Sacred Fire spreads burns and discourages Pokemon such as Salamence and Hippowdon from switching in, but it has low PP and cannot be used liberally. Flare Blitz scores 2HKOs on Pokemon that Sacred Fire misses out on, such as Hatterene, Hippowdon and Chansey. It also has perfect accuracy for cleaning. Stone Edge hits Rotom-H and Moltres, which would otherwise come in easily on Entei. It is also Entei's best way to hit Water-types such as Slowking and Primarina. Extreme Speed revenge kills faster threats such as Azelf and Choice Scarf Hydreigon. Inner Focus ignores Intimidate from foes like Krookodile and Salamence. Entry hazard removal is necessary for Entei to properly function as an early-game wallbreaker. Pokemon such as Salamence, Rotom-W, and Excadrill are highly recommended; Rotom-W can also lure in Grass-types and pivot into Entei with Volt Switch. Grass-types such as Zarude and Amoonguss are also ideal partners, as they check bothersome Water- and Rock-types such as Primarina and Rhyperior. Zarude can also bring Entei in against foes like Scizor and Skarmory to fire off Sacred Fire. Since it struggles against Dragon-types like Salamence, Entei greatly appreciates Fairy-types like Hatterene and Azumarill; Hatterene can also dissuade Stealth Rock with Magic Bounce. RestTalk Primarina and Slowking can take on annoyances like Hydreigon and Hippowdon for Entei. Slowking can also bring Entei in safely with Teleport. Fast teammates like Raikou, Noivern, and Choice Scarf Diggersby can revenge kill faster foes that threaten Entei, such as Keldeo, Zygarde-10%, and Azelf.

Set Description Assault Vest Entei chooses to tank hits and outdamage its targets. Inner Focus is used to defeat Choice Scarf Togekiss and non-Choice Band Arcanine. Sacred Fire can be used for the 50% burn chance, but Flare Blitz is generally better for its higher damage and PP, defeating Venusaur and Aromatisse far more reliably. Bulldoze is mandatory to deal with Pokemon such as Heatran, Assault Vest Arcanine, and Spectrier. Eruption deals incredible damage to Pokemon with low Special Defense, such as Steelix, Registeel, and Avalugg, while making the Aromatisse matchup more consistent. Stone Edge, however, can be used instead to deal with Kee Berry Volcarona and Rotom-H. Extreme Speed is an excellent, high-damage move that deals with Custap Berry users and Air Balloon Heatran. EVs The Special Defense and HP investment lets Entei tank two Earth Powers from Modest Heatran. With a Jolly nature, 216 Speed EVs outspeed Adamant Choice Band Galarian Darmanitan, and Entei still defeats Venusaur if using Flare Blitz. An Adamant nature can be used instead to make the Aromatisse matchup more consistent, but this loses out on the Galarian Darmanitan matchup. An alternative EV spread of 8 HP / 76 Atk / 208 Def / 216 Spe with a Jolly nature gives a more reliable Galarian Darmanitan matchup, tanking Jolly Choice Scarf Darmanitan's Earthquake. Usage Tips Use Extreme Speed on Air Balloon Pokemon like Heatran. Sacred Fire is used on targets that instantaneously lose when burned, such as Zeraora. Use Eruption versus Aromatisse if you think it is physically defensive, and Flare Blitz or Sacred Fire otherwise. Eruption is also used for Steelix and Avalugg. Entei is fairly straightforward outside of these scenarios; the most effective move usually wins.

Set Description Pressure stall Entei can easily beat many slower attackers, such as Choice Specs Volcanion, Venusaur, Dracozolt, and Assault Vest Goodra, while also dealing with some faster attackers like Zarude, Pheromosa, and Kartana well. Leftovers is mandatory to create more Substitutes. Protect and Substitute stall out opposing attacks easily, such as Urshifu-S's Wicked Blow and Volcanion's Steam Eruption, and Protect adds Leftovers healing to make more Substitutes. Sacred Fire can turn tough matchups versus Pokemon like Zeraora into winning ones with a single burn; on the other hand, Flare Blitz can be used for a more reliable Galarian Darmanitan matchup and more PP, which can help versus some opposing stall Pokemon like Galarian Corsola. Toxic is standard on Pressure stall Pokemon like Entei to take advantage of foes that require setup to OHKO them, such as Volcarona and opposing stall Pokemon like Chansey. Laser Focus is a potential option to defeat Registeel, since critical hits ignore Registeel's Defense boosts through Iron Defense. EVs 252 Defense EVs give the best possible odds to beat Adamant Choice Scarf Galarian Darmanitan. 252 Speed EVs with a Jolly nature Speed tie Zapdos, Galarian Zapdos, and opposing Entei, and they outspeed all base 95s, most notably Galarian Darmanitan and Tapu Lele. Usage Tips Against a vast majority of Pokemon, the win path is usually stalling out their super effective moves via Pressure's doubled PP consumption, Substitute, and Protect. Toxic assists in this task versus Pokemon that don't rely on direct attacks to win, such as Chansey and stall Cresselia, or Pokemon that are too weak to OHKO Entei, like Zapdos. Versus Registeel, if you run Laser Focus, use Laser Focus turn 1 and then alternate between your Fire-type attack and it, or use Substitute turn 2 instead if Counter is revealed.

Entei is a powerful attacker that utilizes STAB Extreme Speed to threaten a large portion of offensive Pokemon. Sacred Fire is Entei's secondary STAB attack and allows it to hit Steel-types such as Mew, Reuniclus, and Magearna. Additionally, Sacred Fire's high burn chance can hinder switch-ins and deter physical attackers from directly switching in. Crunch helps against Fire-resistant Ghost-types such as Slowbro, Galarian Slowking, and Salamence. Stone Edge is useful coverage that hits Fire-types like Latias, Arcanine, and Volcarona, although its low accuracy can be a hindrance. Alternatively, Toxic can be used as the last slot on Choice Band sets, as it allows Entei to inflict poison on foes such as Slowbro, Mew, and Salamence. Choice Band is prefered for immediate power, although Entei can also run Heavy-Duty Boots in conjunction with Howl to act as a setup sweeper. Inner Focus grants Entei an immunity to Intimidate, allowing it to deal normal damage to Landorus-T and Salamence. Latios, Tornadus-T, and Hydreigon appreciate Entei's ability to pressure specially defensive walls like Unaware Clefable and Blissey; in return, they are able to pressure physical walls such as Mew and Toxapex. Spectrier in particular is a great partner to Entei, as it heavily pressures Entei's Ghost-type checks. Rillaboom, Volcarona, and Zarude can utilize their Grass typing to break past bulky Water-types that threaten Entei, particularly Mew, Galarian Slowking, and Salamence. Entei is vulnerable to Stealth Rock, so it is important to have some form of entry hazard control; offensive Defoggers such as Tornadus-T and Landorus-T are some of the best options to fill this role.

Entei is a strong Altarianite Extreme Speed user, able to threaten various offensive Pokemon such as Zygarde and Regieleki. Double-Edge is Entei's main form of damage output, heavily damaging neutral targets such as Milotic and Slowbro, while Sacred Fire threatens Steel-types that otherwise resist Extreme Speed, such as Corviknight, Solgaleo, and Magearna. Howl can also be used over Double-Edge to boost Extreme Speed's power and let Entei function as an effective late-game sweeper. Stone Edge hits Flying-types such as Ho-Oh, as well as opposing Entei, who otherwise take very little damage from Entei's attacks. Double-Edge is usually preferred over Howl due to it being able to 2HKO Slowbro and Milotic. Inner Focus is used as the pre-Mega ability to avoid Attack drops from Intimidate before Entei Mega Evolves. Entei works well when paired with powerful wallbreakers such as Kartana and Xerneas, as it is very good at cleaning up weakened teams. Entei appreciates Stealth Rock support from Pokemon like Swampert to better wear down its checks. Swampert can also bring it in safely with Flip Turn. Entei also likes having entry hazard removers like Defog Landorus-T and Rapid Spin Regieleki to help mitigate its Stealth Rock weakness. Entei struggles to break Venusaurite Steel-types such as Solgaleo, so Magnezone pairs well with it to trap and remove them. Ground-types such as Landorus-T and Swampert can force Entei out with Earthquake, so strong Ice- and Grass-type Pokemon like Weavile and Kartana make good partners. Lucarionite Dragapult threatens Slowbro and helps wear down Milotic, making it a great partner for Entei. 80 EVs can be taken out of Speed and put into HP to slightly increase Entei's bulk white still outspeeding base 80 Speed Pokemon with a neutral nature.

Entei is a hard hitting Fire-type with access to priority. Entei’s decent natural bulk and Magic Guard, which prevents entry hazard damage and Life Orb recoil, makes it hard to chip it down. Recoil free Flare Blitz lets Entei force out common defensive Pokemon such as Corviknight and Jirachi, as well as common Grass-type Pokemon such as Zarude and Dhelmise. Entei’s Fire typing allows it to offensively check common Triage Pokemon such as Togekiss and Tapu Bulu, as it resists Draining Kiss and Horn Leech. Stomping Tantrum allows Entei to threaten Electric- and Fire-type Pokemon such as Primordial Sea Tapu Koko and opposing Entei. Extreme Speed allows Entei to KO weakened fast offensive threats such as Barraskewda and Zygarde-10%. Toxic is used to chip down defensive Pokemon such as Swampert and Tapu Fini, who otherwise take little damage from Entei’s attacks. Toxic has extra synergy with Stomping Tantrum, as if Toxic fails, Stomping Tantrum is doubled in power next turn, which is particularly valuable against Toxapex. Stone Edge can be run over Stomping Tantrum to hit Zapdos and Talonflame. An Adamant nature is used to take advantage of Entei’s high Attack stat while still outspeeding most defensive threats. If using Stone Edge, a Jolly nature can be run in order to Speed tie Zapdos. Entei can fit on most teams, but works best on balance and bulky offense teams. Entei appreciates Pokemon such as Zapdos and Tapu Koko that can force out checks like Toxapex. Entei pairs well with Terrakion and Zarude, as it can threaten out Corviknight for them, and in return they pressure Swampert, one of Entei’s most reliable checks. Primordial Sea users like Zapdos and Barraskewda threaten Entei tremendously, so reliable revenge killers and switch-ins like Tapu Fini make great teammates. Entei pairs well with Pokemon who can provide entry hazard support such as Swampert, helping Entei wear down its checks faster. Entei also appreciates Electric-type Pokemon such as Tapu Koko who can force out bulky Water-types and Flash Fire Corviknight who commonly switch in on Entei. Since Entei has no form of recovery, it appreciates teammates that can bring it in safely with a slow pivot like Swampert and Mew.

Entei is a decent user of Choice Band, since it usually just uses Sacred Fire anyway. Stone Edge, Stomping Tantrum, and Bulldoze are for hitting other Fire-types, while Iron Head is pure filler that gives Entei a 30% flinch chance against slower foes.

This Entei makes great use of Pressure, with Substitute, Protect, and Leftovers letting it stall opposing Pokemon out of PP. Sacred Fire's burn chance is still too great to ignore, but Toxic is useful for stalling defensive Pokemon such as Porygon2, Cresselia, and Slowbro. Note that this set is hopelessly walled by Heatran and Toxapex, so they must be prepared for.

Sacred Fire's 50% burn chance is Entei's biggest niche, making switching physical Pokemon such as Mega Salamence into it a daunting task. Stone Edge ensures that Entei can hit opposing Fire-types like Charizard hard, while Stomping Tantrum hits Heatran, Naganadel, and Stakataka. Bulldoze is an option over Stomping Tantrum, however, since it trades power for valuable speed control. Flame Charge is a good filler move, giving Entei a Speed boost to outspeed a large number of threats. Assault Vest gives Entei a reasonable amount of bulk. Note that most other Fire-types tend to fit teams better than Entei, so make sure Sacred Fire is needed for your team.

Moves Sacred Fire has a good chance to burn the foe, which is advantageous in lieu of Flare Blitz. Extreme Speed has priority over other moves, which is helpful for revenge killing weaker foes. Stone Edge lets Entei hit Flying-type Pokemon such as Dragonite, Zapdos, and Mega Charizard Y super effectively. Iron Head is used to beat Fairy-type Pokemon such as Mega Diancie and Clefable and Rock-type Pokemon such as Tyranitar and Omastar. Set Details Maximum Attack EVs with an Adamant nature let Entei hit as hard as possible. Maximum Speed EVs are used to outspeed base 85 Speed Pokemon such as Nidoking and Heracross, as well as Speed tie with other neutral-natured base 100 Speed Pokemon. Life Orb can be used to deal heavy damage while allowing Entei to switch moves, although Entei then takes slight damage after every attacking move. Choice Band can be used as an alternative to Life Orb to OHKO bulkier Pokemon such as Diggersby and 2HKO Porygon2 after Stealth Rock at the cost of Entei losing the ability to switch moves. Usage Tips As Entei has both good coverage moves and a STAB attack that can wear down Pokemon quickly through a burn, it can be sent out at any given time. It can be used early-game to wallbreak and burn its checks for late-game. Entei's access to Extreme Speed means it can also be used as a late-game sweeper. Although Entei's decent bulk allows it to easily shrug off most non-super effective hits, it should avoid taking unnecessary damage, as it does not have a reliable form of recovery. Furthermore, Entei can easily get worn down through entry hazard damage, Life Orb recoil, and other forms of chip damage. It should be careful of being hit by status, as poison can make it difficult for Entei to wallbreak and will wear it down very fast. As Sacred Fire has a good chance to burn, it is pretty easy to spam, but one should be aware of its limited PP. Entei is especially good against Flying-type teams due to having access to Stone Edge in conjunction with Sacred Fire's chance to burn. Team Options Entei and Mega Charizard Y are good partners for each other, as Entei can wear down bulky specially defensive Pokemon such as Chansey, while Mega Charizard Y can take down bulky Water- and Ground-type Pokemon that usually wall Entei. Mega Charizard Y also sets up sun for Entei, which allows it to almost always OHKO Clefable with a Choice Band-boosted Sacred Fire and take Water-type attacks better. Mega Charizard Y can also run Defog to get rid of entry hazards for Entei, which, in conjunction with Life Orb recoil, can easily wear down Entei. Torkoal is a very reliable Rapid Spin user with the ability to set up its own Stealth Rock. Darmanitan and Entei work well together, as Darmanitan can wear down Pokemon easily, allowing Entei to KO them with Extreme Speed. Darmanitan can also pivot with U-turn to find opportunities to bring Entei in. Volcarona appreciates Entei's wallbreaking capability, as it can set up a sweep late-game. Infernape and Entei work well together, as Infernape can run Earthquake or Stone Edge, allowing Entei to use another move in place of Stone Edge or Bulldoze. Rotom-H is a good teammate, as it checks physically defensive Water-type Pokemon that Entei cannot defeat, such as Suicune and Slowbro. Rotom-H can also pivot with Volt Switch and find opportunities for Entei to switch in.

Moves Sacred Fire is Entei's go-to attacking move and has a chance to cripple the target with a burn. Stone Edge is used to hit Mega Charizard Y and Talonflame primarily. The third moveslot is for Extreme Speed, which allows Entei to become a strong late-game cleaner, because its +2 priority allows it to outspeed other priority users, such as Talonflame and Bisharp. Protect is a staple move in Doubles. It is used to stall out field conditions, allowing Entei to defend itself while its partner deals with a threat and to scout for the opponent's moves, among many other uses. Set Details The EV spread maximizes Entei's Attack and Speed. Adamant is used to obtain maximum power, while Jolly allows it to Speed tie with fully invested base 100 Speed Pokemon, such as Mega Kangaskhan. However, keep in mind that a Jolly nature is illegal when using Extreme Speed. Unfortunately, Flash Fire isn't released, so Pressure has to be used. Safety Goggles is chosen as the item to allow Entei to ignore the effects of powder moves, such as Spore, Sleep Powder, and Rage Powder. This allows Entei to check typical users of such moves, such as Breloom, Amoonguss, and Venusaur. Usage Tips Entei is good at specific endeavors, such as burning Mega Kangaskhan and removing Mega Charizard Y. Entei is best used in the early-game, when it can spam Sacred Fire and fish for burns. Over the course of the game, the burn damage will stack up, which helps Entei KO the foe later in the game. Sacred Fire's massive burn chance can also help Entei get past Focus Sash users like Bisharp and Weavile. Entei can also come into a predicted Spore or Sleep Powder, and considering powder users are generally Grass- and Bug-types, it can immediately threaten the user. Team Options Entei is a strong sun counter, so Pokemon that have trouble dealing with that archetype, such as Kyurem-B, can make for great partners. Entei is also great at removing Grass-types from the field. Water-types such as Keldeo and Suicune can take advange of that and further support Entei with their moves, as together they have strong offensive synergy. Entei can't reliably deal with Heatran and Ground-types, so Pokemon that can deal with those threats are appreciated; again, Water-types such as Suicune and Keldeo are good at this. Wide Guard users such as Aegislash are appreciated, as they can stop Earthquake, Rock Slide, or Muddy Water from hitting Entei. Entei has a lot of trouble with Water-types because it has no meaningful way of damaging them; therefore, Grass- and Electric-types that can beat Water-types make for great partners. Thundurus and Amoonguss are good examples; the former provides speed control with Thunder Wave, hits hard with Thunderbolt, and can also beat Mega Diancie with Flash Cannon, while the latter provides redirection with Rage Powder and boasts the ability to put threats to sleep with Spore.

Moves Sacred Fire is almost impossible to switch into thanks to burns and its insane power backed by Tinted Lens. Extreme Speed is great with Tinted Lens, as it allows Entei to revenge kill threats it normally can't, such as Chlorophyll Heatran and Scizor. It is also capable of cleaning in a pinch. Stone Edge is the first filler move, hitting Fire-types and Flash Fire Aegislash for decent damage, while Facade is another filler move that will hit pretty hard in case you switch Entei into a status move. Iron Head can OHKO Diancie and hit Rock-types super effectively, while Flare Blitz is an option for extra power, notably OHKOing Latios and 2HKOing Diancie. Set Details The EV spread and Adamant nature allow Entei to outspeed anything up to Timid nature maximum Speed Rotom-A and hit as hard as possible. Tinted Lens allows this set to hit Pokemon that resist its moves for double damage, so pokemon that otherwise 1/2 resist its moves take neutral damage. This allows Entei to hit typical switch-ins very hard. Choice Band is preferred for better longevity and wallbreaking power. This set hits a lot of normal checks for massive damage and can revenge kill some threats it can't otherwise touch such as the aforementioned Chlorophyll Heatran. It can also 3HKO Suicune and can burn it if its Toxic Orb hasn't yet activated. Usage Tips This Entei performs as a wallbreaker rather than a revenge killer and loves to find opportunities to spam high-powered attacks and leave holes in the opponent's team. This set is one that shouldn't be played recklessly; it just wants to attempt to destroy the opponent's team whenever it can get in safely. Entei is great at spreading burns even when there are Pokemon that can take its hits, so Sacred Fire is extremely useful despite its low PP. Scouting Flash Fire and Primordial Sea users, such as Ferrothorn, is very important for its success. Use the switches Entei forces to punch holes in the opposition. Team Options Entei needs team support to beat Flash Fire Steel-types and Primordial Sea users; until these are eliminated Entei is generally not very effective. Magnet Pull users that don't mind Flash Fire Steel-types make good partners. The Tinted Lens set greatly appreciates Drought support to further power up its Sacred Fire. A Flash Fire Doublade switch-in, such as Mandibuzz, is recommended. This set is best paired with entry hazard stackers, such as Deoxys-S, and also likes hazard control from Defog users such as Gale Wings Skarmory. Gale Wings Skarmory is also a great partner because it can clean behind the carnage created by Entei. Magic Bounce users are good to prevent momentum loss against foes such as Flash Fire Ferrothorn, which may attempt to set hazards as Entei switches out. Pairing this up with another Tinted Lens user, especially one that normally gets Steel-types to switch-in, can create a deadly wallbreaking core. Tinted Lens Latios does exactly this.

Moves Extreme Speed is the primary move on the set, capable of revenge killing Gale Wings users and Dragons that plague the tier. It packs a solid punch and dents potential switch-ins as well. Sacred Fire is very powerful while having a nasty burn chance, making it a deadly STAB move. The burn chance makes Entei extremely hard to switch into unless the switch-in is immune to burns, as most Pokemon in AAA don't want to be burned. Stone Edge hits Victini and other Fire-types, which are immune to the burns from Sacred Fire and resist both main moves. The 4th slot is a filler move. Will-O-Wisp burns potential switch-ins and Primordial Sea users, while Iron Head hits Rock-types such as Diancie. Bulldoze is an option for pseudo-EdgeQuake coverage and hits Steel-types for decent damage, and Facade hits very hard if Entei becomes paralyzed or poisoned. Set Details The EV spread and nature maximize Entei's power and speed, and will allow it to outspeed everything up to max Speed Rotom-A. Life Orb is the preferred item; this Entei likes to switch moves easily and isn’t afraid of being worn down as it cleans. Choice Band is an option to mitigate recoil, but locks you into a move, which is generally less desirable on this set. An Adamant nature is required for the use of Extreme Speed. Usage Tips This Entei is best used as a revenge killer and cleaner against opposing offensive teams. Its firepower and coverage hit a wide variety of threats, making it very dangerous when used correctly. However, it has limited longevity with Life Orb, so it would rather not switch into attacks. If you can outspeed and safely KO the opponent, Sacred Fire should be used to spread burns across opposing teams and hammer switch-ins. Victini also tries to switch in somewhat often, as it resists both of Entei's primary moves, so Stone Edge will nearly OHKO it for the rest of the team. Sacred Fire has low PP, so be wary of it in the case Entei's Life Orb gets knocked off or you choose to run Choice Band. It's a good idea to scout Flash Fire and Primordial Sea users before you spam Sacred Fire; this will keep you from losing momentum in the case one of them switches in. On the other hand, Sacred Fire is very dangerous before Poison Heal users have activated their Toxic Orb, so Entei is very good in the early game against teams that use Poison Heal Pokemon to wall Entei. This set is very good at cleaning once its checks and counters have been eliminated. Team Options Entei appreciates entry hazard support as a cleaner especially, and Deoxys-S does this wonderfully for offensive teams. Strong Electric- and Grass-types that handle Suicune make great partners, as well as Illusion users that can bait it in. Magnet Pull users that don't mind Flash Fire make good partners as well. Entei needs hazard removal, so Magic Bounce users are good teammates to prevent opposing Flash Fire Pokemon from setting hazards as it switches out. Entei also loves wallbreakers, especially those that bait Steel-types. Tinted Lens Latios is an outstanding partner for baiting in and KOing Steel-types while being able to remove hazards with Defog. Outside of Flash Fire Steel-types that can be trapped, Doublade is OHKOed by Mold Breaker Victini, another good partner. Doublade counters such as Mandibuzz are great for Entei as well.

Moves Sacred Fire is Entei's strongest STAB move and has a 50% chance to burn the opposing Pokemon, which helps neutralize physical attackers. Snarl lowers the foe's Special Attack, making it a great move to stop special attackers from dealing too much damage. Stone Edge picks up KOs on Flying- and Fire-types, especially Talonflame and Charizard. Iron Head deals super effective damage to Fairy- and Rock-types such as Sylveon and Terrakion. Protect is a staple in Battle Spot Doubles, as it allows Entei to avoid taking hits it doesn't want to take. Set Details 252 HP EVs give Entei bulk to take hits better. 236 Attack EVs and an Adamant nature are used so that Entei can hit really hard. 20 Speed EVs make Entei peak a Speed stat of 123, letting it outspeed Adamant Bisharp, allowing Sacred Fire to secure an OHKO. Leftovers give Entei a form of recovery. Usage Tips Entei is very good at staying on the field, crippling foes by either Snarling special attackers or trying to burn physical attackers with Sacred Fire. Entei can easily deal a ton of damage thanks to its good base Attack. Team Options Entei works very well with Fake Out users, as they can make Entei's biggest threats flinch. A good Fake Out user is Scrafty. Meanwhile, Entei can go for either Snarl or Sacred Fire to neutralize the biggest threat on the other side of the field. Tailwind also helps Entei a lot, as outspeeding opposing Pokemon is always good. Entei has great synergy with Suicune, as it has access to Tailwind, allowing Entei to outspeed many threats. Suicune can also deal with Rock- and Ground-types that threaten Entei, which is a huge advantage. Entei can also form a bulky core with Fire-, Water-, and Grass-types, together with Pokemon like Suicune, Miltoic, Amoonguss, and Mega Venusaur.

Moves Sacred Fire is Entei's main move, capable of dealing good damage and inflicting burns. Stone Edge helps against predicted Flash Fire users and Fire-types such as Talonflame switching in. Bulldoze lowers the foe's Speed and is the best move against Heatran. Iron Head is mostly a filler, but can deal a lot of damage against Tyranitar, Clefable, and Mega Altaria. Set Details Choice Band, an Adamant nature, and maximum Attack investment allow Entei to hit as hard as possible. A Jolly nature can be used instead to outspeed Lucario and Kangaskhan before they Mega Evolve. Maximum Speed EVs allow Entei to outspeed everything up to positive-natured base 86 Pokemon. If you want more bulk, a spread of 132 HP / 252 Atk / 52 Def / 52 SpD / 20 Spe can be used instead. Usage Tips Sacred Fire is the move you will be using the most, as it is Entei's main STAB and can spread burns. Many strong physical attackers like Kangaskhan can OHKO Entei but do not want to switch into Sacred Fire for fear of a burn. Be wary of Flash Fire users and Pokemon that resist Sacred Fire. Pokemon that can use these resistances to their advantage and set up on Entei, such as Dragon Dance Mega Charizard X, are particularly dangerous. Entei is effective at crippling the opponent's team early with burns and damage. It is generally best to bring Entei in after a Pokemon has been KOed or into a resisted attack. Leading with Entei is not a good idea because it has poor matchups against many common leads, like Garchomp. Garchomp often carries Lum Berry, neutering Entei's Sacred Fire even further. Team Options Bulky Water-types such as Rotom-W and Suicune can cover Entei's weakness to Ground- and Rock-types and deal with opposing Fire-types. Grass-types, especially the ones that can deal with bulky Water-types, can help round out coverage; Breloom in particular is a good teammate for Entei because it helps get rid of Dark-, Rock-, and Water-types such as Hydreigon, Tyranitar, and Rotom-W and also provides Spore support. However, it should be noted that Breloom's Spore can conflict with Entei's Sacred Fire. Fairy-types such as Sylveon, Togekiss, Gardevoir, Whimsicott, and Azumarill benefit from Entei's ability to deal with Steel-types. Togekiss also helps Entei thanks to its immunity to Ground-types. Porygon2 is a good defensive teammate for Entei and is a good check to Intimidate users if running Trace. Mega Salamence appreciates Entei's ability to deal with Ice-types.

Moves Sacred Fire is the main STAB attack of this set, dealing solid damage with a 50% chance to burn the target. This can make checks such as Garchomp, Kangaskhan, and Tyranitar think twice before switching in. Sacred Fire can eliminate Pokemon such as Aegislash, Serperior, Weavile, and Mega Mawile. Stone Edge hits Fire-types that resist Sacred Fire, such as Talonflame or Mega Charizard Y. Bulldoze punishes Heatran with heavy damage and a Speed drop. Flame Charge, although weak, can raise Entei's speed to help it sweep, whereas Iron Head deals more damage to Rock- and Fairy-types such as Tyranitar, Clefable, and Mega Altaria. Set Details Assault Vest takes advantage of Entei's natural bulk and ability to spread burns with Sacred Fire. This allows it to switch into attacks such as Sylveon's or Gardevoir's Hyper Voice with relative ease. Maximum Attack EVs and an Adamant nature allow Entei to hit as hard as possible, while the HP and Defense EVs give Entei good general bulk. In particular, 132 HP and 52 Defense EVs allow Entei to survive a Double-Edge from Adamant Mega Salamence. 52 Special Defense EVs, coupled with Assault Vest, give Entei a little special bulk to tank some weak hits and allows it to survive a Draco Meteor from Modest Choice Specs Hydreigon. 20 Speed EVs allow neutral nature Entei to outspeed Adamant Bisharp and Breloom, and after one Flame Charge, base 115 Pokemon by one point. Usage Tips Spamming Sacred Fire is generally the best way to use Entei, unless you predict a Flash Fire user or Fire-type switch-in. However, if the foe is low on health, KOing it with Flame Charge can help Entei avoid getting revenge killed. Assault Vest allows Entei to switch into resisted attacks fairly easily. Similarly, Entei's immunity to Will-O-Wisp allows it to switch into many Ghost-types, such as Aegislash, Gengar, and Sableye. Team Options Bulky Water-types such as Rotom-W and Suicune can cover Entei's Rock- and Ground-type weaknesses and are better able to deal with opposing Fire-types. Garchomp and Landorus are also good partners for this reason. Landorus in particular can come in on Ground-type moves aimed at Entei. Thundurus can help Entei against bulky Water-types, and it can also prevent Pokemon such as Mega Charizard X and Mega Salamence from setting up on Entei by neutralizing them with Prankster Thunder Wave. Grass-types such as Serperior, Mega Venusaur, and Breloom can help cover Entei's Rock-, Ground- and Water-type weaknesses as well. Gengar is a good teammate for Entei because of its immunity to Ground-type moves and ability to take advantage of burned foes with Hex. Hydreigon has good type synergy with Entei and appreciates Entei's ability to threaten Fairy-types. Cresselia can come in on Garchomp or Landorus-T's Earthquake and threaten it with Ice Beam.

Moves Substitute allows Entei to rack up damage from burns and poison, as well as PP stall with Pressure. It also blocks status moves such as Toxic and Thunder Wave. Protect helps stall longer, while scouting the opponent. Toxic poison deals more residual damage compared to burn, and thus is useful against walls. It shuts down defensive Pokemon such as Cresselia, Zapdos, Porygon2, and Rotom-W. Sacred Fire is Entei's only attacking move and can burn the foe. Set Details 252 Speed EVs and a Jolly nature allow Entei to get the jump on Mamoswine and more effectively set up Substitute. 20 HP EVs give maximum Leftovers recovery while maintaining as much Attack as possible. Leftovers, along with Protect, helps Entei increase its longevity and recover health lost by Substitute. This set capitalizes on Entei's ability, Pressure, through the use of Substitute and Protect. Usage Tips This set is best used after the Pokemon that threaten Entei are gone, as it is easy for Pokemon such as Suicune to set up on it. Once the threat of such boosters is gone, it is particularly effective against stall and defensive teams. This set is somewhat susceptible to Taunt due to its reliance on non-attacking moves. Fast Substitutes and Protect can be used to PP stall with Pressure and rack up damage from Toxic or burn. Team Options Bulky Water-, Fairy-, and Grass-types are generally good teammates because they can cover Entei’s weaknesses. Pokemon such as Calm Mind Suicune and Belly Drum Azumarill can take advantage of Entei’s ability to cripple the foe. Pokemon with the ability to check bulky Water-types, such as Rotom-W, Mega-Venusaur, and Thundurus, are useful teammates for Entei. Strong sweepers such as Mega Kangaskhan appreciate Entei's ability to weaken the foe and give it an opportunity to come in and sweep. Mega Mawile appreciates the synergy and support that Entei offers; Entei can take Will-O-Wisps and Fire-type moves and handle threats such as Ferrothorn and opposing Mega Mawile.

Thanks to its massive HP, respectable defenses, and access to Calm Mind, Entei is a formidable boosting sweeper in UU. What makes this set so great is Entei's ability to create 101 HP Substitutes, which means it can set up against the likes of Clefable. Furthermore, it also has the Speed to outrun most other walls. Calm Mind is not too shabby on a Pokemon with base 90 Special Attack, and combined with a powerful Fire-type STAB, Entei is quite the force to be reckoned with. Flamethrower provides Entei with a powerful STAB move, and Hidden Power Grass is used to hit Water- and Rock-types super effectively. The EVs on this set are fairly simple: 136 HP EVs ensure Entei can set up 101 HP Substitutes, and maximum Speed is used to tie with base 100 Speed Pokemon. The remaining EVs are placed in Special Attack, giving Entei some firepower. A more offensive set can be used without Substitute, and this allows Entei to invest more in its attacking stats. Stone Edge is viable with a Naive nature, and it provides excellent coverage with Entei's Fire-type STAB. Hidden Power Rock is another decent choice to hit opposing Fire-types, though Entei is forced to use a Speed IV of 30. Lava Plume can be used over Flamethrower for its higher burn rate, but Flamethrower's higher power is appreciated on an offensive set like this. Due to Entei's typing, it needs support in the form of Rapid Spin. Sandslash is a great choice as it can remove entry hazards with Rapid Spin, set up Stealth Rock, and switch into Rock-type moves which Entei is weak to. Hitmonlee is another decent choice as it can break through Snorlax and Rock-types, and its powerful STAB moves force a lot of switches. Support from entry hazards is also helpful, especially Toxic Spikes, which help wear down Snorlax and bulky Water-types. Roserade can set up Toxic Spikes, sponge Water-type moves, and incapacitate an opponent with Sleep Powder. Claydol can set up Stealth Rock, switch into Rock-type moves, and utilize Rapid Spin to support its team. Without Hidden Power Rock or Stone Edge, Entei has trouble with Altaria and defensive Zapdos, so a teammate that can take them out is recommended. Aggron can set up Rock Polish and KO them with Head Smash, while Weavile can outspeed them and maim them with Ice Punch. Defensive walls, such as Snorlax and Cresselia, are troublesome too, so a way to break through them is helpful. A strong Fighting-type, such as Hitmonlee, can KO Snorlax, while Dark- and Bug-types, such as Krookodile, Scyther, Drapion, and Honchkrow, can take out Cresselia. Grass-types are also decent partners, as they can take out Ground-, Rock-, and Water-types; Lilligant and Roserade are fine choices.

The idea behind this set is pretty simple: set up Sunny Day, and proceed to pummel the opponent with boosted Fire-type moves and Solar Beam. Calm Mind is used to raise Entei's Special Attack and Special Defense, and turns it into an offensive powerhouse in the sun. The choice between Flamethrower or Fire Blast is down to personal preference; Flamethrower has more PP and higher accuracy, but Fire Blast provides extra power. Solar Beam helps provide coverage against Water-, Rock-, and Ground-types, and it doesn't need a turn to charge when the sun is active. A Life Orb provides Entei with more power right off the bat, while Heat Rock can be used to prolong the sun. Hidden Power Ice or Hidden Power Rock can be used to hit Altaria and Zapdos; however, Hidden Power Rock lowers Entei's Speed IV to 30, which means it'll lose out on the Speed tie with other base 100 Speed Pokemon. Lava Plume can be used in the third slot for a higher burn rate, though the loss in power is noticeable in the long run. Teammates that can set up entry hazards are appreciated. Roserade can set up Toxic Spikes and KO Entei's counters, Claydol can set up Stealth Rock and utilize Rapid Spin, and Qwilfish can set up Spikes and cripple an opponent with Thunder Wave. Entei is weak to Stealth Rock, so a Pokemon that can support it with Rapid Spin is helpful. Hitmontop and Claydol are decent choices, and they both have powerful STAB moves to dent the opponent with. Pokemon that can take advantage of the sun are decent partners. Exeggutor can abuse Chlorophyll and power through the opponent's team, while other Fire-types, such as Darmanitan, can blast through the opponent's team with sun-boosted STAB moves. Water-types also make great teammates, as they can remove opposing Fire-types that resist Solar Beam and Fire-type moves. Suicune and Azumarill are great choices, and they have enough bulk to switch into powerful attacks as well. Ground-types are also decent choices thanks to their STAB Earthquake; Rhyperior also has a massively powerful STAB Stone Edge. Due to this set's special-attacking nature, Pokemon such as Snorlax can be troublesome. Powerful Fighting-types, such as Hitmonlee, are good choices to remove them. Grass-types, such as Shaymin and Tangrowth, can defeat the Ground-, Rock-, and Water-types that stand in Entei's way. They also have access to Leech Seed to cripple Cresselia and Snorlax, or Sleep Powder or Grass Whistle to incapacitate an opponent.

What makes Entei such an amazing physical sweeper is its high Attack stat, immunity to Will-O-Wisp, and respectable bulk. Flare Blitz is Entei's most powerful move; a 120 Base Power STAB move coming off a base Attack of 115 is going to hurt anything that doesn't resist it. Extreme Speed gives Entei a priority move to pick off weakened Pokemon, and it gives Entei something to smack around faster Pokemon with. Stone Edge is the main reason to use Entei over Arcanine, as it allows Entei to hit Fire- and Flying-types, namely Moltres and opposing Arcanine, super effectively. Finally, Hidden Power Grass can KO Quagsire and Omastar, Toxic can cripple the bulkier walls which Entei can't break, and Flame Charge can be used to raise Entei's Speed to outrun most of the unboosted tier. The item choice is down to personal preference: Choice Band provides Entei with more power, while Life Orb allows it to switch between moves. The downside to using a Life Orb is that Entei already takes recoil damage from Flare Blitz, and the added Life Orb recoil means it won't survive for very long. Sleep Talk and Will-O-Wisp are two support options to use in the last slot, turning Entei into a sleep absorber, or giving it something to cripple physical attackers with, respectively. Iron Head and Bulldoze give Entei a move to hit Rock-types with, but those moves generally have poor coverage. Return is another physical option, though it's mainly a filler that provides neutral coverage. Due to Flare Blitz and Extreme Speed being event moves, Entei is forced to use an Adamant nature, which holds it back in the Speed department. To cover for this, a more defensive spread can be used to take hits, or a Choice Scarf can be used to outrun more threats. As Flare Blitz and Life Orb will be causing so much recoil, support from Rapid Spin is needed to remove Stealth Rock. Hitmontop is a great choice, as it can use Foresight to hit Ghost-types and switch into Rock-type moves aimed at Entei. Blastoise is another good partner as it can switch into Water-type moves and has access to Scald, which has the chance to burn physical attackers, such as Golurk. Entei also appreciates entry hazards on the opponent's side of the field, which weaken Pokemon that switch in and attempt to wall it. Pokemon that can switch into Entei's weaknesses, especially those that maintain offensive pressure, are helpful. For example, Empoleon can switch into Rock- and Water-type moves aimed at Entei and put pressure onto the opponent; unfortunately, it shares a Ground-type weakness with Entei. Flygon is another example of an offensive Pokemon that can switch into Rock- and Water-type moves, and it can also utilize U-turn to force switches.
