Usage Tips Because of Eviolite, Bulbasaur doesn't have as much of a problem switching in with this set. However, it's still beneficial to try to switch into a neutral or resisted hit so as to take as little damage as possible. Sleep Powder should be saved for a Pokemon that Bulbasaur can't easily take down. Once the opposing Pokemon is asleep, use Growth as the enemy either switches that Pokemon out or wastes the turn staying in. From there, Bulbasaur should attempt to punch as many holes in the enemy team as it can. Because only one Pokemon can be asleep at a time, avoid putting Pokemon to sleep that could have been OHKOed instead. Try to remove opposing Fire-type Pokemon before setting up sun. Fire-types tend to be able to wall Chlorophyll sweepers. Team Options Vulpix is the best choice for a teammate, as it automatically starts sun upon switching in. Heat Rock on Vulpix is nice, as it gives Bulbasaur more time to set up and sweep. This set has trouble with Fire-types such as Ponyta and Vulpix, so Pokemon that counter them are appreciated. Archen or Diglett are both useful for this function. Stealth Rock also minimizes the effect that they have on Bulbasaur's sweep. Archen is especially useful, as it also takes care of Fletchling and other Flying-type Pokemon. Chinchou can stop Fire-types and Flying-types well.

Moves Sludge Bomb is a powerful STAB move with a 30% chance to poison the enemy, which helps to get through Fairy- and Grass-type Pokemon. Solar Beam is an incredible STAB move, as it takes only one turn to charge in the sun and hits Water-, Rock-, and Ground-types super effectively. Giga Drain can be used over Solar Beam, as it doesn't rely on the sun to charge up. A sun-boosted Hidden Power Fire helps Bulbasaur get around Steel-types that would otherwise wall it, as well as just providing it with all-around coverage. Team Options Vulpix is an obvious choice for a partner, as Drought lets it automatically set up sun upon switching in. If Vulpix has a Heat Rock, that's even better, as it means that the sun will last longer and Bulbasaur will benefit more from Chlorophyll. Bulbasaur pairs well with other Chlorophyll sweepers, as they also benefit from the sun and can break through walls, allowing Bulbasaur to clean up late-game. Flying-types, especially Fletchling, are a huge threat to Bulbasaur, so Pokemon like Chinchou and Archen are extremely useful. Bulbasaur has trouble safely switching in, so Pokemon that can provide a slow U-turn or Volt Switch, such as Mienfoo, Vullaby, and Chinchou, are extremely useful.

Bulbasaur reaches 21 Speed and 17 Special Attack with a Choice Scarf and a Modest nature, making it an effective revenge killer. Sleep Powder is a nice move to have, allowing Bulbasaur to quickly put something to sleep, though it requires Bulbasaur to switch out after use. Leaf Storm is the most powerful move Bulbasaur gets, but it does lower Bulbasaur's Special Attack, making Bulbasaur more vulnerable after each successive use. Sludge Bomb is much weaker, but it is a more reliable STAB move that hits many Pokemon that resist Grass hard. Hidden Power Fire is the final move, hitting Steel-types and Dry Skin Croagunk super effectively. Timid is an option, allowing Bulbasaur to outrun Pokemon sitting right at 21 Speed, which is a common benchmark for Choice Scarf users to aim for. The loss in power is undesirable, however. Steel-types can switch in on any move other than Hidden Power Fire, making them good checks. For this reason, Magnemite and Diglett are good partners as they can trap and KO most Steel-types, allowing Bulbasaur to use its STAB attacks more safely. Gastly switches in easily to every move Bulbasaur can use other than Sleep Powder. Pawniard and Munchlax can trap Gastly with Pursuit, making them good teammates for Bulbasaur as well. Faster Pokemon with set-up moves to boost Speed are also issues. These include Mantyke, Shellder, Clamperl, and any Houndour and Ponyta that use Flame Charge. Chinchou is therefore a good teammate, dealing with Mantyke, Houndour, and Ponyta nicely. Ferroseed can work well against Shellder and Clamperl, making it a useful teammate as well. Lastly, a priority user such as Timburr can be used as a backup revenge killer for faster Pokemon.

The purpose of this set is to function as an effective revenge killer and a good late-game sweeper. Sleep Powder may seem a bit odd on a Choice set since Bulbasaur has to switch out as soon as it uses it. However, with a Choice Scarf, Bulbasaur outspeeds all unboosted Pokemon in Little Cup, practically guaranteeing that it cripples an opposing Pokemon on a consistent basis. Sludge Bomb is a very strong and reliable STAB attack, and it is the preferred attacking option on this set. Leaf Storm is an even more powerful STAB, but it gets much weaker each time it's used, which can leave Bulbasaur open to being set up on. Together, Bulbasaur's STAB moves have less than ideal coverage, so Hidden Power is there to round out what Sludge Bomb and Leaf Storm can't hit. Hidden Power Ground is used to hit Steel-types, such as Aron and Magnemite, while Hidden Power Fire is almost exclusively for Bronzor. A Modest nature gives a bit of an extra pop to Bulbasaur's attacks, and this can be crucial in securing KOs in many different situations. Due to the abundance of Choice Scarf users in Little Cup, however, a Timid nature is fine to outpace a great deal of them. One Pokemon this set works excellently with is Houndour, thanks to the near perfect defensive and offensive synergy it shares with Bulbasaur. If you really don't like the Special Attack drop from Leaf Storm, then Energy Ball is usable; however, unless you are keeping Bulbasaur in for more than 3 turns, Leaf Storm is always the better option. Hidden Power can also be changed around to suit what threats your team needs to have covered. Keep in mind, however, that STAB neutral Sludge Bomb is just as powerful as a super effective Hidden Power, so make sure there is no overlapping coverage. Bulbasaur really isn't the kind of Pokemon to base a team around, but it appreciates the support of Water-types, such as Mantyke and Chinchou, as well as Fire-types, like Ponyta and Houndour, because they all share excellent defensive and offensive synergy. Bulbasaur generally enjoys entry hazard support to guarantee certain KOs it would not normally achieve. Good teammates to set up entry hazards include Bronzor, Sandshrew, and Cacnea.
