Pawmot Movesets & Competitive Sets

Pawmot finds a niche over other Fighting-type wallbreakers such as Paldean Tauros-F and Heracross thanks to its great STAB combination that hits Pokemon like Milotic and Cramorant; wide variety of coverage and utility options; great Speed; and useful abilities. It is also the only physical Electric-type in the tier. Ice Punch provides coverage for defensive Grass-types such as Amoonguss and Venusaur as well as Golurk, and it also does more damage to other Pokemon like Colbur Berry or itemless Palossand. Knock Off provides utility by removing items from Pokemon like Galarian Slowbro and Mudsdale while still providing coverage for Ghost-types such as Golurk and Palossand. Pawmot has a wide variety of options in for its final moveslot; Mach Punch gives Pawmot valuable priority against weakened attackers and Choice Scarf users such as Zoroark, Ambipom, and Rotom-Cut. Rest should be paired with Natural Cure takes advantage of Pokemon that Pawmot forces to switch out like Bombirdier and Milotic. Finally, Volt Switch allows Pawmot to pivot against Pokemon like Goodra and Rotom-Heat and should be run with Heavy-Duty Boots. Life Orb allows Pawmot to achieve rolls such as having a chance to 2HKO Assault Vest Galarian Slowbro with Knock Off and OHKOing Delphox with Double Shock, but Heavy-Duty Boots lets it switch in more safely. Iron Fist boosts the power of Ice Punch and Mach Punch, but Natural Cure naturally pairs well with Rest and can allow Pawmot to recover from burn and poison. It should should be used when not running Ice Punch or Mach Punch. Volt Absorb can allow Pawmot to operate as an Electric immunity for its team, but this is generally not needed, and its other abilities are more viable. Tera Electric boosts the power of Double Shock, allowing Pawmot to OHKO Skuntank and Milotic, and makes the move spammable thanks to cancelling out the type loss from Double Shock. It also provides a useful Flying resistance, which is helpful against Pokemon like Choice Scarf Bombirdier. Pawmot finds itself on offense and balance teams looking for a strong wallbreaker that can also function as a utility Pokemon with Knock Off, pivoting, and revenge killing. Pawmot struggles to break through certain physical walls such as Amoonguss, Palossand, and Mudsdale, so checks to these threats like Galarian Slowbro and Wo-Chien make excellent partners. Pawmot appreciates entry hazard control from Pokemon like Cramorant, Tatsugiri, and Coalossal due to it switching out often due to Double Shock, especially if it is running Life Orb. Pawmot's ability to revenge kill Pokemon like Paldean Tauros-F, Delphox, and Bruxish means that walls checked by these threats like Alolan Sandslash and Florges are excellent partners.

Pawmot is a great Choice Scarf user on Electric teams by virtue of its coverage and utility, being able to deal with Chien-Pao and Flutter Mane. With Revival Blessing, Pawmot can give second chances to fallen offensive Pokemon such as Iron Hands and Choice Specs Zapdos to punch holes in opposing teams. Double Shock allows Pawmot to OHKO threats such as Flutter Mane and Azumarill as well as finishing off Iron Valiant, but this comes with the downside of Pawmot immediately being forced out after using the move. Ice Punch allows Pawmot to deal decent damage to Ground-types that resist both its STAB moves, notably OHKOing both Landorus formes as well as 2HKOing both Iron Leaves and Clodsire. Volt Switch allows Pawmot to pivot out of a check such as Amoonguss into one of its teammates to deal with it. Magnezone is a great partner, being able to threaten the Fairy-types that can threaten Pawmot such as Hatterene and Flutter Mane.

Pawmot is a great wallbreaker on Electric teams, outspeeding foes like Garchomp, Landorus, and Sandy Shocks. Close Combat does not receive the benefits of Pawmot's ability and item, but it helps beat pesky foes like Ursaluna-B, Hisuian Goodra, and Baxcalibur, which are immune to or resist its Electric-type attacks. Close Combat is also a good move to beat foes like Ting-Lu and Hisuian Goodra which Pawmot's teammates might struggle against. Thunder Punch is an alternative STAB move, as it hits common walls like Corviknight and Toxapex while also threatening Pelipper on rain teams, thus preventing the opponent from setting up rain for Barraskewda repeatedly. Thunder Punch also helps versus Belly Drum Azumarill, preventing it from setting up. Mach Punch is Pawmot's preferred second STAB move, as it offers strong priority, securing an OHKO on foes like Chien-Pao, Meowscarada, and Greninja after a single layer of Spikes. Mach Punch also nullifies Bisharp's Sucker Punch by outspeeding it with priority. Revival Blessing is another alternative that can be used over Mach Punch, as it offers a unique and valuable type of utility by allowing a teammate to be revived. This may prove to be a huge benefit in some matchups like the Electric mirror, where Pawmot can revive teammates like Sandy Shocks after the opposing Rotom-W is low on HP or has already fainted. Ice Punch hits foes like the Landorus formes, Gliscor, Clodsire, and mixed Amoonguss. The last coverage move is Seed Bomb, as it hits Pokemon like Gastrodon, Quagsire, and Rotom-W, which can prove troublesome for Pawmot's teammates to break. Seed Bomb also compounds with Thunder Punch to hit every Water-type in the game for super effective damage, making Pawmot incredibly powerful in the Water matchup. Punching Glove helps Pawmot avoid chip damage from Rocky Helmet on foes like Rough Skin Garchomp while also avoiding status effects like burn from foes like Flame Body Volcarona, Moltres, and Talonflame. Pawmot greatly benefits from teammates like Regieleki, which can use Rapid Spin to remove entry hazards for Pawmot and pivot well into other teammates with the help of Volt Switch. Regieleki's extremely high Speed tier also allows it to revenge kill foes like Enamorus, weakened Walking Wake, and, if using Magnet and Wild Charge, Flutter Mane. In return, Regieleki appreciates Pawmot dealing with Ground-type Pokemon, like Quagsire and Gliscor, with the help of Seed Bomb and Ice Punch due to Regieleki's lack of coverage moves. Iron Hands is another great teammate, as it allows Pawmot to run alternative sets, like Thunder Punch over Fighting-type STAB moves, since Iron Hands can run these moves in its stead. Assault Vest Iron Hands also has immense bulk and acts like a sponge for special attacks from foes like Choice Scarf Flutter Mane and Volcarona, which can cause great problems for Pawmot, since it is relatively frail. Iron Hands can also slow pivot into Pawmot with the help of Volt Switch. In return, Pawmot deals with walls like Quagsire and offensive Rotom-W, which Iron Hands may face difficulty in breaking. Sandy Shocks sets hazards like Stealth Rock and Spikes to boost Pawmot's wallbreaking potential by providing necessary chip on foes while also being able to provide a Ground immunity thanks to Air Balloon, thus behaving like a switch-in against foes like opposing Sandy Shocks, Choice Scarf Iron Treads, Gholdengo, and Skeledirge. In exchange, Pawmot helps break foes like the Landorus formes and Gliscor that wall Sandy Shocks completely. Pawmot also threatens foes like Baxcalibur, Dragonite, mixed Amoonguss, and Galarian Slowking, which can cause problems for Sandy Shocks. Rotom-W is an essential teammate for Pawmot, as it provides a much-needed Ground immunity while also offering great utility with its defensive sets that run Will-O-Wisp and Thunder Wave. Hydro Pump on Rotom-W deals with pesky Ground-types like Great Tusk and Mamoswine, which Pawmot struggles against. Defensive Rotom-W benefits from Pawmot's ability to take down foes like Water Absorb Clodsire and Gastrodon. Thus, together they form a strong core on Electric-type teams. Teammates like Thundurus, Thundurus-T and Zapdos provide a Ground immunity for Pawmot while also threatening strong Fighting-type foes like Zamazenta and Great Tusk. Zapdos can break these physically bulky Pokemon with the help of Hurricane, while Thundurus-T can use Psychic as a coverage move for Great Tusk, Zamazenta, and physically defensive Amoonguss. In return, they appreciate Pawmot's ability to break specially defensive walls that hinder Zapdos and Thundurus-T's wallbreaking capability. Thundurus provides great support with Prankster Thunder Wave, paralyzing fast foes like Dragapult and Flutter Mane and allowing Pawmot to outspeed them. Magnezone pairs well with Pawmot, as it can act like a sponge for Fairy-type moves from foes like Hatterene, Iron Valiant, and Flutter Mane and force them out with Flash Cannon. In return, Pawmot helps to break special walls like Galarian Slowking and Clodsire, which Magnezone can't break.

Using its STAB combination, Speed, coverage moves, and ability Iron Fist, Pawmot punches its way through Dark, Normal, Flying, and Dragon teams. Close Combat allows Pawmot to demolish Pokemon that its teammates may struggle with beating such as Blissey, Hisuian Goodra, and Ursaluna. Ice Punch targets Ground-, Dragon-, and Grass-types such as Garchomp, the Landorus formes, and Tapu Bulu. Thunder Punch alongside Ice Punch gives Pawmot perfect coverage to demolish Flying teams. Double Shock may be used as an alternative to Thunder Punch for more damage output that can enable Pawmot to OHKO Volcarona while Electric Terrain is up, though it can only be used once and forces Pawmot to switch out in order to use Double Shock again. Mach Punch picks off Sand Rush Excadrill, Meowscarada, Greninja, and Roaring Moon. Alternatively, Seed Bomb is an option that completes Pawmot's coverage against Water teams. Punching Glove provides a boost to Thunder Punch, Ice Punch, and Mach Punch while allowing Pawmot to avoid taking Rough Skin and Rocky Helmet damage when using Ice Punch against Garchomp. Expert Belt can be used to enhance Pawmot's wallbreaking capabilities, allowing Pawmot to OHKO Blissey, Ursaluna, defensive Garchomp, Gliscor, and Mega Swampert if utilizing Seed Bomb. Tapu Koko forms a nice offensive core with Pawmot that can overwhelm Dark, Flying, and Dragon teams. Tapu Koko also sets up Electric Terrain to amp up Pawmot's Electric-type STAB, giving Pawmot the potential to OHKO physically defensive Pokemon such as Slowbro, Corviknight, and Toxapex if using Double Shock and Expert Belt while Electric Terrain is up. In turn, Pawmot deals with specially defensive Pokemon such as Blissey, Hisuian Goodra, and Alolan Muk for Tapu Koko. Regieleki and Alolan Raichu are valuable teammates, as they provide speed control, with Alolan Raichu outspeeding Mega Aerodactyl, Mega Swampert under rain, and Sand Rush Excadrill while Electric Terrain is up. Special attackers in general such as Regieleki, Alolan Raichu, and Tapu Koko appreciate Pawmot dealing with specially defensive Pokemon. Pawmot likes having Zapdos and Rotom-W around as teammates due to their immunity to Ground-type attacks. Zapdos decimates Grass-types such as Mega Venusaur, Celebi, and Iron Leaves for Pawmot. Rotom-W provides a switch-in that helps ease the Ground matchup while providing entry hazard removal and pivoting support with Defog and Volt Switch. Pawmot helps Rotom-W deal with Ground-types through its coverage moves and can make progress against Ground-types Rotom-W can't beat such as Clodsire and Gastrodon.

This move is best when used with a Focus Sash, as Pawmot can paralyze the foe and outspeed it the next turn, getting another move off before it faints. Encore does a great job of punishing passive play, and prevents easy setup from slower defensive foes such as Garganacl. Fake Out can be used to get an edge against common Focus Sash leads such as Meowscarada.
