mew lacks Will-O-Wisp. Mew can attempt to soft check threats like Cobalion and Mega Aerodactyl by weakening them with Will-O-Wisp and safely recovering any lost health the following turn. Mew can also use Will-O-Wisp to beat Stealth Rock Krookodile at the expense of its Leftovers; however, without Colbur Berry, it struggles to deal with Choice Scarf variants of Krookodile, which can revenge kill Mew with Knock Off or Crunch. Mew should be wary of spamming its status moves too much, as that can boost Mega Altaria's Facade, which allows it to break past Mew without a Dragon Dance boost. If Mew is carrying Toxic, it should prioritize crippling the likes of Hydreigon and Kyurem; however, it should attempt to hit the former on the switch, as it threatens to 2HKO Mew with Dark Pulse otherwise. While Synchronize can give Mew ways to punish status users, it should be careful to avoid Toxic and Thunder Wave nonetheless. Toxic severely hinders its ability to beat the aforementioned bulkier Pokemon with Taunt because Mew will eventually be forced to switch out, which creates opportunities for them to recover any lost health once Taunt wears off. Team Options Mew fits best on bulky offense and balance teams that appreciate the stallbreaking and defensive capabilities it can provide. Fairy-types like Mega Altaria and Togekiss make for great partners for Mew, as they can check Hydreigon and Choice Scarf Krookodile and provide strong wallbreaking capabilities that can support Mew in pressuring bulkier teams. Mega Altaria's access to Refresh also allows it to absorb status moves such as Toxic for Mew, while Togekiss has access to Heal Bell to cure Mew of status ailments. Entry hazard setters like Rhyperior, Nidoqueen, and Cobalion appreciate Mew's ability to keep their hazards up with Taunt. Cobalion in particular appreciates Mew pressuring bulkier foes like Quagsire, Gligar, and Pyukumuku that it struggles to break, and in return, it can check Hydreigon and Scizor for Mew. Nidoqueen also has the added benefit of being able to set up Toxic Spikes, which helps Mew break through bulkier Pokemon like Blissey in tandem with Taunt. Pokemon that struggle to break through bulky Pokemon like Hippowdon, Blissey, and Mega Aggron appreciate Mew's ability to cripple and beat them, so Mega Manectric, Mega Aerodactyl, and Primarina pair well with Mew. Empoleon, Tentacruel, Moltres, and Rotom-Heat can help Mew by removing entry hazards like Toxic Spikes, which Mew is susceptible to. Tentacruel also appreciates Mew keeping its Toxic Spikes up, while the latter two enjoy Mew preventing Stealth Rock from being set up easily. Stealth Rock is an alternative option if no other teammate has the move, as in conjunction with Taunt, Mew has an easy time keeping its entry hazard up against most of the tier's Defog users such as Empoleon and Gligar. Taunt also allows Mew to prevent bulkier Pokemon like Hippowdon and Blissey from using their recovery moves to keep them chipped down for its teammates, as well as stop them from setting up their own entry hazards. Taunt is also important for preventing some sweepers like Mega Altaria, Lucario, and Togekiss from using Mew as a free setup opportunity due to its inability to threaten them. Soft-Boiled provides Mew with reliable recovery to let it keep switching in to remove or set entry hazards. Usage Tips Mew should focus on setting or removing entry hazards due to its great matchup against common users of Stealth Rock and Defog, being able to switch into foes like Empoleon and Hippowdon and use Taunt to keep its own entry hazards up reliably or keep opposing ones off the field. When using Seismic Toss, Mew is also capable of beating these Pokemon one-on-one. Taunt is also a great utility tool to stop bulkier foes like Blissey and Pyukumuku from using their recovery moves and completely shut down the latter. Aggressively pivoting Mew into other entry hazard users like Tentacruel and Empoleon is an option to potentially reflect a Scald burn against them with Synchronize so that Mew can whittle them down more easily. However, Mew must be careful of losing its item to Knock Off or potentially being crippled by Toxic from Empoleon on the switch, so unless a teammate has Heal Bell, Mew might need to find another opportunity later to remove their entry hazards. Mew shouldn't attempt to check the tier's many Fighting-types, as its lack of a status move to cripple Cobalion and Terrakion leaves it as setup bait for them, especially if it's carrying Knock Off, which can give them a Justified boost. Mew struggles to deal with offensive Stealth Rock users in Krookodile and Cobalion, as the former is capable of 2HKOing it, while the latter can set up a Swords Dance boost to break past Mew and force it out with relative ease, allowing them both to keep their entry hazards up against it. In this scenario, it is best for Mew to whittle them down with Seismic Toss as they switch in or double switch to a partner capable of removing them and find an opportunity to use Defog later. If Mew has already set up or removed entry hazards, prioritize using Knock Off on the switches it can force to cripple pivots like Empoleon and Suicune that are dependent on their items for passive recovery. Mew also struggles to deal with most Dark- and Ghost-types. Hydreigon in particular is capable of shrugging off everything Mew can throw at it and can reliably remove Mew's entry hazards with Defog, while others like Krookodile and Bisharp can proceed to Pursuit trap it. Similarly, foes like Gengar, Doublade, and Mimikyu are able to simply wall Mew if it lacks Knock Off and set up a Substitute or Swords Dance. Therefore, when facing foes like these, Mew should consider prioritizing double switching instead of using Stealth Rock or Defog, especially against these Ghost-types, in order to not give up momentum. Team Options Mew fits best on bulky offensive and balanced teams that appreciate its ability to beat common entry hazard users and compress the ability to both set and remove entry hazards depending on the role it needs to fulfill. Pokemon capable of checking Dark-types like Hydreigon and Krookodile make for essential partners for Mew, so Fairy-types like Mega Altaria, Diancie, Togekiss, and defensive Primarina are great options. Coincidentally, all of them are also able to support Mew by absorbing status moves like Toxic that severely cripple it in its role as a Defog or Stealth Rock user through means like Heal Bell, Rest, and Refresh. Klefki is another option; however, it should only be partnered with Mew if Mew is carrying Stealth Rock so that Mew does not remove the Spikes it is capable of setting. Cobalion makes a great core with Mew, as it can also check Hydreigon and some variants of Krookodile but, unlike the prominent Fairy-types, is able to pivot into Bisharp, which can take advantage of Defog to gain a Defiant boost. Cobalion is also able to check non-Superpower Scizor for Mew and punish U-turn users with Rocky Helmet, a move that Mew provides a free opportunity for Scizor to use. Cobalion can also set up Stealth Rock, which frees up the option for Mew to run its preferred utility move in Defog. Other Pokemon capable of taking on Scizor such as Rotom-Heat, Moltres, and Suicune make for great partners for Mew. The former two also greatly appreciate Mew's ability to alleviate their Stealth Rock weakness while Rotom-Heat in particular enjoys having a free moveslot opened up to run Pain Split. Checks to powerful Fighting-types such as Terrakion, Cobalion, and Infernape are essential, such as Gligar, Moltres, and Mega Altaria; as even with a resistance to their Fighting-type STAB attacks, Mew is too easily overwhelmed due to the passivity of its set, especially when carrying Knock Off. Poison-types like Nidoqueen, Amoonguss, and Tentacruel can absorb Toxic Spikes for Mew, which would otherwise hinder its ability to remove or set entry hazards consistently. They are also able to check powerful threats like Mega Altaria and some of the aforementioned Fighting-types that use Mew as a setup opportunity. Strong wallbreakers like Terrakion, Primarina, Kyurem, and Infernape can make up for Mew's passivity while also appreciating Mew's ability to greatly weaken bulky walls like Hippowdon, Blissey, and Quagsire for them. Kyurem, in particular, enjoys having more opportunities to switch in with Mew removing Stealth Rock, and in return, it can remove Stealth Rock Krookodile. Checks to Ghost-types like Mimikyu, Doublade, and Gengar are very important, so Pokemon like Hydreigon, Krookodile, and Mega Steelix are essential. Pursuit users are also able to capitalize on Mew inviting in Ghost-types, so Choice Band Scizor, Assault Vest Bisharp, and Mega Aerodactyl make for exceptional partners. Krookodile can fulfill the role of a Pursuit user, but it can also support Mew as an offensive Stealth Rock setter that can pressure bulkier teams with Taunt and Knock Off to alleviate pressure off Mew. These Pursuit users also help remove threats like Celebi and Latias, which use Mew as setup bait. Steel-types like Mega Aggron and Doublade are able to check the likes of Latias and Celebi that set up on Mew, while Doublade can also switch into Terrakion and Cobalion for it. Mega Aggron also appreciates Mew's ability to keep its entry hazard up against common Defog users like Gligar and Rotom-Heat that it otherwise loses to.

Set Information Scald is the best attack for this set, having high PP, no immunities, and the chance to burn physical threats that may otherwise give it trouble. Calm Mind bolsters Mew's offensive and defensive presence, allowing it to deal better with strong special attackers such as Gengar and Mega Alakazam that may otherwise give it trouble. Taunt prevents Mew from being disrupted by status such as Toxic poison and paralysis from slower foes, both of which can ruin this set's effectiveness, while Roost provides vital longevity. A Timid nature is recommended, allowing Mew to outspeed and Taunt as many Pokemon as possible in order to avoid having its sweep ended by Toxic. Usage Tips If your opponent has an Alolan Muk, attempting to get a Scald burn on it early in the game is advised. Be careful to not let it land a Toxic on Mew unless you have Eevee-S for support, as this will completely shut it down for the rest of the match. If you expect a slower opponent to try and inflict a harmful status on Mew or use their own setup, use Taunt to prevent it. Due to Mew's bulk, this is entirely safe against many Pokemon. When in a position where Mew can't be immediately 2HKOed or statused, you can start to set up Calm Mind. Use Roost when necessary. Once you've set up enough, start attacking. If the opponent has a defensive pivot Mew or a standard Mega Charizard X, try to bait them into burning your Mew—being burned is good for any Mew set, as it prevents Toxic, but especially for this one. Team Options Nidoqueen and Nidoking make great partners for this Mew set thanks to their Toxic immunity and positive matchup versus Alolan Muk. Eevee-S provides much appreciated cleric support to enable more reckless play. Mega Aerodactyl's ability to offensively check Mega Beedrill is appreciated by this set as much as any other.

Set Information Psychic and Thunderbolt are usually the best options for this set's attacks, providing strong unresisted coverage among common Pokemon other than the frail Alolan Dugtrio. Fire Blast gives Mew a better matchup versus Alolan Dugtrio, Melmetal, and Alolan Sandslash as well as providing unresisted coverage for niche options like Exeggutor and Magneton, but it comes at the expense of either coverage for Mega Gyarados and Starmie or longevity in Roost. Nasty Plot allows Mew to quickly boost its damage output to very threatening levels. Roost makes setting up versus weaker attackers a safe option. A Timid nature is heavily recommended, giving Mew better odds of victory versus Pokemon with base 100 Speed. Modest's damage increase doesn't change many matchups enough to be worthwhile. Usage Tips Mew should ideally be kept healthy until opposing special tanks are weakened and potential revenge killers are either knocked out or paralyzed; it can win quite easily in such a scenario. Bring Mew in versus a Pokemon that it can force out, such as Venusaur or Poliwrath. You can also bluff a Will-O-Wisp in order to get more setup opportunities. Use this first turn to set up. If your Mew is still healthy and is pressured to either switch or be knocked out, don't be afraid to preserve it; Mew's bulk means it can set up multiple times in some games. This set isn't as negatively affected by Toxic as other Mew sets, as Pokemon that rely on Toxic to damage Mew may give it multiple setup opportunities and as a result the potential to knock out several Pokemon before fainting. Team Options Nidoqueen is an especially effective partner for Nasty Plot Mew, as Stealth Rock damage paired with Super Fang puts many bulky Pokemon in range of boosted attacks. It also checks Alolan Muk and Chansey quite effectively. Electrode provides extremely useful support by threatening paralysis on Pokemon that outspeed Mew and bolstering Mew's bulk to ridiculous levels with dual screens. Thunder Wave Melmetal provides further paralysis support while also checking Mega Aerodactyl and Mega Beedrill, two Pokemon that can revenge kill Nasty Plot Mew. Mega Aerodactyl provides an offensive check to Mega Beedrill while also appreciating Mew's ability to break holes in the opponent's team earlier in the game itself.

Stealth Rock is provides invaluable support for this set's teammates. U-turn allows this set to act as a pivot, which helps combat its relative passivity, while Taunt shuts down other Stealth Rock leads such as Nidoqueen as well as miscellaneous Toxic users. Roost keeps Mew healthy throughout the match, allowing it to check threats such as Mega Aerodactyl despite its set being focused on setting Stealth Rock. A Timid nature allows Mew to set up Stealth Rock before being attacked by as many Pokemon as possible, making it optimal for this set. Usage Tips This set is usually most effective as a lead; nothing can reliably OHKO Mew, and it has a solid Speed tier, so it almost always gets to set up Stealth Rock. Your priority should usually be setting up Stealth Rock. However, if an opportunity to gain a significant advantage appears, such as being able to OHKO Rhydon, you should consider taking it first. Try not to entirely sacrifice Mew if possible, as there's a good chance it could be useful later in the game as a defensive measure. Team Options Pairing another Pokemon that is often used to set up Stealth Rock with this Mew helps to make the set less obvious, decreasing the chance of the opponent expecting a Mew lead and responding accordingly. Alolan Dugtrio, Nidoking, and Nidoqueen are especially good options thanks to their decent Speed and positive matchups versus Alolan Muk. Fast offensive Mega Evolutions that come in often throughout a game, most notably Mega Beedrill, are especially good partners for a reliable Stealth Rock setter, as they enjoy having their answers being further worn down. Mega Beedrill's ability to help respond to opposing Gengar is notable, as experienced players may be aware that Gengar can switch in on Mew's Scald and force a bad situation.

Will-O-Wisp is great for allowing Mew to easily deal with most physical attacks, while Flamethrower gives Mew a good way to immediately threaten Melmetal for teams especially vulnerable to it. Roost is key to the set's survivability, allowing Mew to be used liberally throughout the match and wall out many threatening Pokemon. U-turn allows Mew to gain momentum, either to escape an unfavorable matchup or to give the user better offensive pressure versus the opposing Pokemon. Taunt allows Mew to protect itself from common counterplay in Toxic at the cost of U-turn's momentum. A Timid nature allows Mew to act first and therefore safely heal, pivot or use Will-O-Wisp in more matchups, while Bold sacrifices a few of those matchups for a better defensive presence that allows it to more safely deal with threats such as Melmetal. Usage Tips Mew should generally be brought in versus Pokemon that either are unable to deal significant damage to it or are weak to Psychic. Once it's in, you can use Psychic to put on immediate pressure, burn the opponent if they are a physical attacker that may be problematic for your team, heal Mew if it is safe and necessary to do so, or use U-turn if you expect a switch to something that can deal with Mew. Mew can be used for checking many offensive threats that can't hit it with a super effective STAB attack in a pinch, such as Mega Aerodactyl, Dragonite, Rhydon and Starmie. It can also be used to threaten a burn on Melmetal, but it will take a lot of damage in the process. Always make sure to keep Mew healthy enough to deal with key threats that the rest of your team might struggle with. Trying to avoid getting statused helps greatly with this. Team Options While this set fits on almost any team composition and as a result works well with most things, there are a few Pokemon that synergize especially well with Mew. Zapdos appreciates Mew's ability to check and threaten Alolan Dugtrio, Nidoqueen, Nidoking, and Rhydon and completes an effective U-turn core. Melmetal benefits from Mew's ability to take Fighting-, Fire-, and Ground-type attacks and the safe switches U-turn provides while itself providing a useful Toxic immunity. Alolan Muk provides a great response to Mega Alakazam, which otherwise gives Mew a lot of trouble, and also provides a Toxic immunity.

Moves Psychic is easily Mew's most spammable attack, being its strongest and most reliable STAB move. It also allows Mew to fire off its powerful Genesis Supernova, nuking most threats that don't resist it while summoning Psychic Terrain. Nasty Plot boosts Mew's Special Attack to massive levels and allows it to wallbreak effectively, notably dealing with common defensive threats such as Porygon2. Rock Polish doubles Mew's Speed, allowing it to become a dangerous sweeper and outspeed the majority of the metagame after a single boost. This goes hand in hand with Nasty Plot to turn Mew into an incredible offensive Pokemon. Focus Blast offers great neutral coverage and is used to hit opposing Dark- and Steel-types such as Tyranitar and Heatran, though it can be rather unreliable due to its low accuracy. Set Details 252 EVs in Speed alongside a Timid nature give Mew as much initial Speed as possible before boosting in order to outpace key Pokemon, such as Landorus-T and Hydreigon, maximizing its capability as an offensive sweeper. The rest is dumped into its Special Attack to maximize its power. Synchronize is Mew's only ability and is useful for discouraging status spreaders such as Mantine from poisoning it with Toxic. Mewnium Z is required in order to give Mew access to Genesis Supernova. Usage Tips Prioritize using Nasty Plot first against more defensive teams that lack revenge killers that can KO Mew. Rock Polish should be used against more offensive teams late-game as a cleaner in tandem with Genesis Supernova. However, it is very important to be wary of Dark-types while using Genesis Supernova, as they can easily waste its Z-Move by switching in on it. Despite Synchronize punishing opposing Pokemon attempting to spread status, it is still important to avoid status altogether, as poison will quickly wear it down, while being paralyzed will severely limit its effectiveness offensively. In a similar notion, do not allow Mew to take any unnecessary damage by switching it into opposing attacks as well as entry hazard damage, as this set has no way to recover its HP. It is a good idea to not reveal Mew's set early in the game in certain matchups such as Flying, as walls like Celesteela will fear the possibility of a utility set with Taunt. This gives it more leverage late-game when deciding to set up with Nasty Plot and Rock Polish. Similarly, Mew can force out many physical attackers such as Bisharp by bluffing Will-O-Wisp, though this can be rather risky and prediction-dependent. Team Options Due to the nature of this set, Mew appreciates offensive teammates able to capitalize on its wallbreaking and sweeping ability. Deoxys-S is a terrific teammate for Mew, being able to offer entry hazard support in tandem with Taunt to stop opposing entry hazard removers and leads. It also provides dual screens support, amplifying Mew's bulk and allowing it to remain on the field for a long time. Victini is a great offensive team option by virtue of its typing and ability to function as a strong wallbreaker with Choice Band and a way to keep faster foes in check with Choice Scarf. It can also take out threats such as Scizor and Celesteela thanks to its useful Fire typing. Mega Gallade forms a deadly wallbreaking core with Mew, pressuring defensive teams while dealing with special walls such as Chansey thanks to its massive physical power. Alakazam is an amazing blanket check to many dangerous Pokemon such as Mega Sharpedo thanks to the combination of Counter and Magic Guard. Mew, on the other hand, swiftly deals with more defensive Pokemon such as Zapdos for it. Latios is a good teammate, as it can pressure many Pokemon that threaten Mew such as Mega Sableye thanks to its strong Dragon-type STAB moves and can remove entry hazards with Defog. Mega Latias brings utility as a secondary setup threat with Stored Power and Calm Mind, being able to steamroll past teams that lack answers to it such as Water. Choice Band Metagross can trap Pokemon such as Latios with Pursuit and has the immediate power to threaten defensive checks to Mew such as Chansey. Lastly, Jirachi provides Stealth Rock support for Mew while also giving it many opportunities to safely come in due to its access to U-turn.

Moves Knock Off is essential, as it is Mew's only attacking move and removes the foe's item, most notably Eviolite and Leftovers from defensive Pokemon such as Chansey and Skarmory as well as items such as Choice Specs from Tapu Koko and Life Orb from Landorus. Will-O-Wisp cripples physical attackers such as Bisharp by halving their Attack stat and goes very well with Mew's good mixed bulk. It also chips down opposing walls in combination with Knock Off removing Leftovers. Taunt allows Mew to shut down opposing walls such as Mantine by preventing them from recovering HP or afflicting them with status conditions, helping Mew fulfill its role as a stallbreaker. Roost provides Mew with much-needed reliable recovery, allowing it to remain in the game for longer and wall opposing Pokemon far more easily. Set Details The given EV spread allows Mew to outspeed very important Pokemon such as Bisharp and Adamant Diggersby, allowing it to check these Pokemon while also outspeeding the majority of defensive Pokemon. 252 EVs are put into HP and the rest are placed into Special Defense alongside a Careful nature in order to maximize its special bulk while still enabling it to check various physical attackers with Will-O-Wisp. Leftovers is the preferred item on this set, as it gives Mew passive recovery, allowing it to remain on the field longer. Synchronize is Mew's only ability and allows it to discourage opposing Toxic users like Mantine and Gastrodon from afflicting it. Usage Tips This Mew set focuses on checking various offensive Pokemon with Will-O-Wisp and its invested special bulk. Use Will-O-Wisp after bringing Mew out safely against offensive Pokemon such as Bisharp and Tapu Bulu in order to cripple them for the remainder of the game. However, switching Mew in against physical attackers outright is often a bad idea, as it usually depends on surviving a strong attack in order to burn the foe. Mew's invested special bulk is great and allows it to safely check special attackers such as Latios. Also, Mew's multiple methods of recovery and good mixed bulk allow the player to play liberally with it, as it will usually be able to consistently check opposing offensive Pokemon due to its longevity. Use Taunt when faced against walls that can otherwise shut Mew down, such as Chansey, as well as Pokemon attempting to clear hazards with Defog, such as Mantine. Knock Off should be used often in order to reliably remove opposing items, preventing walls from recovering HP as well as weakening offensive Pokemon by removing items such as Life Orb. The passive nature of this set means Mew may have trouble checking certain opposing Pokemon that it cannot cripple with its other moves such as Volcarona and Mega Charizard Y. In return, Mew can stomach special attacks for Slowbro due to its great invested bulk. Jirachi's fantastic typing and ability to provide much-needed entry hazard support make it a superb teammate for Mew. It can additionally give Mew safe opportunities to come in on the field thanks to its rather slow U-turn. Victini provides an offensive option able to take care of faster foes and wallbreak simultaneously with the combination of Choice Scarf and powerful moves like V-create and Bolt Strike, beating Pokemon such as Mega Scizor and Mantine for Mew. Choice Band Victini also threatens defensive teams immensely with stallbreaking support from Mew. Latios and Latias are both good teammates for Mew, as they can clear hazards for Mew with Defog and check dangerous offensive Pokemon such as Mega Charizard Y. Latias additionally offers Healing Wish support, giving Mew another potential form of recovery. Mega Latias appreciates Mew's superior bulk and ability to cripple physical attackers with Will-O-Wisp, creating opportunities for a Calm Mind sweep. Additionally, its typing allows it to take on common metagame threats such as Tapu Bulu and Landorus, which Mew often struggles with. Mega Slowbro's incredible physical bulk also makes it a great Calm Mind sweeper that appreciates Mew's specially defensive support, dealing with many Electric- and Grass-types such as Zapdos and Cradily for Mega Slowbro. Mega Gallade is a threatening physical wallbreaker that can take care of many opposing Dark-types, such as Alolan Muk, and appreciates Mew's ability to Taunt opposing Pokemon and prevent their recovery. Alakazam can check certain physical attackers that trouble Mew such as Mega Sharpedo thanks to its access to Counter and Magic Guard. Celebi is a decent teammate for Mew, as it can check problematic Ground- and Water-types such as Gastrodon and Mantine, easing Mew's defensive load and providing a setup sweeper for the team.

Moves Fake Out is a great move in Doubles, as it can stop a foe from moving for a turn, which provides Mew and its partner with the ability to avoid damage from the target for that turn. Ice Beam is Mew's most reliable coverage move, as it covers Ground-types like Landorus-T and Zygarde as well as Grass-types like Tapu Bulu. Stealth Rock supports the team by punishing the opponent more for switching, especially into Pokemon that would like to switch into Mew, such as Incineroar and Kyurem-B. Tailwind speeds up your side of the field for a time, allowing your team to swing the momentum by outspeeding the opposing Pokemon. U-turn is a solid option that allows Mew to pivot out into a partner, which can be useful because Mew needs to leave the field after its support is given. Transform is a unique option that allows Mew to take the form of any other Pokemon on the field; this can be used to take advantage of both allies and foes that have used setup moves. It's important to remember when picking Mew's four moves that almost none of them are "mandatory"—many of the moves suggested on this set can go in any slot, and Mew's set should be tailored to fit the team it is placed on. Set Details The given EVs in Speed allow Mew to outspeed all Kommo-o variants. The EVs placed into HP and the two defensive stats allow Mew to survive either a Bloom Doom from Kartana or a Gigavolt Havoc from Tapu Koko in Electric Terrain. The remaining EVs are placed into Special Attack in order to boost the power of Ice Beam. Wiki Berry provides recovery and is the pinch Berry of choice to confuse opposing Adamant natured Pokemon that might steal the Berry, such as Mega Scizor. Usage Tips Mew is a very solid lead, as it can set either Stealth Rock or Tailwind, and even if Mew isn't carrying Fake Out, the opponent has to respect the possibility on Turn 1. It can be vitally important to keep Mew healthy into the late-game if it is the team's primary means of setting speed control. If there are other reliable sources of speed control, Mew can be sacrificed in order to get a more powerful offensive Pokemon on the field. U-turn allows Mew to get off the field in a way that can provide more momentum than a hard switch. U-turn is used often because once speed control has been set and there isn't much more for Mew to do, it needs to be replaced by another teammate that can actually provide offensive pressure. Transform can be useful both offensively and defensively to become a copy of either an ally or a foe that has boosted its stats. It can also be useful to transform into a more offensive threat once Mew's utility is used up. Team Options Mew is used best when supporting offensive Pokemon like Zygarde and Kartana. Mew is unique in that it can provide speed control, pivoting, and entry hazards all in one slot. This role compression really benefits its teammates by putting them in a better position to defeat opposing Pokemon. Most of Mew's teammates need to be offensive, benefit from the support Mew provides in some way, or both, as Mew provides very little offense, so the rest of the team composition will need to be more offensive. Mew needs teammates that can damage Steel-types like Mega Metagross and Genesect. Incineroar and Volcanion are good Fire-types that fill this role. Mew is walled by the very common Incineroar, so teammates like Landorus-T and Zygarde help Mew a lot with that matchup. Tapu Fini can usually sit in front of Mew and punish its lack of offense with Calm Mind, though it has to be wary of Transform. Checks to Tapu Fini include Tapu Koko and Tapu Bulu.

Moves Fake Out gives Mew's partner more freedom to set up or attack by stopping a foe from moving altogether, possibly delaying it from setting up. Transform lets Mew turn into any Pokemon on the field, letting it have presence outside of being a mere supporter; it can also copy stat changes, allowing Mew to stack pressure on the opposing team by using Transform on a boosted partner, such as +6 Azumarill or +2 Mega Kangaskhan. Will-O-Wisp lets Mew cripple opposing physical attackers, lowering their damage output to give teammates opportunities to set up as well as dealing chip damage. Tailwind provides Mew and its team with the Speed advantage, letting them outrun and possibly KO foes they couldn't otherwise. Protect lets Mew stall out field conditions, scout attacks, and shield itself from damage while a partner takes out a particular threat. Set Details Both of Mew's items aim to prolong its longevity by providing it with recovery; Sitrus Berry is preferred, as the instant recovery is better in the fast-paced DOU metagame, but Leftovers can also be useful by providing continuous incremental recovery. The Speed investment with a Jolly nature lets Mew outrun as many foes as it can without lowering the negligible damage output of Fake Out. The rest of the EVs are invested in HP to maximize its bulk—HP EVs are also the only EVs that carry over after using Transform. 30 Attack and Defense IVs can be used in order to get Hidden Power Ice when using Transform on a Pokemon that runs it, such as Thundurus. Usage Tips Mew's biggest concern once it's on the field is supporting its teammates. Fake Out lets Mew delay foes, hindering their plans as well as giving its teammates opportunities to set up. When Mew's teammates lack the Speed advantage, Mew can use Tailwind to give it to them. Similarly, Mew can use Will-O-Wisp to lower the offensive presence of opposing physical attackers, letting its teammates set up more easily. Once a partner has already set up, for example a +6 Azumarill after setting up with Belly Drum, Mew can Transform into it, giving its side two boosted threats that apply intense pressure to their foes. As Transform goes through Protect, a partner can shield itself from any harm with Protect while Mew uses Transform in order to avoid any unnecessary damage. Mew can also Transform into a foe, letting it take advantage of any utilities they might have such as Intimidate, redirection, and Helping Hand; Mew can also take advantage of matchups this way. Transforming into Amoonguss can also prove to be beneficial in order to provide redirection support while also getting recovery from Regenerator. Team Options Pokemon that appreciate the support that Mew brings to help them set up make for good partners. Teammates that can set up are highly recommended, as Mew can Transform into them and give its side two boosted threats; both Azumarill and Mega Kangaskhan appreciate the support that Mew brings and can set up with Belly Drum and Power-Up Punch, respectively. Mega Diancie beats Thundurus, which could otherwise Taunt Mew and render it useless; its ability to send back Taunt with Magic Bounce is also a huge boon. Teammates that can take out opposing Dark-types and Aegislash make for good teammates; Fighting- and Fairy-types such as Keldeo, Azumarill, and Sylveon can take out opposing Dark-types with ease, and Dark- and Fire-types such as Hydreigon and Heatran, as well as Landorus-T, make short work of Aegislash. Redirectors, such as Togekiss, Amoonguss, and Jirachi, can be useful to redirect attacks for Mew once it's already Transformed into a boosted setup sweeper; Amoonguss is especially notable for also being able to provide recovery by letting Mew Transform into it and take advantage of Regenerator.

Hampered by limited distribution and unsuitable candidates, Nasty Plot is a move that's rarely used in the UU metagame. That isn't to say it is bad in any way; Nasty Plot is a powerful boosting move that instantly doubles the Special Attack stat of the user. For a Pokemon that has as wide a movepool as Mew, this extra power can be devastating. After a boost or two, Mew's decent base 100 Special Attack stat is skyrocketed to explosive levels. Psyshock is Mew's way to break through special walls, being able to hit them on their weaker Defense stat; however, the stronger Psychic can be used if you know your team can easily clear out special walls for Mew to sweep. Fire Blast is a powerful Fire-type move with excellent coverage. It annihilates common Steel-types such as Escavalier and Bronzong, both of which can easily take Mew's Psychic STAB. When using Fire Blast, Giga Drain is recommended, as it can drain bulky Water-types that would otherwise take a few boosts to break, while also offsetting Life Orb Recoil. When using Fire Blast and Giga Drain for coverage, bulky Normal- and Psychic-type Pokemon, such as Snorlax, Porygon2, and opposing Mew, become more of a problem. Instead, one can switch to Aura Sphere. Aura Sphere also provides good coverage with Mew's Psychic STAB, and hits Dark- and Normal-types hoping to switch into battle. Dark Pulse complements Aura Sphere and lets Mew defeat Ghost- and fellow Psychic-types. A Timid nature is used to let Mew hit the all important base 100 Speed bracket where threats such as Zapdos reside. The 4 Special Defense EVs are used so Porygon2 and Porygon-Z cannot obtain Special Attack boosts upon switching in. A bulkier EV spread of 240 HP / 128 SpA / 4 SpD / 136 Spe with a Timid nature takes advantage of Mew's respectable bulk to set up much more easily while boasting similar power. Life Orb is the main item, as despite Mew's ability to double its Special Attack, it often lacks power without boosts, necessitating the Life Orb. However, Leftovers is still viable, especially on bulkier EV spreads that can take hits while setting up. Lum Berry is also viable, being especially useful against walls that rely on status to slow down Mew. Pokemon such as Slowbro and Suicune who attempt to Toxic stall Mew will find themselves against a +2 healthy Mew once Lum Berry has been activated. Because Nasty Plot Mew has incredible coverage against most special walls, partners that appreciate these walls being removed, such as Raikou, are especially good teammates for Mew. It is also a good idea to plan for whatever your Mew cannot break: if you're using Fire Blast and Giga Drain, Mew can be paired with a bulky Fighting-type, such as Swords Dance Heracross and Virizion, to break Snorlax, Porygon2, or any Dark-type, and if you're using Aura Sphere and Dark Pulse, Mew can be paired with a strong Fire-type, such as Darmanitan and Victini, to break Bronzong.

While Mew can pull off a destructive Nasty Plot set, it can be equally deadly with a Swords Dance set. While its base 100 Attack seems to put Mew at a disadvantage compared to more powerful sweepers such as Mienshao and Darmanitan, Mew makes up for its offensive shortfalls with superior bulk and excellent versatility. What makes Mew a powerful sweeper is its excellent movepool and unpredictability. An opponent expecting a special attacking or defensive Mew will quickly find themselves exposed after letting Mew obtain a Swords Dance boost. However, that isn't to say that Mew relies entirely on its unpredictability; even a known Swords Dance Mew can become a dangerous threat if left unchecked. Zen Headbutt is a powerful STAB move which, in conjunction with Mew's decent Speed, has a good chance to flinch the opponent. Drain Punch complements Mew's STAB, being able to pulverize Dark-types that shrug off Mew's Psychic-type assaults. Its ability to heal Mew should not be underestimated, as it allows Mew to restore health lost when setting up as well as mitigate Life Orb recoil. This passive recovery along with Mew's natural bulk means Mew is far more bulky than other common sweepers such as Mienshao and Weavile. Lastly, Mew rounds out its coverage with Sucker Punch, which hits Psychic-types that resist Zen Headbutt and Drain Punch. A powerful priority move in Sucker Punch lets Mew strike first against common Choice Scarf holders, such as Mismagius and Flygon, as well as beating Pokemon that naturally outspeed Mew. With perfect coverage, health regeneration, and priority, Mew is an extremely self-sufficient sweeper. An Adamant nature and maximum Speed allow Mew to outspeed base 85 Speed Pokemon, such as Heracross, Nidoking, Kingdra, and Rotom-A. The power from an Adamant nature is preferred as Mew is already fast and Sucker Punch is a significant perk of the set. An Adamant nature allows Mew to OHKO Flygon after just two switches into Stealth Rock with Sucker Punch, and has a good chance to 2HKO Suicune without hazards with Zen Headbutt. However, a Jolly nature can be used to outspeed threats such as Arcanine and Life Orb Darmanitan, and Speed tie with Shaymin and Zapdos. A few EVs are placed in Special Defense so Download Porygon2 and Porygon-Z are stuck with a useless Attack boost when switching in. The choice between Life Orb and Leftovers depends mostly on how you want Mew to be played. Drain Punch somewhat reduces Life Orb recoil and allows Mew to hit hard with little drawback. However, the combination of Drain Punch recovery and Leftovers keeps Mew alive against heavy harassment that would otherwise prevent Mew from sweeping. If you opt to use a more offensive EV spread, then Life Orb is the recommended choice, but bulkier EV spreads prefer Leftovers. Although Mew has perfect coverage and immense power with Swords Dance, it still struggles against incredibly bulky walls and Pokemon who can dodge Sucker Punch. Cofagrigus can take Mew's attacks well enough to burn it with Will-O-Wisp and can hit it super effectively. Sableye can wall Mew by virtue of its typing which renders Zen Headbutt and Drain Punch useless. Sableye can then burn Mew and stall it out with Recover. Faster Pokemon that use Substitute can outpredict Mew by setting up a Substitute when Mew uses Sucker Punch, or hit Mew first if Mew doesn't use its priority move.

This Mew is one of the biggest thorns in the side of stall, or any team that doesn't have the raw power to 2HKO it. Taunt shuts down slow walls and prevents them from taking care of Mew through passive damage and stops them from healing HP or inflicting Mew with status while it breaks them. Taunt also prevents slower Pokemon, such as slower variants of Togekiss, from boosting their stats, and even lets Mew stop popular Stealth Rock users, such as Swampert and Bronzong, from setting up entry hazards. Mew then uses Will-O-Wisp; this cripples any physical attacker that isn't a Fire-type, and even special attackers hate the passive damage that they cannot heal because of Taunt. Soft-Boiled keeps Mew healthy while its opponent slowly succumbs to passive damage, and also allows Mew to wall powerful Pokemon, such as Choice Specs Raikou, Zapdos, Nidoking, and Nidoqueen. Finally, Psyshock allows Mew to break Substitutes for popular Substitute sweepers, such as Raikou and Kingdra. Psychic is more powerful, but using Psychic means Mew will lose against Substitute + Calm Mind Pokemon. The 24 Speed EVs allow Mew to outspeed Adamant Honchkrow and burn it before it can use Brave Bird. The rest maximize its Special Defense, allowing Mew to become a great special wall. However, this set can use a spread of 252 HP / 80 SpD / 176 Spe with a Timid nature to outspeed Roserade and OHKO with Psyshock. Snorlax is a good partner for this Mew as it can switch into Victini and Yanmega, two huge threats to Mew, and fight back with strong physical moves. Umbreon lacks the ability to beat Yanmega, but it retains the ability to check Victini and also resists Dark-type attacks. Nidoqueen checks Heracross, which can be problematic if it sneaks into battle, and can set up entry hazards to deal even more damage to stall teams. If used on a more offensive team, Mew should be paired with a fast and powerful sweeper that takes advantage of crippled walls. Mew can switch into the Poison-type Pokemon, such as Crobat and Nidoqueen, that stop Heracross and Mienshao from sweeping and threaten them with super effective STAB Psyshock. Mew can cripple special walls such as Snorlax and Umbreon to open up sweep for a special sweeper such as Raikou or Zapdos. Mew can also cripple bulky Water-type Pokemon standing in the way of a Darmanitan or Victini sweep, but Scald burns can ruin its longevity.

This modified version of Mew's familiar 4th generation lead set can prove quite useful for offensive and balanced teams needing a Stealth Rock user, scout, and anti-lead, but are strapped for teamslots. The drastic drop in Explosion's power took an important card out of Mew's deck, but without it Mew still functions nearly as well. Stealth Rock is, as always, an important move to have, especially considering the relatively few Pokemon in the Uber environment capable of deploying it. The choice between Taunt and Magic Coat dictates how Mew will deal with opposing leads' attempts to set up. Taunt denies slower leads such as Groudon, Forretress, and Dialga the use of their supporting moves, most notably preventing their early use of entry hazards. Magic Coat allows Mew to bounce faster or priority Taunts back at the user, as well as sending back Darkrai's Dark Void; it can also help in dealing with early entry hazard users, often preventing the opponent from setting up their hazards and getting a layer up for yourself at the same time. U-turn is a great utility move and can help Mew escape unfavorable lead matchups, break Focus Sashes on leads such as Deoxys-S and Deoxys-A, as well as provide Mew with some usefulness midgame after the other moves have served their purpose. The choice between Fake Out and Magic Coat depends on whether you prefer to break Focus Sashes, or have extra insurance against opposing leads setting up. It should be noted that the extra damage from Fake Out can at times be significant, and the ability to break Deoxys-A's Focus Sash and tack on the rough equivalent of Stealth Rock damage before U-turning out of Pokemon such as Deoxys-S and Darkrai is never to be overlooked. Mew does not have many options other relevant to the lead spot. Explosion can still hurt Pokemon such as Chansey, Hasty Palkia, and Kyogre, but it never OHKOes without a ridiculous amount of Attack investment (we are talking Adamant with a Choice Band here), so it is rarely worth it. Will-O-Wisp is an interesting option to cripple Groudon leads and other random physically-based switch-ins, though the listed moves are more useful overall. Being a support oriented Pokemon itself, Mew does not require much support other than help dealing with a select few leads: Deoxys-S, Darkrai, Arceus-Ghost, Choice Scarf Kyogre, and Rayquaza. Choice Band Scizor has good synergy with Mew, and can take 4 HP variants of Deoxys-S and Darkrai out with Bullet Punch after Fake Out + U-turn from Mew. Arceus-Ghost can Magic Coat Mew's Stealth Rock / Taunt back, or 2HKO it with STAB Judgment or Shadow Claw, while Mew can do nothing back. Groudon can generally handle Arceus-Ghost, though variants with Will-O-Wisp can prove troublesome. Palkia can switch into Kyogre's Water Spout and threaten Rayquaza out after Mew breaks any potential Focus Sash with Fake Out. Giratina-O can keep Mew's Stealth Rock on the field, and also pick off Deoxys-S and Mewtwo with Shadow Sneak; note that their typings stack weaknesses to Dark- and Ghost-type attacks, however.

Mew has the ability to set up an almost certainly game breaking sweep in the blink of an eye, and with dual screen support, it can be very hard to stop. The strategy is simple: bring Mew in when the coast looks clear, usually after one of your own Pokemon faints, and start boosting. Rock Polish is a must to provide the recipient with the Speed necessary to attempt a sweep. The choice between Swords Dance and Nasty Plot depends on the recipient your team is built around; a physically based recipient will require Swords Dance, while a specially based one will need Nasty Plot. Baton Pass is the crux of the set and lets Mew pass any boosts it has accumulated to something more capable of using them. The last slot decides what Mew can effectively set up on. Substitute is the primary option, as it blocks status, prevents Dragon Tail's phazing effect, and can be Baton Passed, although Taunt is still an option to stop Roar or Whirlwind. Magic Coat has a few interesting uses, namely shooting back status moves such as Dark Void and sending any traditional phazing moves back at the user. Leftovers is usually the best choice to help Mew keep up a Substitute, and survive a bit longer to potentially squeeze in another boost, but Lum Berry is the preferred option should you forgo Substitute for Taunt or Magic Coat, as an untimely status affliction can spell doom for Mew. The EVs listed provide optimum bulk while still outspeeding Deoxys-S after a Rock Polish, though an alternate spread of 252 HP / 168 Def / 20 SpD / 68 Spe with a Bold nature will let Mew survive a Life Orb-boosted Shadow Claw + Extreme Speed from Arceus, without screens, while still outpacing any stray Deoxys-S after a Speed boost. Don't be afraid to use Baton Pass before gaining any boosts if the situation is not yet ideal for Mew. Of course, it is not a very good idea if Reflect and Light Screen are already in place, but bringing Mew out early in the game and immediately using Baton Pass out can give you a shot at taking on your opponent's Baton counter(s) before they get a chance to take on Mew. Mew really depends on dual screen support to keep it alive long enough to set up, so teammates capable of consistently providing them are necessary. Mewtwo, Latios, and Deoxys-S are the most effective dual screen users, each with their own niche. Mewtwo has access to Self-Destruct to bring Mew in unscathed, while also getting a decent hit on the opponent's active Pokemon. Latios follows suit with Memento, this time sharply lowering the opponent's offensive stats in exchange for its remaining life. Lastly, Deoxys-S possesses insane Speed and can lay Stealth Rock or Spikes in addition to the screens. Keep in mind that all three share common weaknesses with Mew, so make sure to have Ghost-, Dark-, and Bug-type resistances worked into the rest of the team. Groudon is the usually the best physical recipient, though Terrakion gives it competition through better STAB coverage and resistance to Extreme Speed. Though much less bulky, Terrakion can potentially snag a third devastating attack boost if it comes in on Dark Pulse / Crunch thanks to its ability, Justified. On the other hand, Dialga is the best specially-based recipient; with sky-high Special Attack, great resistances to both Extreme Speed and Bullet Punch, as well as solid overall bulk, it will nearly always pull off a sweep when successfully passed to. Wobbuffet can net Mew or a dual screen user a free turn to start setting up, but keep overall weaknesses in mind. Scizor and Forretress both have good synergy with Mew, and can bring Mew in off of a slow U-turn or set up and remove away entry hazards to support the team, respectively. Kyogre can generally force common phazers such as Groudon and Lugia out should they try and stand in Mew's way. Mew's counters are largely dependent on the final move choice on the set. If Substitute is used, users of Roar and Whirlwind, such as Groudon and Skarmory, can freely phaze Mew's hard work away; the same goes for Dragon Tail users such as Giratina and Lugia if Taunt is chosen. Lastly, Darkrai and Prankster users can be troublesome without Magic Coat to redirect their Dark Void and priority Taunt, respectively. That said, there are a few Pokemon that can outright kill Mew, even when behind screens. Choice Specs Kyogre can 2HKO with Water Spout or just spam Ice Beam should the opponent know your recipient is a Groudon. Choice Band Tyranitar can 2HKO with Crunch or Payback, but neither Dialga or Groudon will mind switching into it much, while Terrakion will actually enjoy it. Punishment Ho-Oh can cause problems as well, and can catch you off guard with Whirlwind, or land a burn on the recipient with Sacred Fire. Although relatively uncommon, Choice Scarf Deoxys-S can outspeed Mew or the recipient after a boost and cripple them with Trick.

Mew's good bulk, solid damage output, great ability, and unrivaled flexibility make it one of the standout leads in the metagame. Fake Out applies immediate pressure, creating opportunities for partners to set up and dish out damage uncontested or giving a Pokemon in the back a free switch. Mew is able to outspeed and use Fake Out before opposing Hitmontop, the other common Fake Out user in the tier. Psychic 2HKOes Fighting-types such as Hitmontop and Heracross. Earth Power complements it by hitting common Psychic-resistant foes such as Metagross and Heatran for super effective damage. Mew's last move is traditionally an option that covers up a team's specific weakness. Taunt stops Trick Room setters such as Bronzong or Cresselia and status moves from Rotom-A and opposing Mew. Thunder Wave is an option to cripple fast threats such as Latias. Stealth Rock is an option to punish switches, particularly on Rock-weak Pokemon such as Gyarados. Mew has such a vast movepool, so a variety of alternative moves are also viable. Superpower can be used to 2HKO Tyranitar and U-turn allows Mew to act as a pivot and generate momentum. Will-O-Wisp cripples physical attackers such as Metagross and Trick Room offers alternative speed control. Sitrus Berry is the most common item on Fake Out Mew, as the burst healing complements its good bulk. Lum Berry lets Mew use Thunder Wave against opposing Mew without paralyzing itself because of Synchronize and better absorb opposing status while, Life Orb gives Mew a greater offensive presence. Maximizing its Special Attack and Speed with a Timid Nature allow mew to make the most of its offensive capabilities, but it can forego special attack investment to run 252 HP to survive more hits instead. Mew is most commonly seen as a lead, leveraging its utility and flexibility to create a better board position for its team. Fast teams love Taunt Mew as a fail-safe against Trick Room teams, while Thunder Wave Mew make faster threats such as Latias more manageable. Mew trades well into most of the tier, so often it prefers to stay in and attack after its utility support is no longer needed, even sacrificing itself to give teammates a free switch. While Mew is flexible, it can't run everything it wants to in every game, which give opponents the ability to exploit Mew's lack of coverage once its set has been revealed. On lead, heavy-hitting partners such as Latias, Metagross, and Choice Specs Rotom-A all love the free turn provided by Mew's Fake Out in order to dish out damage uncontested. Metagross makes a great partner by threatening Tyranitar for Mew while benefiting from Mew's speed control in Thunder Wave. Tyranitar also makes for a good partner as one of the best answers to Rotom-A and Latias. Choice Scarf Tyranitar can trap Rotom-A and Latias with Pursuit or OHKO them with Crunch, which otherwise threaten to KO Mew or cripple it by giving it a Choice item with Trick. Alternatively, Dragon Dance Tyranitar can start setting up relatively uncontested on Rotom-A and Latias. Other partners such as Raikou appreciate the free turn from Mew's Fake Out to set up dual screens or Rain Dance.

Swords Dance Mew aims to take advantage of traditional counterplay to Fake Out Mew such as Latias, Rotom-A, and Tyranitar by setting up and sweeping with strong priority in Sucker Punch and spread damage in Earthquake. Sucker Punch lets Mew handle faster threats such as Latias and Ground immune foes such as Rotom-A, while Earthquake spreads big damage, threatening 2HKOs on common Pokémon such as Tyranitar and Metagross after a Swords Dance boost. Protect keeps Mew safe from opposing attacks. Soft-Boiled is an option to improve Mew's longevity, but it is riskier than Protect, as Mew isn't able to avoid Fake Out from the opponent. Synchronize is a great ability for Swords Dance Mew, as it dissuades opponents from attempting to cripple it with status moves such as Thunder Wave. Lum Berry lets Mew absorb status more easily, freeing it up to take an extra turn to set up in front of Pokemon such as bulky Gyarados and support Raikou. Alternatively Sitrus Berry can be used if burst healing is preferred over absorbing a Thunder Wave, allowing Mew to live a crucial extra turn. It is hard to distinguish Mew sets from lead, and as such, it can aggressively use Swords Dance to punish plays such as using Protect or switching out that are common against utility Mew. It is important to set up Swords Dance quickly, as Mew lacks offensive presence without this boost and Intimidate from Hitmontop and Gyarados cripples its damage output. Rotom-A is a great partner as it threatens Earthquake-immune Pokemon that aren't weak to Sucker Punch such as Gyarados and Togekiss while also being immune to Earthquake itself. Tyranitar also threatens super effective damage on these Pokemon, but it has to be more careful about taking hits from Gyarados. Swords Dance Mew appreciates the free turns generated by Fake Out support from Hitmontop. Intimidate users such as Gyarados and Hitmontop can slow Mew down, so strong special attackers such as Latias that can ignore the Attack drop and deal damage while Mew sets up make for good teammates.
