Crobat can afford options over Defog if it's on a highly offensive team or the team is packing hazard removal elsewhere. Toxic cripples bulky switch-ins like Umbreon, Milotic, and Rhyperior. Sets with Toxic prefer Infiltrator to hit Suicune behind its Substitute. Taunt can prevent Stealth Rock from Crobat's switch-ins, setup from Pokemon like Dragon Dance Flygon and Nasty Plot Togekiss, and recovery from walls like Milotic and Jellicent. Super Fang is great for weakening Steel- and Rock-type switch-ins like Registeel, Steelix, and Rhyperior. Taunt can be run over U-turn alongside Super Fang or Toxic; this makes Crobat very effective at beating bulky Pokemon like Registeel, Milotic, and Umbreon. Crobat likes to have a combination of bulk and Attack so that it is able to check Pokemon like Golisopod and Heracross as well as revenge kill Mimikyu and Lucario. The given EV spread KOs Mimikyu after Life Orb, Disguise, and Stealth Rock and it KOs -1 Lucario after Stealth Rock. 4 SpD EVs ensure that Download from Porygon-Z and Porygon2 boost Attack instead of Special Attack. If the team can cripple Grass-weak Pokemon via Knock Off or Toxic, Crobat can more afford the longevity of Roost, allowing it to accrue multiple boosts in the face of Registeel and Umbreon. Roost is also more justifiable alongside Hurricane, since boosted Hurricane hits Giga Drain targets like Jellicent, Gastrodon, and Seismitoad hard. Inner Focus prevents Choice Scarf Togekiss's Air Slash flinching. Xurkitree, Rotom-C, and Heliolisk can pivot on Grass-types like Roserade and Dhelmise for Crobat to set up Nasty Plot on. Ground-types like Nidoqueen, Steelix, and Flygon cover Crobat's Electric weakness. Grass-types and specially defensive Pokemon like Celebi, Roserade, and Registeel can also help check Electric-types. Nasty Plot Crobat weakening Steel-types like Registeel helps Pokemon like Mimikyu, Goodra, and Sharpedo, and they can weaken Steel-types themselves for Crobat. Dark- and Steel-types like Incineroar, Cosmic Power Metagross, and Escavalier check Reuniclus and Choice Scarf Gardevoir, though nearly any Steel-type is a good Gardevoir check. Crobat can double up with other Flying-types like Togekiss, Tornadus, and Sigilyph to exploit shared checks like Registeel, Raikou, and Rhyperior. Incineroar and Salazzle can cripple Water- and Rock-types with Knock Off or Toxic for non-Giga Drain Crobat, and Incineroar can outright take advantage of Jellicent. Toxic Rhyperior and Metagross are also good for crippling Water-types.

Moves Brave Bird is a powerful STAB move that allows Crobat to break through offensive teams. This move can also be turned into a powerful Supersonic Skystrike, which allows Crobat to have a better chance of revenge killing Pokemon such as Nidoking, Togekiss, and Lucario. Super Fang lets Crobat break down bulkier foes that resist Brave Bird like Mega Aggron, Mega Manectric, Empoleon, and Rhyperior. Taunt can allow Crobat to apply more pressure against Pokemon like Gligar, Blissey, and Hippowdon; when used in conjunction with Super Fang, preventing them from using their recovery moves as well as setting or removing entry hazards. Roost provides Crobat with a way to recover its health in order to consistently pivot into threats it needs to like Mega Altaria and also reduces the impact of its weakness to Stealth Rock. Set Details Maximum Attack and Speed investment allows Crobat to hit as hard as possible while being able to outspeed most of the unboosted metagame such as Latias, Celebi, and Infernape, making it a good revenge killer. Infiltrator is Crobat's best ability and allows it to bypass Substitute to revenge kill Gengar and Chandelure, as well as potentially pick off a weakened Kyurem and Suicune. A bulkier EV spread consisting of 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Spe can be used so that Crobat can pivot into Pokemon like Mega Altaria and Krookodile better. Crobat is a great response to Dragon Dance Mega Altaria by virtue of its Speed allowing it to outpace it even after a boost, so it should look to pivot into Mega Altaria frequently to prevent it from setting up freely and sweeping. Crobat should look to use Super Fang on a predicted switch after pivoting into Pokemon it can check such as Tsareena and the aforementioned Mega Altaria in order to whittle down checks that lack recovery like Mega Manectric, Mega Aggron, and Mega Steelix, which is vital due to them lacking a form of recovery. Crobat can also opt to prevent the latter two from potentially setting up Stealth Rock by using Taunt, but it could take a lot of damage in the process from Heavy Slam and Gyro Ball, so this shouldn't always be prioritized. It is also worth noting that both Mega Aggron and Mega Steelix carry Earthquake, which prevents Crobat being able to use Roost safely against them. By virtue of Crobat's typing, it can also find opportunities to use Super Fang by pivoting into Ground- and Fairy-types such as Gligar, Sylveon, and Florges that give Crobat the free turn needed to safely reduce an incoming target's health. Against more offensively inclined teams, it is best for Crobat to pivot into Pokemon it can check and force them out to find as many opportunities as possible to weaken Steel-types with Super Fang so that sweepers such as Mega Sharpedo and Scizor have an easier time breaking past them. Crobat should also use Supersonic Skystrike to heavily dent offensive threats like Feraligatr and Latias for other teammates to be able to revenge kill them easily. Crobat can also be worn down by Stealth Rock, so it is important for the entry hazard to be removed for Crobat to easily pivot into Pokemon like Mega Altaria and Tsareena. Team Options Crobat fits best on offensive teams that appreciate the utility it can provide as a good stallbreaker and Mega Altaria answer. Krookodile and Cobalion are good partners for Crobat, as they can provide Stealth Rock support, which helps Crobat OHKO Pokemon like Latias and Feraligatr with Supersonic Skystrike. Other entry hazard users like Klefki and Froslass can set up Spikes to drop Pokemon into KO range for Crobat, and in return, they appreciate Crobat being able to keep their entry hazards up with Taunt. Mega Sharpedo, Mega Altaria, Celebi, and Mimikyu appreciate Crobat being able to break down bulky Steel-types like Mega Aggron and Mega Steelix with Super Fang so that they have an easier time sweeping. Similarly, Crobat can wear down Ground-types such as Hippowdon, Quagsire, and Swampert for Mega Manectric and Rotom-H, which struggle to break past them. Entry hazard removers like Mega Altaria, Empoleon, and Starmie are great partners that alleviate Crobat's weakness to Stealth Rock. Mega Altaria can also check Mega Manectric and Zeraora, which outspeed and threaten to KO Crobat. Steel-types like Scizor and Doublade are great partners, as they can remove Pokemon like Mega Aerodactyl, which Crobat struggles to break past. The latter is also able to consistently pivot into Terrakion, which Crobat can't revenge kill from full HP. Gengar and the aforementioned Scizor appreciate Crobat being able to break past common stall Pokemon such as Blissey and Quagsire, giving them more opportunities to break through bulkier teams. Wallbreakers like Latias, Lucario, and Mamoswine work well alongside Crobat, as they appreciate its ability to wear down many defensive Pokemon such as Mega Steelix, Quagsire, and Rotom-H. Latias in particular appreciates Crobat's support and, in return, can break past other defensive Pokemon like Slowbro and Alomomola, which Crobat has issues dealing with.

Moves Brave Bird is a powerful, reliable STAB move that hits rather hard off the bat and OHKOes many Fighting- and Grass-types such as Mienshao, Machamp, Toxicroak, Infernape, Shaymin, Roserade, and Chesnaught, therefore completing Crobat's job of checking them. However, Acrobatics can be run without an item to take Knock Off better and by extension effectively counter Mega Beedrill. U-turn is valuable for the momentum it gains for the team, but can be omitted in favor of Toxic, which cripples walls and puts sweepers on a timer, or Taunt, which also cripples walls and can be used well in conjunction with Defog. Defog allows Crobat to clear entry hazards for your team. However, Taunt can be used on more offensive teams to keep foes from clearing away your own entry hazards with Defog and to cripple opposing walls. Finally, Roost is important in the last moveslot for reliable recovery and allowing Crobat to clear entry hazards and check Fighting- and Grass-types multiple times throughout the match. Set Details The given HP EVs maximize Crobat's HP while rounding down damage taken from Stealth Rock. 212 Speed EVs and a Jolly nature are enough to outspeed +1 Speed Adamant Feraligatr, a major threat. Crobat also outspeeds the entire unboosted metagame up to Timid Noivern. The rest of the EVs are placed in Defense to check physical Fighting-types and Mega Beedrill better. Sky Plate can be used with 252 EVs in Attack to have more offensive presence and can be useful on more offensively based teams. If countering Mega Beedrill is a priority, then no item and Acrobatics can be used to take less damage from its Knock Off. Infiltrator is the ability of choice to hit Pokemon that are behind a Substitute. Usage Tips This Crobat set serves as a check to the Fighting- and Grass-types in UU and controls entry hazards in the process, be it through Taunt or Defog. If using a variant with Defog, try to bring Crobat in on a Fighting- or Grass-type and Defog on the switch or gain momentum with U-turn. If using Taunt, bringing Crobat in against the opponent's Defogger or entry hazard setter via U-turn, Volt Switch, or a double switch is the best way to keep the foe from doing its respective job. Finally, Crobat can stallbreak to an extent by crippling foes with Taunt. Team Options Crobat fits well on balance, offense, and bulky offense teams that require entry hazard control or a check to Fighting- and Grass-types. Variants of Crobat carrying Taunt fit well on offensive teams, as they can keep your entry hazards on the field by using Taunt to prevent the foe from Defogging and can also be useful in keeping foes from setting entry hazards of their own. Crobat utilizing Defog works very well on balanced and bulky offense teams for its ability to clear away entry hazards multiple times throughout the course of the match. In terms of specific teammates, Swampert is notable for its good defensive synergy with Crobat, with Swampert taking on Rock- and Electric-types and Crobat beating Grass-types and Guts-using Fighting-types, such as Machamp.

Moves Brave Bird is a strong and reliable STAB move that is easy to spam and is useful for smashing offensive teams and cleaning late-game. U-turn is valuable for gaining momentum and wearing down Crobat's counters over the course of the match, especially when boosted by Choice Band. Cross Poison is a secondary STAB move that hits Electric- and Fairy-types slightly harder than Brave Bird does, and it has only a chance to OHKO Florges after Stealth Rock. Because of this, it can be omitted in favor of Defog for clearing entry hazards. Finally, the last moveslot is a toss-up between Defog, which can clear entry hazards for Crobat's team in a pinch, and Sleep Talk, which allows Crobat to absorb sleep-inducing moves. Set Details Full investment in Attack and Speed along with a Jolly nature maximizes Crobat's capabilities as a cleaner, revenge killer, and hard-hitter against offensive teams. Choice Band allows Crobat to punch major holes in offensive teams and deal heavy damage to any Pokemon that doesn't resist its powerful Brave Bird. Infiltrator helps Crobat hurt users of Substitute such as Substitute + Calm Mind Suicune and Substitute + Calm Mind Chandelure. Usage Tips This set serves as a check to Fighting- and Grass-types because of its great defensive typing and STAB Brave Bird. It also does heavy damage to offensive teams thanks to its great Speed and strength with Choice Band equipped. It also takes care of common of Substitute-using setup sweepers, such as Cobalion and Chandelure. Team Options Swampert is a good partner for Crobat thanks to their great defensive synergy together and the fact that it can set up Stealth Rock for Crobat, making Crobat's job of punching holes in the opponent's team easier. In return, Crobat can take care of troublesome Grass-types such as Shaymin, Roserade, and Chesnaught.

With a Choice Band attached, Crobat eschews its role as a defensive pivot and instead uses its speed and newfound power to become a swift, deadly assassin. Brave Bird is the core of the set, functioning as a powerful STAB move which allows Crobat to outspeed and OHKO a vast majority of offensive Pokemon in the tier. It also deters all but the most physically bulky Pokemon from safely switching in. U-turn allows Crobat to maintain momentum, and punishes physically bulky Pokemon by damaging them and then bringing them face-to-face with a counter. Cross Poison, while a poor move with limited coverage, is nonetheless Crobat's only option for covering the ubiquitous Electric-type Pokemon in UU. Note that Cross Poison's use is highly situational, as even a resisted Brave Bird 2HKOs offensive variants of Zapdos and Raikou after Stealth Rock. Super Fang is an option to strip 50% from the health of Bronzong, Rhyperior, Magneton, Registeel, and other physically bulky Pokemon which Crobat cannot otherwise harm. These Pokemon typically lack reliable recovery, giving the move substantial utility. The final slot is highly situational. Sleep Talk may seem like an odd choice, but several of the Pokemon Crobat enjoys switching into are Grass-types, and commonly pack Sleep Powder. Given the sleep mechanics in the current generation, Sleep Talk could be the difference between a useful Pokemon and death fodder. Roost is an option to alleviate the residual damage Crobat will be accumulating from Stealth Rock and Brave Bird recoil. It is best used to save Crobat from near-death, as using Roost will cost a substantial amount of momentum. Neither of Crobat's abilities are more than incidentally useful, but the choice is nevertheless worth discussing. Infiltrator allows Crobat to ignore Reflect, which could be very useful against dual screen hyper offense teams that rely on it to shield their frail sweepers. Inner Focus, on the other hand, dissuades Mienshao and Ambipom from using Fake Out, and also allows Crobat to beat Togekiss even while paralyzed. The choice of nature also has trade-offs: Jolly allows Crobat to outrun every Pokemon in the tier without Speed boosts, and a few Pokemon even with Speed boosts (such as slower variants of Dragon Dance Kingdra). Adamant, on the other hand, secures important OHKOs, such as against +1 Bulk Up Scrafty and max HP Togekiss after Stealth Rock. It also secures 2HKOs against physically defensive Slowbro and Swampert. The inability to outrun any Pokemon above base 115 Speed with an Adamant nature is a marked disadvantage, however. Crobat does not have many other options as its physical movepool is abysmal. Steel Wing might be tempting, but it barely scratches the Rock-types one would want to use it against. Giga Drain, on the other hand, scores a solid 2HKO on Rhyperior, Omastar, and Kabutops. All of these Pokemon would likely switch out before taking the second hit, however, and Giga Drain does very little to every other Pokemon likely to switch into Crobat. Pursuit is an option to damage fleeing Pokemon, but will do pitiful damage to any enemy that does not switch. Quick Attack is good for evading Sucker Punch and getting some damage on opposing sweepers that have boosted past what even Crobat can catch, but it's an incredibly weak move in general. Crobat enjoys exploiting its immunity to Ground and its 4x resistances to Fighting- and Grass-type attacks. Crobat's resistances allow it to switch in to some of the most common Pokemon in the tier, including Roserade, Hitmontop, Shaymin, Heracross, and Mienshao. Be wary of the coverage moves these Pokemon commonly carry, however. Crobat's minimal defensive investment means that moves like Stone Edge, Psychic, and Hidden Power Ice will do massive damage. Swampert is a natural teammate for Crobat, being able to switch easily into the Rock- and Electric-type attacks that plague Crobat. Crobat, in return, easily stomachs any Grass-type attack aimed at Swampert. Crobat also enjoys Rapid Spin support, and pairs well with both Blastoise and Hitmontop. It should be noted that Crobat does not have the power to sweep through healthy teams by itself, so it appreciates being paired with powerful attackers that can weaken the opposing team to the point where Crobat can use its speed to clean up. Flygon is a natural fit, if one does not mind the shared Ice-type weakness, as is Sharpedo.

This set works wonders on offensive and balanced teams in need of a solid response to stall teams. Its fantastic typing and nicely placed stats also allow it to check many prominent offensive threats, such as Roserade and various Fighting-types--most notably Mienshao, Heracross, and especially Scrafty, who remains slower than Crobat even after it uses Dragon Dance. This means that no matter what type of team you face, Crobat will always be useful in battle. Brave Bird is Crobat's best STAB move, and thanks to its high Base Power, it will do a good amount of damage to just about anything that doesn't resist it. Taunt allows Crobat to do its job as a stallbreaker by preventing the opponent from using non-damaging moves. Roost lets Crobat stick around for a while and somewhat alleviates its weakness to Stealth Rock. U-turn is a quality move on Crobat, as a lot of the time it forces switches, allowing you to grab the momentum of the battle. Toxic can be used because it hits a lot of Crobat's counters on the switch, such as Zapdos, Slowbro, and other bulky Water-types, and with Taunt preventing recovery, they are bound to get worn down pretty quickly. Finally, Super Fang is the only move Crobat has to damage Steel- and Rock-types, and much like Toxic, can also be used to wear down Pokemon until they are in Brave Bird's KO range. This set's EVs give Crobat enough Speed to outrun all base 115 Speed Pokemon, such as Azelf, allow it to OHKO 0/0 Scrafty with Stealth Rock damage factored in, prevent a beneficial Download boost for opposing Porygon2 and Porygon-Z, and the remainder get put in HP to optimize Crobat's bulk. The given spread is not set in stone though; you can always play around with it to suit your team's needs. For example, a bulkier spread of 252 HP / 116 Atk / 4 SpD / 136 Spe sacrifices Crobat's ability to OHKO 0/0 Scrafty in exchange for more bulk, while a stronger spread of 136 HP / 232 Atk / 4 SpD / 136 Spe guarantees the 2HKO on +1 Bulk Up Scrafty. Leftovers is an option over Black Sludge if you're worried about Crobat being on the receiving end of a Trick and then having another member of your team end up with the Black Sludge. Although it's very unlikely that the Trick user will have the opportunity to use it twice, so Black Sludge is usually the better choice. Hypnosis is also an option in the fourth moveslot, as it can potentially shut down one of Crobat's counters, especially when you consider the BW sleep mechanics. However, this option is generally unappealing because of its extremely shaky accuracy. Rapid Spin support from Blastoise, which can tank Ice-type moves while luring out Grass-types for Crobat to switch in on, is very much appreciated due to Crobat's weakness to Stealth Rock. As this set is completely walled by Steel-types, having a partner who can take advantage of them is a very good idea. One such partner would be Victini, which can easily come in on most Steel-types and blast them with its Fire-type STAB move of choice.

Moves Crobat's niche is primarily as a stallbreaker, as with Taunt, recovery in Roost, and its Toxic immunity, it can survive a long time against weaker attacks. Taunt prevents defensive Pokemon such as Blissey, Clefable, and Skarmory from statusing Crobat or healing. Should Crobat lead, it also stops Azelf and Hippowdon from setting up Stealth Rock. Brave Bird is Crobat’s primary tool for dealing damage. Its high base power somewhat makes up for Crobat's lack of Attack, and it chips bulkier Pokemon that do not resist it such as Gliscor, Hippowdon, and Flygon well. U-turn lets Crobat act as a pivot, letting teammates come in on its checks and chipping threats such as Tyranitar and Jirachi. Super Fang can also be used as an alternative to U-turn, as it allows Crobat to deal more reliable damage on bulky foes that resist Brave Bird, such as Zapdos, Metagross, and Heatran. However, this comes at the expense of Crobat’s pivoting capabilities. Set Details Running 144 Speed EVs puts Crobat at 365 speed, enough to outspeed +1 Tyranitar and maximum Speed Azelf and Starmie. The remaining EVs are placed in maximum HP and additional physical bulk. Crobat does not gain much out of extra Speed, as it will only Speed tie with Aerodactyl and Jolteon while outspeeding +1 Gyarados and Dragonite at maximum Speed—Pokemon Crobat cannot deal with effectively. 116 Defense EVs allow it to better deal with Fighting-types such as Infernape, Breloom, and Lucario. It specifically survives Lucario's +2 Extreme Speed after Stealth Rock. Usage Tips Crobat should generally lead or come in the game early before Stealth Rock is up to threaten Taunt or pivot around with U-turn. Be wary of stronger offensive threats such as Heatran or Zapdos coming in, however, as Crobat cannot deal with them and is forced out immediately. While Crobat is relatively difficult to OHKO, it should be healing relatively often, as it can be overwhelmed rather easily. However, using Roost can open it up to Ground-types such as Hippowdon, Gliscor, and Flygon easily 2HKOing it with Earthquake. Also, be weary of Pursuit users when using U-turn: the damage can add up overtime, especially if Stealth Rock is up. Team Options Crobat generally enjoys teammates who can take advantage of its hard answers either through Pursuit or strong attacks. It additionally loves Rapid Spin support to remove Stealth Rock. Choice Band Tyranitar makes a great partner, as it can guarantee a kill on Choice Scarf Rotom-A with Pursuit and do significant damage to many of Crobat’s other checks, such as Zapdos and Heatran. In return, Crobat can easily handle Fighting-types that threaten Tyranitar, such as Breloom and Lucario. Rapid Spinning greatly helps Crobat, as taking 25% of health adds up in the long term. Starmie and Forretress are excellent choices. Forretress as well as Skarmory can set up Spikes, as Crobat can force a lot of switches with Taunt and U-turn. Crobat also enjoys Knock Off support, especially on Steel-types such as Jirachi, Heatran, and Skarmory so it can damage them with Brave Bird and Super Fang. Clefable is an excellent choice and can take on Zapdos and Rotom-A. Other strong defensive teammates such as Jirachi, Latias, and Hippowdon appreciate Crobat's ability against more defensive teams and can take on Pokemon it does not enjoy dealing with.

That's right, only two moves. The only way you will get this Crobat to work is by setting up three layers of Spikes, then getting Crobat put to sleep; it's highly specific, but effective. Sleep Talk negates Whirlwind's negative priority, and thanks to its immense Speed, Crobat will blow away anything that's slower--in other words, everything. Not only will this inflict massive Spikes damage, it will also force out opponents with Calm Mind, Curse, Swords Dance, and Substitute. However, beware of waking up too early. Rest is an option here if you don't want to rely on your opponent to put Crobat to sleep, but it will then be using Rest instead of Whirlwind 50% of the time. Maximize Speed and HP, and put the leftovers in Defense or Special Defense; it won't matter much.

Sludge Bomb's nice 30% chance to cause poison allows Crobat to hurt its common opponents, such as Tyranitar, even if you mispredict. Hidden Power Fighting requires an imperfect Speed IV, which may cause you to lose the tie against opposing Crobat, so you'll have to use Hidden Power Ground if that's important. Maximize Attack, and hit at least 374 Speed to outspeed Alakazam and Sceptile. The rest of the EVs should go into Crobat's HP.

Set Description This set takes advantage of Crobat's high Speed and access to Haze to let it check dangerous setup sweepers. Haze is one of Crobat's best attributes, removing boosts from Pokemon such as Scyther, Pinsir, and Sandslash. Wing Attack is Crobat's most reliable source of damage and can 3HKO Scyther, Victreebel, Pinsir, and Bellossom. Thief can hurt the longevity of bulky Pokemon such as Ampharos, Hypno, and Nidoqueen that might try to switch in and threaten Crobat. Alternatively, Toxic has synergy with Spikes and can force a bulky Pokemon to use Rest. Confuse Ray has synergy with Crobat's high Speed and is its best way of making progress against bulkier Pokemon. Hidden Power Ground deals more damage to Pokemon such as Nidoqueen, Electabuzz, and Magneton on the switch, and it has synergy with Toxic because it hits most Toxic-immune Pokemon. Lastly, Rest is helpful for keeping Crobat healthy throughout a game; it's most useful when paired with a teammate that has Heal Bell, although Rest can let Scyther actually break through Crobat while it's asleep. Team Options Crobat is best used on defensive teams for its ability to check dangerous threats. Heal Bell support from Chansey or Granbull can remove sleep from Rest or paralysis that Crobat may have sustained. Pokemon that can deal with Electric-type moves such as Nidoqueen, Piloswine, and Hypno can be useful teammates when dealing with Pokemon such as Electabuzz and Pikachu. Hypno appreciates Crobat countering Scyther and is also useful for combating Psychic-types and providing Light Screen or Reflect support. Spikes support from Qwilfish is useful for chipping opposing Pokemon and has synergy with Crobat's Thief. Magneton and Ampharos help against Electric-types such as Electabuzz and Pikachu and can take on bulky Water-types such as Slowbro and Slowking. Blastoise is also found on defensive teams and can deal with Pokemon that can threaten Crobat, such as Omastar and Nidoqueen, while also being a decent check to Kabutops.
