You will be using Normalium Z in just about every matchup, with several variances in how you go about using it. The Psychic-type moves are typically only to be used for the sake of breaking Substitutes from Pokemon like Landorus-T, Garchomp, and Serperior. Against Landorus-T and Garchomp, in particular, you need to be wary of the possibility that they use Rock Tomb to make Meloetta slower once again after it uses Z-Celebrate, as this means they can just use Substitute again to block its Hyper Beam, while a +1 Psychic-type move isn't guaranteed to KO them at 75%. Meloetta welcomes Pokemon like Z-Move Dragonite, Zygarde, Kommo-o, Mega Altaria, and Donphan that either completely wall or break down the Sturdy users that overpower it. Be careful around walls with Knock Off such as Gliscor, as losing its item greatly hurts Meloetta's wallbreaking power. Be wary of potential Pursuit users that can trap and remove Meloetta such as Alolan Muk, Scizor, and Mega Aerodactyl. Also, be careful what move Meloetta uses, as locking into the wrong move makes it vulnerable to being Pursuit trapped by the likes of Tyranitar and Alolan Muk or set up on by Pokemon like Bisharp and Mega Scizor. Team Options Chansey can sponge special attacks from threats like Tapu Koko and Hydreigon that threaten Meloetta. It can also set up Stealth Rock to break Focus Sash and limit how many times a Pokemon can be brought in, which allows Meloetta to secure KOs on Thundurus-T and Landorus. Porygon2 can take physical attacks that Meloetta cannot like Victini's V-create and Mega Sharpedo's Crunch. Staraptor takes care of entry hazards for Meloetta with Defog, has Intimidate to help with threats like Mega Lopunny and Infernape, and can help Meloetta get safely into the field with its slow U-turn, which can easily help preserve Meloetta for later in the game. Mega Lopunny can provide great help in the Dark-type matchup and take care of threats like Mega Sableye and Bisharp. Mega Pidgeot can help take care of Fighting Pokemon as well as use U-turn to get it in safely on a predicted switch. Diggersby is a great physical wallbreaker that can take care of threats for Meloetta such as Mantine with Return and Celesteela with Fire Punch. Ditto can help against common setup users like Mega Charizard X and Mega Gallade by threatening a reverse sweep and pressuring them, and it is able to outpace any Pokemon that is not Choice Scarf itself thanks to its own Choice Scarf. Smeargle is a great suicide lead on hyper offensive Normal, setting hazards and allowing Meloetta to outspeed Pokemon it usually could not thanks to Sticky Web.

Be wary with your switches if the opponent has a Pursuit Pokemon at their disposal. Pursuit users such as Alolan Muk and Mega Aerodactyl can either OHKO Meloetta or deal a significant amount of damage to it. Utilize Meloetta's part-Normal typing to pivot into Ghost-type attacks and retaliate with Shadow Ball. Avoid getting paralyzed by Klefki at all costs, as Meloetta will lose its capability to check Mimikyu reliably. Furthermore, the loss of Speed will leave it vulnerable against slower offensive Pokemon such as Dragonite and Breloom. Team Options Mega Gallade forms a good offensive core with Meloetta. Its STAB Close Combat aids Meloetta with taking on Steel- and Normal-type Pokemon more reliably, such as Heatran, Ferrothorn, and Chansey, as well as beating Alolan Muk. Jirachi also has U-turn, which lets it pivot for Meloetta. Jirachi's good defensive typing allows it to take on Bug-type attacks for Meloetta, and its part-Steel typing allows it to switch into Toxic safely. Moreover, Jirachi can spread paralysis with Thunder Wave, making up for Meloetta's low Speed stat. Slowbro is an excellent physical wall that can take on many threats such as Excadrill and Terrakion thanks to its fantastic bulk, Regenerator, and Slack Off. Its Scald threatens physical attackers such as Terrakion and Excadrill with burns. Celebi functions similarly to Jirachi; its access to Thunder Wave cripples fast threats such as Mega Aerodactyl and Mega Gallade, its typing lets it switch into Ground-type attacks, and it can pivot for Meloetta with U-turn. Moreover, Celebi has Natural Cure which lets it absorb status conditions for Meloetta. Alakazam makes a decent backup for Meloetta. The combination of Focus Sash and Counter allows Alakazam to take on any physically offensive Pokemon one-on-one and beat them, including one of Meloetta's biggest counters, Alolan Muk. Latios has access to Defog, which removes entry hazards for its team, granting Meloetta some more freedom. Latios also has very good offensive stats, allowing it to act as a revenge killer with a Choice Scarf set. Victini has access to U-turn, which can be used to bring Meloetta into the field safely. Its good stats and strong offensive move options also let it be a good revenge killer with Choice Scarf.

Moves Relic Song is needed to allow Meloetta to change from its Aria forme to its Pirouette forme. It also happens to have a 20% chance to put the foe to sleep thanks to Serene Grace. Close Combat is a great STAB move that allows Meloetta-P to get around special walls such as Blissey while hitting Steel-types, which normally wall Meloetta-A, hard. Return is the obligatory Normal-type STAB move; it gets perfect neutral coverage alongside Close Combat bar Ghost-types. Knock Off provides Meloetta-P with a way to hit Ghost-types and remove items from foes, crippling them for the rest of the match. Set Details Maximum Attack EVs are used to allow Meloetta's Pirouette forme to hit as hard as it can. 216 Speed EVs allow Meloetta to outspeed Jolly Heracross and Toxicroak in its Aria forme and Noivern in its Pirouette forme. The rest is dumped into Special Attack to allow Relic Song to hit a bit harder. Life Orb boosts the power of all of Meloetta's attacks and allows it to switch between moves. A Naive nature is preferred to not lower either of Meloetta's offenses while also allowing it to take common priority attacks in UU. Usage Tips This set can surprise some of Meloetta's common checks and counters, such as Blissey and Snorlax, as it now has a super effective STAB move with which to get around these special walls. It also gains a boost to its Speed, outspeeding old threats such as Krookodile, Hydreigon, and Mienshao. Team Options This set appreciates entry hazard support, as Meloetta-P can force switches a lot easier thanks to its boost in Speed and different STAB combination. Pokemon such as Forretress and Tentacruel can set up and remove entry hazards to allow more switches for Meloetta. This set also likes the support of wallbreakers such as Entei, Conkeldurr and Life Orb Hydreigon, as they can easily wear down common walls that switch into Meloetta. Entei is great in particular, as it can spread burns thanks to its access to Sacred Fire.

Moves U-turn allows Meloetta to gain easy momentum against common switch-ins, such as Blissey and Florges. Hyper Voice is a great STAB move that allows Meloetta to hit Pokemon behind Substitutes. Psychic is a nice STAB move as well that hits harder than Psyshock, although Psyshock still hits special walls harder. Trick can cripple slow walls, such as Snorlax or Forretress; however, Focus Blast provides Meloetta with a way to beat Steel- and Dark-types, such as Mega Aggron and Krookodile. Set Details Maximum Special Attack and Speed EVs allow Meloetta to hit as hard and as fast as possible. A Timid nature means Meloetta is not outsped by positive-natured maximum Speed Mega Aerodactyl or other Mega Evolutions such as Beedrill. A Choice Scarf is the obvious item, as it patches up Meloetta's average base 90 Speed stat, letting it outspeed the whole unboosted metagame. Usage Tips Slapping a Choice Scarf on Meloetta means it can be a decent revenge killer. This set should be brought in after a teammate has fainted to make sure Meloetta doesn't take unnecessary damage. Watch out for other Choice Scarf users, as most common ones, such as Mienshao and Infernape, still outspeed Meloetta. Team Options This set appreciates wallbreakers, as it is more of a late-game cleaner than the other sets. Pokemon such as Entei and Darmanitan are good examples, as their Fire-type STAB moves allow them to roast Steel-types, which tend to wall Meloetta. This set also appreciates entry hazards removed, as it has no sort of recovery. Forretress and Tentacruel make for good partners, as the former is immune to Toxic Spikes and neutral to Stealth Rock while the latter absorbs Toxic Spikes and has Scald to spread burns. This set appreciates entry hazard support as well due to Meloetta being able to force switches easily. Pokemon such as Mega Swampert and Nidoqueen can provide power while setting up Stealth Rock easily.

Set Details Maximum Special Attack and Speed EVs allow Meloetta to hit as hard and as fast as it can. Choice Specs boosts Meloetta's already amazing base 128 Special Attack stat. A Timid nature makes sure that Meloetta Speed ties with other positive-natured base 90 Speed Pokemon such as Moltres while also outspeeding otherwise major threats such as Heracross. Usage Tips Bring Meloetta in early-game to break down walls and wear them down to allow teammates opportunities to set up or continue to apply the pressure. Meloetta can also be useful even after Tricking away its item, as it has decent special bulk and can still hit pretty hard. Meloetta can also come in on common walls, as it has a way around both special and physical walls thanks to its access to Psyshock and good special coverage moves. Team Options Setup sweepers such as Nasty Plot Infernape and Swords Dance Toxicroak love having walls weakened. They also provide offensive synergy, as both can easily break Steel-types that tend to switch into Meloetta, which has to rely on Focus Blast to deal with them. Entry hazard support is very much appreciated, as this Meloetta set can force a lot of switches. Forretress can provide a wide range of entry hazards while being able to bring in Meloetta safely thanks to a slow Volt Switch, while Tentacruel can provide Toxic Spikes and Scald burns, both of which apply a ton of pressure on the opponent.

Moves Perish Song allows Meloetta to provide stall with a way to beat setup Pokemon such as Reuniclus, which is not crippled by status thanks to its Magic Guard ability. Hyper Voice allows Meloetta to hit Pokemon behind Substitutes; however, Ghost-types are immune to Hyper Voice and can switch into it at any time. U-turn can be used to gain easy momentum. Heal Bell gives Meloetta a way to get rid of the team's status, and it can do so multiple times thanks to the switches Perish Song warrants. If you already have a cleric and opted for Hyper Voice in the second slot, U-turn can be used here, as it is useful for gaining momentum off of forced switches due to Perish Song. Knock Off gets rid of Leftovers and other useful items such as Nidoqueen's Life Orb. Toxic puts the opponent's Pokemon on a timer, while Thunder Wave allows Meloetta to cripple offensive Pokemon such as Mega Aerodactyl and Crobat. Set Details Maximum HP and Special Defense EVs allow Meloetta to make use of its great 100 / 128 special bulk. A Calm nature is used to boost Meloetta's already excellent special bulk even further; however, a Careful nature can be used if you decide to opt for U-turn + Knock Off. Leftovers provides Meloetta with a form of passive recovery. Usage Tips This set should be used exclusively to check setup sweepers such as Calm Mind Reuniclus, Substitute + Calm Mind Cresselia, and other Pokemon that are otherwise major threats to stall teams. Try not to bring it in on any physical attacks, as even strong neutral hits will tend to cause some major damage to Meloetta. Team Options This set really appreciates Wish support so that it can continue tanking special hits, as it has no form of reliable recovery. Pokemon such as Alomomola, Sylveon, and Umbreon have decent physical Defense to complement Meloetta's special bulk, and each provides their own unique support. This set also appreciates entry hazard support, as it can force a lot of switches thanks to Perish Song. Pokemon such as Forretress and Chesnaught provide Spikes support to wear down the opponent's team quickly; Forretress can also remove entry hazards with Rapid Spin and set up two other entry hazards, Stealth Rock and Toxic Spikes.

Moves Substitute provides Meloetta with a way to avoid status, especially from Scald, and more setup opportunities. Calm Mind boosts Meloetta's already decent Special Attack and Special Defense stats. Psyshock allows Meloetta to win Calm Mind wars against other Pokemon such as Suicune, as it hits them on their non-boosted Defense stat. Hyper Voice is a great secondary STAB move, hitting through other Substitutes; however, you can opt for Focus Blast instead if you want a more reliable way to beat Steel-, Dark-, and Normal-types such as Mega Aggron, Krookodile, Hydreigon, and Snorlax super effectively. Set Details Maximum Special Attack and Speed EVs let Meloetta hit as hard and as fast as possible; however, a spread of 252 HP / 40 Def / 216 Spe with a Timid nature may be used instead to still outspeed Jolly Toxicroak and Heracross while providing a bit more bulk. This spread can also set up more easily on Blissey, as Meloetta can produce 101 HP Substitutes. Leftovers is the preferred item to give Meloetta more Substitutes and a bit of recovery as well. A Timid nature means Meloetta isn't threatened by Pokemon that would otherwise outspeed it, such as Toxicroak and Heracross. Usage Tips This Meloetta set is a great win condition against stall and semi-stall teams thanks to its ability to win Calm Mind wars with Psyshock and threaten foes that are resistant or immune to Psychic, such as Reuniclus and Krookodile, with Hyper Voice. Meloetta should be brought in mid- or late-game and is best setting up on attacks that cannot break its Substitute, such as an unboosted Scald from Suicune. Another way to set up is on Pokemon that can only inflict damage with Toxic or weak moves, such as Alomomola and Florges. Team Options This set appreciates wallbreakers to wear down Steel-types that force Meloetta out. Entei is a particularly good partner, as it can hit Steel-types with a super effective STAB move and spread burns, wearing down the opponent's team. Entry hazard support is necessary as well. Forretress is a particularly good partner, as it can sponge physical hits early-game and also clear entry hazards thanks to its access to Rapid Spin.

Moves Psychic is Meloetta's primary STAB move, hitting Fighting- and Poison-types such as Terrakion and Mega Venusaur super effectively. Alternatively, Psyshock can be used instead of Psychic to target the foe's Defense stat, which makes it a great check to Chansey, Quiver Dance Volcarona, and Calm Mind users such as Clefable. Hyper Voice is necessary as a secondary STAB move to hit several types for neutral damage. It can also hit foes that tend to set up Substitute such as Gyarados. Focus Blast provides Meloetta with Fighting-type coverage to hit threats such as Tyranitar, Mamoswine, Porygon2, Heatran, and Skarmory. Shadow Ball allows Meloetta to hit Psychic-types such as Jirachi and can 2HKO Mew. Alternatively, Energy Ball hits Ground- and Water-types such as Hippowdon, Seismitoad, Swampert, and Gastrodon super effectively. It also OHKOes Rotom-W and Azumarill. Set Details Maximum Special Attack EVs along with a Modest nature maximize Meloetta's damage output. Maximum Speed EVs are used to outspeed Jolly Breloom, Adamant Choice Band Diggersby, and Timid Heatran. Choice Specs is used to increase Meloetta's damage output even further. Choice Scarf with a Timid nature can be used instead of Choice Specs for Meloetta to be as fast as possible, outspeeding Pokemon such as specially defensive Tentacruel, physically defensive Staraptor, and Adamant Mamoswine. This also enables Meloetta to act as a revenge killer against Dark- and Fighting-types. However, Meloetta completely misses out on the extra damage potential and is unable to wallbreak. The Speed EVs can instead be put into HP to increase Meloetta's bulk. A Timid nature can be used instead of a Modest nature to outspeed Jolly Gyarados, Mamoswine, and Timid Nidoking; however, Meloetta needs a Modest nature in order to wallbreak. Usage Tips This set allows Meloetta to function as a hard-hitting wallbreaker, but status effects such as poison, burn, and paralysis can cripple its effectiveness. It can be brought in early-game to dent the opposing team and break down physical walls. Meloetta can also come into weak special attacks, creating an opportunity for it to deal enormous damage, so it should be played aggressively. Keep Meloetta healthy if there is an opposing threat it needs to check such as Mew or Clefable. Team Options Mega Lopunny helps against Dark-type Pokemon with its Fighting-type STAB moves. It can provide chip damage with Fake Out and deal with Pokemon such as Chansey, which otherwise walls Meloetta. Mega Lopunny can also switch into a predicted Knock Off to sponge the attack. Porygon2 is a great switch-in for physical attackers due to Eviolite and can spread status with moves such as Thunder Wave and Toxic, allowing Meloetta to wallbreak more effectively. Staraptor can help against Bug-types such as Volcarona, Mega Scizor, and Mega Pinsir. Diggersby is a great physical wallbreaker that complements Meloetta's special attacks. Ditto's ability Imposter allows it to threaten many setup sweepers that tend to set up on Choice-locked Meloetta. Chansey helps absorb status moves aimed at Meloetta with Natural Cure and also set up Stealth Rock to get chip damage on opposing Pokemon so that Meloetta can KO them more easily, especially Pokemon with a Focus Sash.

Moves Shadow Ball targets Psychic-types like Jirachi. Focus Blast hits Steel-type Pokemon like Heatran and Magnezone that resist both of its STAB types and also hits Dark-type Pokemon like Tyranitar and Bisharp super effectively. Psyshock is a strong STAB move that hits specially defensive Pokemon like Togekiss, Lanturn, and specially defensive Zapdos much harder than Psychic, but Psychic can also be used because it is stronger and can hit physically defensive Pokemon like Landorus-T and Hippowdon harder. In addition, Psychic is affected by Serene Grace. Dazzling Gleam rounds off Meloetta's coverage, letting it get past Mandibuzz while also providing a more reliable way to hit other Dark-type Pokemon in general. Hyper Voice can still be used as a good neutral STAB attack but does not help Meloetta's coverage. Trick can be used to cripple walls and Pokemon that Meloetta can't get past. U-turn can be an interesting option that lets Meloetta pivot around Pokemon that it can't beat, but Meloetta struggles to fit it in its moveset. Set Details The EV spread is simple; maximum Speed and maximum Special Attack make Meloetta as fast and as powerful as possible. A Timid nature is preferred to outspeed base 80 Speed Pokemon like Mamoswine and Chandelure along with outspeeding maximum Speed, neutral-natured base 100 Speed Pokemon. A Modest nature can be used if the above threats are not a concern to the team, however. Meloetta can opt for a slower EV spread if a more reliable Ghost-type switch-in is needed: 188 Speed EVs can be used to outspeed positive-natured base 70 Speed Pokemon, most notably Breloom, and 96 Speed EVs can be used to outspeed neutral-natured base 70 Speed Pokemon and below like Bisharp and Mega Swampert. Serene Grace increases Shadow Ball's, Focus Blast's, and Psychic's chances of dropping Special Defense, making Meloetta harder to switch into. Choice Specs greatly increases Meloetta's power, letting it OHKO most offensive threats and 3HKO most defensive threats at worst. Life Orb is an option so that Meloetta can freely switch moves, but the recoil limits Meloetta's utility as a Ghost check. Usage Tips Use this set as a wallbreaker, using its very powerful STAB moves or unresisted coverage moves to break holes in the opposing team. Meloetta has very good natural special bulk, so freely switch it into weak special attacks like Scald. Keep Meloetta healthy if the opposing team has a Chandelure or Gengar so they are not free to spam Shadow Ball. Team Options Victini complements this Meloetta set perfectly; its strong V-create hits the specially defensive Pokemon that are likely switching into Meloetta hard, and it can use U-turn to pivot into Meloetta on the Water- and Ground-type Pokemon that give Victini trouble. Victini is also able to take weak Bug-type moves for Meloetta, and Meloetta can switch into most Water-type moves for Victini. Slowbro is a good teammate for Meloetta as well, as its high physical defense complements Meloetta's weaker defensive stat and it can take on most U-turn and Knock Off aimed at Meloetta. If Meloetta is not using Dazzling Gleam, Mega Gardevoir pairs well with it, as it is able to get rid of Mandibuzz for Meloetta while also dealing with other Dark-type Pokemon and taking Dark- and Bug-type moves neutrally.

Moves Substitute keeps Meloetta from being affected by any status moves and allows it to safely set up Calm Mind. Calm Mind boosts Meloetta's Special Attack and Special Defense by one stage, making its attacks more powerful while also granting increased bulk against special attackers. Psyshock helps Meloetta break through special walls and hit Chansey. Shadow Ball hits Psychic-types such as Mega Gardevoir and Latias super effectively. It also hits Steel-types, which resist Psyshock, such as Heatran, Skarmory, and Jirachi. However, Shadow Ball leaves Meloetta unable to threaten Dark-type Pokemon. Focus Blast can be used instead to provide coverage against Dark-, Ice-, Normal-, and Steel-types such as Bisharp, Kyurem-B, Porygon2, and Ferrothorn at the cost of coverage for Psychic-types. Set Details Maximum HP EVs grant Meloetta more bulk. This also prevents Chansey from breaking Meloetta's Substitute with Seismic Toss, making it a great target to set up Calm Mind on. Maximum Speed EVs along with a Timid nature maximize Meloetta's Speed, letting it outspeed Jolly Gyarados, Excadrill, and Timid Heatran. The remaining EVs are invested into Special Attack to increase damage output. Leftovers provides passive recovery each turn, increasing its longevity and giving it more opportunities to set up Substitute. Serene Grace increases the chance to activate the secondary effects of Shadow Ball and Focus Blast. Usage Tips This set has Meloetta function as a Calm Mind sweeper. Depending on which coverage move Meloetta is using, make sure to eliminate threats that resist it. For example, if Meloetta has Shadow Ball instead of Focus Blast and battles against a Dark-type team, it needs to rely on its partners such as Mega Lopunny to clear the field of the opposing Pokemon. Meloetta should usually set up Substitute on predicted status-inflicting moves, as they can cripple its sweeping capabilities. Meloetta can also use Substitute to its advantage against specially defensive Pokemon such as Chansey. A fallen teammate provides a good opportunity for switching in so that Meloetta doesn't take any damage upon doing so. Meloetta needs to avoid status moves as much as possible, as when inflicted, its sweeping capabilities will be ruined. It's not always recommended to use Meloetta early-game, as this set serves more as a late-game wincon, which means it should be kept healthy. Meloetta can, however, set up early-game if its checks have already fainted. Team Options Entry hazard removers such as Staraptor keep Meloetta from taking damage when switching in. Meloetta will have trouble against Dark-types, which Mega Lopunny can handle. Diggersby can help wallbreak against specially bulky Pokemon such as Zapdos and Chansey for Meloetta. Chansey and Porygon2 can help wear down walls with Toxic or by inflicting paralysis with moves such as Thunder Wave and Discharge, which assists Meloetta in setting up. Chansey can also set up Stealth Rock to rack up chip damage for Meloetta.

Moves Boomburst is an incredibly spammable STAB move, with 140 Base Power, 100% accuracy, and no downsides whatsoever. Psystrike is another very powerful STAB move, and it hits specially defensive walls such as Chansey on their physical Defense rather than Special Defense. Focus Blast hits would-be safe switch-ins such as Heatran and Tyranitar hard. Dazzling Gleam is mainly used to hit Sableye, which otherwise walls Meloetta. U-turn is a great move to maintain momentum on predicted switches. Hidden Power Ice is a usable option to hit certain bulky Pokemon such as Landorus-T and Garchomp. Hidden Power Fire can be used to hit Scizor in particular, as well as provide a more reliable attack for Ferrothorn. Trick is worth noting as well, as it can be used with Choice Specs to cripple walls such as Chansey and Porygon2. Set Details The EVs are set to maximize Meloetta's power and bulk, with enough Speed EVs invested to outspeed fully invested Tyranitar. Choice Specs is the ideal option to make Meloetta hit as hard as possible while not whittling down its HP, as Meloetta has no form of recovery. Life Orb is another viable option, that boosts the power of all of Meloetta's moves without locking it into a move. Meloetta uses a Modest nature for maximum power. Usage Tips Meloetta should be used to break down defensive cores because of its overwhelming wallbreaking potential. When in doubt, spam Boomburst, as no Pokemon wants to take a neutral Boomburst. Make sure to not switch Meloetta into physical attacks and especially a potential Knock Off, as Meloetta's physical bulk is rather poor and it is a very item-reliant Pokemon. In general, be careful bringing Meloetta out if the opponent has Tyranitar or Weavile, as they can Pursuit trap it, potentially KOing it. Following that, if Meloetta has Choice Specs, try to avoid using Psystrike until Dark-types such as Tyranitar and Weavile have been KOed. Team Options Meloetta functions very well on teams that have trouble dealing with defensive cores, because it dismantles bulky builds. Setup sweepers such as Porygon-Z and Scizor appreciate Meloetta's ability to beat most walls, including Unaware Clefable and Quagsire. Fire-type Pokemon such as Mega Charizard X and Talonflame can beat the Steel-types that Meloetta can have trouble with, particularly Jirachi and Bug/Steel-type Pokemon (most notably Scizor and Forretress). Entry hazard setters make it even harder to switch in on Meloetta. As Meloetta is vulnerable to Dark-type moves, especially Knock Off, Pokemon that resist Dark and, specifically, Knock Off absorbers are good team options as well. Some good examples are Whimsicott and Terrakion.

Moves Boomburst is a very powerful and spammable STAB move. Psystrike is another very powerful STAB move that hits special tanks, most notably Chansey. Focus Blast hits Steel-types, which otherwise stop Meloetta, although its poor accuracy makes it unreliable. Rapid Spin is an option for teams that need entry hazard control. U-turn is used to maintain momentum on predicted switches. Dazzling Gleam can be used to hit Sableye, which otherwise walls Meloetta, but it isn't as important on this set because Meloetta isn't trying to break walls and it can just U-turn out. Set Details Meloetta has excellent natural bulk, and Assault Vest allows it to switch into many special attackers such as Gengar and Mega Manectric. Enough Speed is invested to outspeed fully invested Tyranitar, while full Special Attack investment and a Modest nature maximizes Meloetta's damage output. The remaining EVs are put into HP for maximum bulk. Boomburst can still hit hard without a boosting item thanks to its high Base Power. Alternatively, you can opt for 252 Special Defense EVs and a Calm nature if you desire bulk over attack power. Usage Tips Meloetta has insanely good special bulk and can switch into just about any special attack bar Dark-type attacks comfortably. When in doubt, spam Boomburst because it will hit just about anything hard bar Pokemon that resist it; even when uninvested, it will 2HKO a large majority of threats. However, Sableye will nearly always switch into Meloetta, so don't be afraid to click Dazzling Gleam if Meloetta is running it and Sableye is still healthy. Rapid Spin is easy to use assuming the opponent doesn't have Sableye, as people won't be expecting it. It's important to keep entry hazards off the field when using Assault Vest Meloetta because of how prone it is to getting worn down coupled with Meloetta's lack of recovery. If you predict your opponent will switch Pokemon but aren't sure what they'll send in, U-turn is a great option. A slow U-turn allows Meloetta to absorb the hit if the foe attacks and allows you to send in whatever puts you in the best position. Team Options Physical tanks such as Ferrothorn can absorb physical hits, while Meloetta can take special ones in return. Pokemon with Will-O-Wisp such as Sableye also help Meloetta by crippling physical attackers. Entry hazard removers such as Excadrill and Latias are good options because Meloetta is very prone to getting worn down and entry hazards expedite the process. Mega Charizard Y can deal with Steel-types, which otherwise annoy Meloetta, while Meloetta can remove Stealth Rock in return. Knock Off absorbers such as Terrakion are good partners due to Meloetta's weakness to the move. Wish passers such as Chansey and Clefable help preserve Meloetta's longevity, letting it continue walling threats.

Meloetta's unique typing, good bulk, and flexible Speed tier make it a strong option for a support Wonder Guard user. Baton Pass allows Meloetta to provide pivoting support to its teammates while also escaping slower Pursuit users, such as Huge Power Mega Gyarados. King's Shield is an alternative that can similarly ease Meloetta's matchup versus Pursuit users while also letting it scout for its team and improving its one-on-one matchup versus powerful physical threats like Choice Band Mold Breaker Primal Groudon. Defog and Aromatherapy are valuable support options for nearly every team composition. However, if a teammate is carrying either or both, Meloetta can make use of other utility options like Whirlwind and Stealth Rock. Notably, Whirlwind can make Meloetta a situational check to many special Shell Smash Mold Breaker and Wonder Guard sweepers, as well as force out Substitute + Baton Pass users like the ever popular Wonder Guard Xerneas. Finally, recovery is essential for Meloetta to function effectively. Recover's immediacy and reliability is generally preferred, but Wish is an alternative that allows Meloetta to support its teammates and synergizes well with King's Shield and Baton Pass. Shed Shell is the preferred item, as it makes Meloetta much less susceptible to Shadow Tag users. The given EV spread maximizes Meloetta's physical bulk while also giving it the ability to survive Mold Breaker Mega Gengar's +2 Sludge Wave after Stealth Rock. This is notable, as Meloetta's immunity to Ghost and good bulk allow it to soft check Mold Breaker Mega Gengar whether it's carrying Secret Sword or Sludge Wave. Finally, if Pursuit trappers aren't a concern, Meloetta can make use of a Relaxed nature and 0 Speed IVs to underspeed popular slow pivots like Substitute + Baton Pass Wonder Guard Xerneas. Like is the case with all support Wonder Guard users, Meloetta fits on a wide variety of team structures. Its weakness to Pursuit users means that Meloetta appreciates teammates such as Substitute + Baton Pass Wonder Guard Xerneas, as well as Wonder Guard Shell Smash sweepers like Mega Gardevoir and Mega Lucario. Choice Specs Mold Breaker users, such as Mega Mewtwo Y and Mega Rayquaza, appreciate specially defensive Meloetta's ability to Imposter-proof them thanks to its unique typing and good special bulk. Choice Specs Mold Breaker Mega Mewtwo Y is worth noting in particular, as even physically defensive variants of Meloetta can Imposter-proof it with Whirlwind or by using Baton Pass to pivot to a revenge killer like Sucker Punch Mega Gyarados. Additionally, Pursuit trappers like Huge Power Mega Gyarados and Yveltal are excellent teammates for Meloetta, checking Shell Smash Mold Breakers users and Pursuit trapping Prankster Giratina. Furthermore, Pursuit users can trap Imposter users copying variants of Meloetta lacking Baton Pass. -ate Speed users like Mega Rayquaza and Mega Abomasnow are also helpful teammates for Meloetta, as they force out the majority of Mold Breaker sweepers after being brought in safely by Meloetta's Baton Pass. On bulkier teams, Meloetta can be run alongside another defensive Wonder Guard user, allowing for more flexibility with both their movesets. In particular, Wonder Guard users that can switch into physical attackers for Meloetta, but are perhaps more vulnerable to Mold Breaker Mega Gengar—such as Mega Scizor and Mega Swampert—synergize very well with Meloetta. Finally, offensive Shadow Tag users such as Mega Rayquaza and Mega Mewtwo X are valuable teammates as they can trap the Pursuit trappers that Meloetta fears.
