Moves Head Smash is Tyrantrum's main STAB attack and is strong enough to 2HKO Bronzong, meaning only the bulkiest of Pokemon that resist Rock can hope to stomach it. Outrage dents Ground- and Fighting-types looking to resist Head Smash, heavily damages Donphan, 2HKOes Rhyperior after Stealth Rock damage, and is accurate, unlike Head Smash. Earthquake's main use is to smash Pokemon like Registeel and Steelix that can take Tyrantrum's STAB moves. Tyrantrum's last moveslot is largely filler, and it is mostly used to help Tyrantrum continue wallbreaking targets while still making it difficult for checks to switch in. Superpower helps to take out bulky Pokemon such as Umbreon and Snorlax while still deterring Steel-types such as Bronzong and Registeel from switching in. Crunch can be used to 2HKO specially defensive Cresselia without the risky effects of Head Smash and Outrage as well as cripple Bronzong. Dragon Claw is an option by virtue of simply being a safe STAB move to throw out, notably being able to damage Head Smash switch-ins without locking into Outrage, but its wallbreaking power is low otherwise. Set Details An Adamant nature with a Choice Band maximizes Tyrantrum's damage output against bulky Pokemon. A Jolly nature may be used to get the drop on the 242 speed tier, which includes relevant Pokemon like Florges, Mandibuzz, and Cresselia. Usage Tips Tyrantrum primarily targets slower Pokemon, against which it can use Head Smash and brutalize any Pokemon that doesn't resist the move. Head Smash's obscene power and lack of a crippling drawback aside from accuracy mean this will be Tyrantrum's most used attack. While Tyrantrum can predict the opponent's switch to a bulky Pokemon that resists Rock and use its other moves to nail them coming in, the best time for Tyrantrum to use its coverage moves is if they can KO the initial target while covering the switch at the same time. Since the opponent will rarely have more than one Pokemon that can take Head Smashes well, Tyrantrum usually only needs to get a single correct prediction to be free to spam Head Smash throughout the match. Against more offensive teams, Tyrantrum is not expected to survive for long due to its middling Speed and common weaknesses. Thus, it should focus on busting open a huge hole whenever it can, taking advantage of any slower or offensively weaker Pokemon on the opponent's team as well as the fact that they do not possess good switch-ins to Tyrantrum. Team Options Fast Pokemon that can clean games, such as Swellow, Dragon Dance Zygarde-10%, Salazzle, and Yanmega, make great partners to Tyrantrum, as these Pokemon greatly appreciate Tyrantrum softening up the foe's team to have an easier time sweeping. Tyrantrum can also lure out and weaken or KO problematic Pokemon for these sweepers, such as Bronzong and Rhyperior, as well as provide mild defensive synergy with Salazzle, as it resists Fairy-, Steel-, and Ice-type moves for it. Tyrantrum especially appreciates VoltTurn support to be able to switch into bulky Pokemon with minimal risk and can be provided by fast Pokemon such as Swellow, Noivern, Raikou, and Flygon. Tyrantrum also benefits from many forms of speed control, such as Sticky Web and paralysis, to gain an advantage against faster targets, making any potential users of these moves, such as Galvantula, Cresselia, Slowbro, and Porygon2 helpful teammates.

Moves Outrage is Tyrantrum's secondary STAB move, and coupled with Dragonium Z, it can be used to hit most Rock-resistant Pokemon such as Rhyperior and Bewear. However, locking into Outrage can be very dangerous if the opponent has a Fairy- or Steel-type that can KO Tyrantrum, such as Gardevoir or Metagross. Earthquake lets Tyrantrum hit Steel-types such as Registeel, which resist both of its STAB moves. Set Details Maximum Attack and Speed investment allows Tyrantrum to maximize its offensive presence. A Jolly nature is necessary to outspeed base 100 Speed Choice Scarf users such as Shaymin and Flygon, which would otherwise revenge kill Tyrantrum after a Rock Polish. However, sacrificing those advantages for an Adamant nature is an option if you prefer the extra power behind Tyrantrum's attacks, notably allowing it to OHKO Shaymin after some prior chip damage. Dragonium Z allows Tyrantrum to bypass its would-be checks, such as Rhyperior and Bewear, while Rockium Z lets it drop a nuke on neutral targets while bypassing Head Smash's shaky accuracy. If already using a Z-Move on your team, Rock Incense is a decent option to strengthen the power of Head Smash. This does lack the explosive power of Z-Moves that lets Tyantrum get past specific checks, though. Groundium Z is a serviceable option that lets Tyrantrum nail Pokemon such as non-Shuca Berry Metagross. Usage Tips Rock Polish Tyrantrum is able to bluff a Choice Scarf set, being able to set up on frail, offensive Pokemon such as Aerodactyl, Ninetales, and Swellow that fear its Choice Scarf set while also having a decent matchup versus bulkier teams due to the one-time nuke that Dragonium Z provides. Due to Tyrantrum's decent defensive typing, it is able to find setup opportunities from switching into common offensive Pokemon like Salazzle and setting up as they're forced out. Tyrantrum also finds setup opportunities on Choice-locked Pokemon such as Escavalier locked into Pursuit. Be wary of clicking Outrage when a Fairy-type such as Florges or Gardevoir is present on the opponent's field since the Fairy-type would gain a free turn. Against bulkier teams, make sure to gauge when the time is right to use the Z-Move, as eliminating a Rock-resistant Pokemon early-game can be extremely beneficial for Tyrantrum and leave it far less prediction reliant. For example, if you successfully eliminate a Rhyperior early-game, Tyrantrum can more easily spam Head Smash with little consequence. Steel-types such as Bronzong should be eliminated before attempting a Tyrantrum sweep, since they aren't hit by Earthquake hard enough and can stop a +2 Tyrantrum in its tracks. Team Options Wallbreakers such as Mega Abomasnow, Ninetales, and Choice Band Escavalier can pave the way for a Tyrantrum sweep due to them being able to wear down common answers for it, such as Bronzong. Pursuit from the likes of Escavalier and Drapion is able to weaken Pokemon like Bronzong and Cresselia for Tyrantrum. Tyrantrum appreciates support from Spikes setters like Roserade, Mega Glalie, and Golisopod, since many of its checks, such as Shuca Berry Metagross and Nidoqueen, lack reliable recovery, making them prone to being weakened by repeated switches into spikes. Pokemon that can beat opposing Steel-types are a must, since Tyrantrum cannot sweep if they are present. Bewear and Fire Blast Nidoqueen are good examples of wallbreakers that can neuter Steel-types. Grass-types such as Shaymin and Virizion are able to depend on Tyrantrum to take Fire- and Flying-type attacks for them and set up on these attacks. In return, Grass-types can weaken prominent Ground-types like Rhyperior, which threaten Tyrantrum's ability to sweep.

Dragon Claw is a reliable STAB move that can pick off weakened foes or opposing Dragon-types, such as Flygon, Zygarde-10%, and Goodra, with much less risk than its other STAB attacks. However, it's only barely stronger than a resisted Head Smash, so it's usually not worth going for in most cases. Toxic can be an option, and while it is not a move you'd choose in a majority of circumstances, it may be the only way Tyrantrum can have some presence against bulky Pokemon that can heal off its blows such as Cresselia and Slowbro. Set Details A Jolly nature is necessary for Choice Scarf Tyrantrum to outspeed the likes of Jolteon, Swellow, and Salazzle, and full Attack investment simply maximizes the power of Head Smash for it to effortlessly KO most offensive Pokemon that don't resist it. Usage Tips Choice Scarf Tyrantrum's main role is to threaten offensive teams with Head Smash, which has enough power to 2HKO Flygon and Virizion after Stealth Rock damage, meaning that offensive teams have limited switch-ins to Tyrantrum and are quite prone to losing Pokemon to it. Keep an eye out for offensive Pokemon like Rhyperior that can switch into Head Smash and try to hit them with the appropriate coverage move or pull a double switch to maintain offensive momentum. However, be wary of any Fairy-types present if attempting to use Outrage, as it can mean Tyrantrum's premature end. Be sure to capitalize on Choice Scarf Tyrantrum's power over Aerodactyl, which checks most of the Pokemon Tyrantrum does while being able to switch moves and have access to Pursuit. Team Options Since this Tyrantrum set is designed to prey on offensive teams, partners that can take on bulkier teams are appreciated. Escavalier is a very solid teammate, as it can switch into and threaten Fairy-, Ice-, and Dragon-type Pokemon for Tyrantrum and help put additional pressure on bulky Pokemon that intend to take hits from Tyrantrum, skewering the likes of Cresselia and Slowbro. Escavalier can also Pursuit trap Bronzong, removing another obstacle for Tyrantrum. In turn, Tyrantrum can protect Escavalier from Fire-type attacks and threaten a vast majority of fast Pokemon. Other wallbreakers and holepunchers include Flame Orb Machamp, Pangoro, Shaymin, and Toxicroak, which can harass slower teams, but be mindful of their shared weaknesses with Tyrantrum.

Outrage hits quite hard as well, and it hits several Pokemon that resist Head Smash such as Swampert, Chesnaught, and Machamp. Earthquake allows Tyrantrum to hit opposing Nidoqueen, Cobalion, and to an extent Doublade hard. Superpower serves as a powerful move to hit Krookodile hard, OHKOing offensive variants while heavily denting defensive variants. Set Details A Choice Band allows Tyrantrum to hit with extreme immediate power, while Rock Head allows Tyrantrum to use Head Smash without worrying about recoil. An Adamant nature along with maximum Attack and Speed investment allows Tyrantrum to hit very hard, but a Jolly nature allows Tyrantrum to outspeed Modest Chandelure and Nidoqueen, which can be important. Usage Tips Tyrantrum, with this set, becomes an extremely powerful wallbreaker. Therefore, it is advised that one try to get Tyrantrum into the battle safely so it can proceed to do significant damage to the opposing team. It is important to be aware that Tyrantrum possesses a relatively mediocre Speed tier, which makes it quite easy to revenge kill. Team Options A Pokemon that can deal with faster teams, such as Heliolisk or Choice Scarf Krookodile, is a great option to help Tyrantrum against more offensive builds. Such Pokemon can also benefit from Tyrantrum's ability to wallbreak effectively. Whimsicott can also help Tyrantrum deal with offensive teams better, either via Stun Spore or Tailwind. It can also deal with opposing Pokemon that beat Tyrantrum such as bulky Water-types, Dragon-types, Fighting-types, and Krookodile. Hydreigon can form a strong wallbreaking core with Tyrantrum by breaking down many of Tyrantrum's counters such as Mega Aggron. Nidoqueen can take on Heracross and Mienshao while setting up Stealth Rock. Late-game cleaners such as Slurpuff and Mega Sharpedo also benefit from Tyrantrum's wallbreaking prowess, as it allows them to clean more efficiently late-game. Finally, entry hazard support is also appreciated to help Tyrantrum wallbreak more efficiently. Forretress, Froslass, and Chesnaught can all provide effective entry hazard support.

Moves Rock Polish boosts Tyrantrum's Speed to an extremely high level, allowing it to outspeed many Pokemon in the metagame. Head Smash provides a powerful STAB move that severely dents almost everything. Dragon Claw allows Tyrantrum to hit Pokemon that resist Head Smash somewhat hard. Outrage, however, provides immense power and neutral coverage, but it locks Tyrantrum into the move. Earthquake allows Tyrantrum to hit Steel-types such as Cobalion and Doublade quite hard. Set Details Maximum Attack and Speed investment is needed for Tyrantrum to best sweep. A Jolly nature is preferred over Adamant because it allows Tyrantrum to outspeed Choice Scarf Mienshao and Infernape after a boost. Rock Head allows Tyrantrum to freely use Head Smash without any recoil. Life Orb is generally the preferred choice for the extra power, while Lum Berry can allow Tyrantrum to have a one-time cure of status while setting up. Alternatively, Stone Plate can be used on Tyrantrum to give a slight boost to Head Smash's power without the drawback of Life Orb's recoil. Usage Tips This particular set of Tyrantrum performs more as a sweeper than a wallbreaker, and works best late in the game. However, Tyrantrum still packs strong power with this set, so make use of it whenever possible. Tyrantrum finds its best setup opportunities against Pokemon that cannot touch it, such as Crobat and Entei, as well as defensive Pokemon such as Mandibuzz, so make use of such setup opportunities. Team Options This set of Tyrantrum works excellently with other wallbreaking Dragon-types such as Hydreigon, which can help remove threats such as Swampert and Nidoqueen. Heracross also wallbreaks decently, and it can handle Mamoswine, Krookodile, and Bronzong nicely. A Volt Switch user such as Forretress or Heliolisk can also help get Tyrantrum in safely in order to set up. Forretress can also provide Rapid Spin and entry hazard support, both of which can prove very useful. Chesnaught, Froslass, and Mega Aggron can all provide entry hazard support to allow Tyrantrum to sweep more effectively.
