It also allows Liepard to set up on Will-O-Wisp users that might otherwise try to burn Liepard, assuming a physical set, and mitigates Toxic damage. Usage Tips Nasty Plot Liepard should be saved for the late-game if possible, as it is easily walled by Pokemon that resist Dark and once the opponent knows it is a Nasty Plot sweeper, they do not have to worry about other utility options Liepard could bluff, such as Thunder Wave and Pursuit. Wallbreakers and stallbreakers that can wear down teams in general, such as Magmortar and Mismagius, are also highly useful for making Liepard's sweep easier to accomplish. Entry hazard support is also highly recommended to make up for Liepard's lack of raw power. Mesprit can use Stealth Rock consistently while dealing with Fighting-types and being able to give Liepard a second chance at sweeping with Healing Wish if necessary. Switch Liepard into predicted Psychic-type attacks from the likes of Xatu, Mesprit, and Claydol and attempt to Pursuit trap them as they switch out. However, be cautious of recklessly bringing Liepard into attacks, as it is very frail and will get KOed by coverage moves such as Choice Specs Mesprit's Ice Beam and Musharna's Signal Beam should the opponent predict a switch. Liepard should also make sure that any Colbur Berries have been used up before it attempts to trap Psychic-types, as they can OHKO Liepard with Signal Beam if they survive the hit. Pivot out with U-turn if the opponent has hard counters to Liepard, such as Mega Audino and bulky Charizard. Lanturn and Mesprit are also beneficial VoltTurn partners, as their low speed enables them to bring Liepard in unscathed. Pokemon commonly found on stall teams, such as Bronzor, Mega Audino, and Sliggoo, appreciate Liepard's ability to selectively trap stallbreakers such as Calm Mind Xatu, Jynx, Mismagius, and Zangoose with some prior damage. Choice Band Liepard can lure specific Pokemon and eliminate them with its coverage to clear the way for other wallbreakers and sweepers. For example, Seed Bomb enables it to lure and KO Quagsire, which clears the way for Malamar. Aurorus and Magmortar appreciate Hariyama getting lured and KOed by Play Rough so they can spam their STAB attacks. Usage Tips Liepard's main aim is to support its teammates and give them good opportunities to either set up and sweep or break through the opponent's team. Liepard should not try to switch into foes unless it is very likely they will be using a non-attacking move, as it will be OHKOed by practically any neutral STAB attack. If they are very likely to use a non-attacking move, however, such as Lilligant using Quiver Dance after putting one of your Pokemon to sleep with Sleep Powder, Liepard should switch in, as the threat of Encore will either force them to switch out or lock them into their boosting move to be taken down by Knock Off and Pursuit. Team Options Setup sweepers highly appreciate Liepard's ability to lock down foes with Encore and U-turn and provide them with switch in and setup opportunities. Speed-boosting sweepers such as Vivillon, Ludicolo, and Barbaracle are especially deadly with the free turn that Liepard can provide them with. Fast offensive Pokemon such as Archeops and Floatzel similarly like Liepard's ability to shut down opposing setup sweepers that could threaten them later in the match. Fighting-type Pokemon such as Primeape and Hitmonchan synergize well with Liepard, as it can effectively trap and remove problematic foes to these Pokemon, such as Musharna, Rotom, and Mesprit, with Encore and Pursuit. Poison-type Pokemon can switch into the Fairy- and Fighting-types that like to switch into Liepard, such as Mega Audino and Hariyama. Garbodor is an especially good teammate, as it can provide Spikes support to help Liepard whittle down foes throughout the match, while Liepard can trap Xatu with Pursuit and prevent it from interfering with Garbodor's entry hazards. Usage Tips Liepard should usually enter battle when weather is about to run out or a teammate is KOed outside of weather so it can guarantee more weather turns with Prankster. It shouldn't generally be used as a lead, as other weather leads have access to entry hazards, and these should be set up before any weather sweeps should be attempted under most circumstances. Liepard also shouldn't switch into foes directly due to its lack of bulk, and bringing it in during weather turns should be avoided unless a setup sweeper desperately needs to be stopped with Encore. Once the appropriate weather has been set, Liepard should exit battle quickly to ensure that its teammates can take advantage of the weather for as long as possible. Liepard should be preserved for later if weather-setting foes like Abomasnow and Aurorus are present, as it can achieve little while they are free to switch in, and it risks either being KOed or letting a teammate take heavy damage as it switches out. In the late-game, Liepard can also be sacrificed to set up weather for one final sweep, with its low bulk making it very easy to KO, allowing an abuser to come in for free after it is defeated. Team Options Weather sweepers are mandatory partners to capitalize on Liepard's support. Swift Swim users such as Kabutops and Ludicolo are the main threats to take advantage of Rain Dance with, while Chlorophyll users such as Victreebel and Exeggutor are the best options to use if Sunny Day is run. Additionally, wallbreakers and generally fast offensive Pokemon such as Samurott, Magmortar, and Pyroar can make good use of the boosts to their STAB attacks in their respective weather conditions. A bulky weather setter should be used alongside Liepard so that weather can be established in a wider range of situations and with less risk against powerful offensive Pokemon. Mesprit can make good use of Rain Dance, Sunny Day, and Stealth Rock to support its team and can use a slow U-turn to get weather sweepers into battle safely and efficiently. Checks to Snow Warning Pokemon, namely Abomasnow and Aurorus, are also important, as they automatically remove Liepard's weather by switching in and must be dealt with before a sweep can be completed. Assault Vest Magmortar can switch into Ice-type moves reliably but must be wary of coverage moves.

While it seems risky for such a frail Pokemon to adopt a prediction-heavy task, Liepard has all the moves it needs to minimize this risk. For a trapper, Skuntank is usually used in this role, but Liepard's advantages are better Speed, U-turn for grabbing momentum, and Encore for stopping setup sweepers and Substitute users, while Skuntank has to rely on prediction and usually isn't fast enough to use Taunt on them to ease said prediction. Sucker Punch revenge kills weakened targets and is Liepard's strongest unboosted attack, but it fails if the opponent switches or doesn't attack. Pursuit can hunt down those that flee and take them out anyway. Should the opponent stick around to either set up or heal, Prankster Encore locks the opponent into the non-damaging move they used on a previous turn regardless of any Speed they may have attained, turning the opponent into a sitting duck. What this means is that Liepard can thwart almost any attempt to bypass Sucker Punch by itself. From there, U-turn and Pursuit gives Liepard's team the advantage against the switches the opponent will be making to escape Encore or Sucker Punch. U-turn also allows Liepard to escape its counters while landing chip damage. Night Slash provides more reliable STAB, but Pursuit is preferred as it punishes Pokemon attempting a switch, especially after they have been Encored, while Sucker Punch is stronger and its risks have been reduced thanks to Liepard's other moves. Encore and U-turn makes Liepard a great partner for setup sweepers such as Carracosta, Samurott, and Braviary, or frail attackers such as Swellow, Drifblim, Zangoose, and Haunter, all of whom like free switch-ins. Walls such as Alomomola and Regice are good counters because Liepard doesn't have the sheer power to break them, thus wallbreakers such as Eelektross and Samurott are recommended.

Liepard's access to Prankster makes it a perfect choice to set up weather for weather teams. While Liepard faces competition from Volbeat as a weather setter, its immunity to Psychic-type moves gives it more opportunities to switch in and set up. Unlike Volbeat, it also has decent Attack and Speed to strike back against frailer foes and can defeat Kadabra and Gardevoir, both of which threaten weather teams. Its Speed stat also allows it to set up weather against faster opponents with priority moves, such as Pinsir and Zangoose, unlike Volbeat. Rain Dance or Sunny Day would depend on whether you are using a rain or sun team. Encore is a great move to punish Psychic-types, status spreaders, and Kangaskhan using Fake Out, locking them into undesirable moves and getting a free opportunity to set up weather in the process. U-turn allows Liepard to gain momentum on switches and threaten Kadabra and Exeggutor. Finally, Sucker Punch is Liepard's most powerful move to punish faster opponents that think they can beat it. It also works well with Encore punishing opponents that try to avoid Sucker Punch by using a status move. The EV spread allows Liepard to outspeed Kadabra and Speed tie at worst with other Liepard, but a more specially defensive EV spread can be used for an easier time setting up against Ghost-types. Thunder Wave is an option to spread paralysis, crippling threats to weather teams such as Kangaskhan, but that is best left to Volbeat. Taunt is a decent alternative move, preventing opponents from using entry hazards. This could prove useful due to rain teams' weakness to Toxic Spikes and sun teams' weakness to Stealth Rock. Foul Play can be used over Sucker Punch to potentially deal more damage. Pursuit is also another option to defeat fleeing Psychic-types and ensure that these Pokemon trouble the team. It also catches out opponents fleeing after being Encore-locked into an unfavorable move. Volbeat is a great partner and fellow supporter of weather teams. In combination with Volbeat, Liepard can almost ensure the weather consistently stays up throughout the game. Other weather inducers, such as Rotom-S, Regirock, Gardevoir, and Illumise, are appreciated to take the pressure off Liepard and aid in setting up weather. Teammates that take advantage of their respective weather are essential. For rain teams, Pokemon with Swift Swim or Hydration are good users of rain. For example, Ludicolo, Seismitoad, Carracosta, Mantine, Gorebyss, Floatzel, and Swanna can take advantage of rain very well. Meanwhile, Chlorophyll users and Fire-types can take advantage of the sun. This includes Exeggutor, Shiftry, Sawsbuck, Victreebel, Rapidash, and Charizard. Weather teams in general dislike entry hazards, more so for rain teams with Toxic Spikes and sun teams with Stealth Rock. This is because Toxic Spikes easily wears down rain teams while Fire-types that are omnipresent on sun teams are weak to Stealth Rock Garbodor is a good Toxic Spikes absorber, and it can set up entry hazards of its own to aid in its team's sweep. Mold Breaker Sawk is useful for sun teams to get rid of opposing Stealth Rock users. Finally, Torkoal and Armaldo are decent Rapid Spin users for sun and rain teams respectively. ​
