Analysis
Set Details Giga Drain offsets Life Orb recoil and keeps Venusaur healthy enough to keep attacking while letting it threaten walls like Gligar and Houndstone. Weather Ball offers great coverage that prevents Steel-types like Copperajah, Bronzong, and Duraludon from switching in safely. Sludge Bomb hits Fairy- and Grass-types including Sylveon, Florges, and Whimsicott, while Earth Power targets Fire- and Poison-types such as Paldean Tauros-F, Chandelure, Incineroar, Toxicroak, and Overqwil. A Modest nature maximizes damage output, whereas a Timid nature lets Venusaur outspeed key Choice Scarf users under the sun like Infernape and Grafaiai. Tera Fire further boosts Weather Ball's power, improving Venusaur's matchup against Steel-types while also reaching important damage benchmarks it can miss otherwise, such as OHKOing Cinccino and maximum HP Wo-Chien. Defensively, Tera Fire helps Venusaur against Pokemon such as Paldean Tauros-F and Infernape while removing its Flying weakness, which can help against Galarian Articuno. Tera Ground is used on sets with Earth Power to better handle Fire- and Poison-types such as Incineroar, Toxicroak, and Overqwil while also giving Venusaur a useful Thunder Wave immunity against Klefki. Venusaur requires manual sun support, so Sunny Day users such as Uxie, Klefki, and Whimsicott provide consistent sun and create setup opportunities with fast priority and great utility moves like Memento, Thunder Wave, and Encore. Pivots such as Tornadus and Kilowattrel can bring Venusaur in safely against targets like Vaporeon and Bellibolt, while entry hazard support from Klefki, Uxie, Swampert, and Gligar helps put bulky Pokemon such as Goodra, Incineroar, and Duraludon into range of Venusaur's attacks, which is especially valuable with limited sun turns. Scovillain is especially useful alongside Venusaur, as it threatens Steel-types like Copperajah and Duraludon while also putting heavy pressure on specially defensive Fire-resistant Pokemon, with Choice Specs Fire Blast in sun 3HKOing Leftovers Goodra and specially defensive Incineroar. Brute Bonnet is another valuable sun partner, as its physical power helps break through special walls such as Chansey that Venusaur heavily struggles with, and its Sucker Punch also lets it clean once Venusaur has weakened faster offensive teams. In return, Venusaur pressures Pokemon such as Paldean Tauros-W, Gligar, and Scrafty. Setup sweepers such as Calm Mind Scream Tail, Dragon Dance Flygon, and Swords Dance Scyther also appreciate Venusaur weakening shared checks like Bronzong and Gligar.
