Giratina (Origin Forme) Movesets & Wettbewerbs-Sets

This set utilizes Giratina-O's great Special Attack and Griseous Orb to pressure common bulky threats such as Zygarde, Groudon, and Necrozma-DM. Shadow Sneak allows Giratina-O to safely revenge kill weakened, faster threats like Calyrex-S, Lunala, Kyogre, and Rayquaza. 28 Speed EVs allow Giratina-O to outpace Adamant Calyrex-I, while 12 Attack EVs ensure the OHKO on Calyrex-S with Shadow Sneak after Stealth Rock. The remaining Defense investment helps Giratina-O handle foes like Groudon, Necrozma-DM, Zamazenta-C, and Ho-Oh. Pairing Giratina-O with another Ghost-type is valuable to exploit the tier's lack of switch-ins to Ghost-types. Calyrex-S and Marshadow greatly benefit from Giratina-O crippling Dark-types like Yveltal, Zarude, and Tyranitar with Will-O-Wisp or weakening them with Draco Meteor, allowing both Ghost-types to overwhelm them. Calyrex-S can further cripple these Dark-types with Trick + a Choice item, while Marshadow can take advantage of them with Bulk Up; both Ghost-types also help Giratina-O by KOing Blissey. Due to Giratina-O lacking recovery, having defensive switch-ins is valuable for it; Necrozma-DM offers a Fairy-resistant partner and utility with Knock Off, Stealth Rock, and Thunder Wave, while Yveltal resists Ghost and Dark while offering Defog and U-turn support. Clerics such as Calyrex-S, Blissey, and Xerneas help Giratina-O, with Blissey also offering Wish and an answer to special attackers like Xerneas, Kyogre, and Eternatus, and Xerneas providing a Dragon immunity.

This set focuses on Giratina's great Attack stat to beat common threats such as Necrozma-DM and Kyogre. Griseous Orb-boosted Poltergeist deals great damage to any non-Ghost-resistant foe. Stone Edge safely 2HKOes even bulky Yveltal as well as Ho-Oh. 76 Speed EVs allow Giratina-O to outspeed uninvested Yveltal and force mindgames with Stone Edge, while 176 HP EVs let it survive Choice Specs Ice Beam from Kyogre after Stealth Rock. Physical Giratina-O has a better chance to break through Yveltal and doesn't have to rely on Stealth Rock damage to OHKO Calyrex-S. However, it has difficulty beating physical walls like Zygarde, Bulk Up Groudon, Zarude, and Buzzwole due to its inability to boost its Attack. Special wallbreakers like Kyogre and Xerneas are good teammates for Giratina-O, with Xerneas also offering Aromatherapy to prevent status from severely hindering it. Kyogre especially appreciates Defog to keep Water Spout at maximum power. Being able to lure in Yveltal thanks to Stone Edge helps teammates such as Calyrex-S and offensive Lunala, which have trouble breaking through it.

Moves Giratina-O's ability to force switches with its strong attacks and check Primal Groudon makes it an effective Defog user. Hex provides Giratina-O with an immensely powerful attack against statused foes. Hex is one of the major factors that contribute to Giratina-O's offensive presence due to it 2HKOing foes like Primal Groudon, Primal Kyogre, Magearna, and the majority of the support Arceus formes once they've been statused. Dragon Pulse is a consistent secondary STAB move that isn't reliant on status. Dragon Pulse also has a sizable damage output despite its mediocre Base Power, doing enough damage to 2HKO most offensive Primal Groudon variants after Stealth Rock damage and outright OHKO offensive Mega Salamence. Draco Meteor provides Giratina-O with a Dragon-type STAB attack with more immediate damage output, forcing recovery moves from support Arceus formes that attempt to absorb damage and threatening to OHKO Yveltal and offensive Ho-Oh after Stealth Rock damage. Draco Meteor also pressures Primal Groudon significantly harder than Dragon Pulse, weakening defensive variants to the point where it can no longer pivot into threats like Necrozma-DM and Xerneas and putting offensive variants in range of priority moves. However, its tendency to force Giratina-O out after attacking a foe and worsen its matchup against Substitute Extreme Killer Arceus makes it a less favorable move than Dragon Pulse. A status move is used in the fourth moveslot to enable Giratina-O to use boosted Hex and punish a variety of its switch-ins. Thunder Wave cripples support Arceus formes, Yveltal, and Xerneas, making them much easier to check. Paralysis allows Giratina-O to threaten support Arceus formes by threatening to 2HKO them with boosted Hex, and it comes in handy with punishing Xerneas, forcing Choice Scarf variants to lock themselves into Aromatherapy and making Geomancy variants significantly easier to handle. Thunder Wave especially comes in handy where Giratina-O isn't healthy enough to win duels against foes like Mega Lucario, enabling its teammates to handle them more easily. Will-O-Wisp is an alternative status move that pressures Steel-types harder with residual damage and cripples Necrozma-DM, Mega Lucario, and Swords Dance Arceus formes. Toxic can be used to pressure Primal Groudon and punish Giratina-O's checks harder in the long run, serving as the only status move that can pressure support and Calm Mind variants of Arceus-Ground, which would otherwise not mind too much about Giratina-O's other moves. However, choosing Toxic as a status move removes Giratina-O's ability to 2HKO specially defensive Necrozma-DM, and it is usually better for Giratina-O to use Thunder Wave or Will-O-Wisp and let its teammates spread Toxic poison to foes like Primal Groudon and support Arceus formes. Giratina-O can forgo Hex for Shadow Ball and give up a status move for Shadow Sneak to have a consistent Ghost-type STAB attack and a priority move, which can be handy with picking off faster threats like Mega Gengar and Deoxys-A and setup sweepers. A combination of Shadow Ball and Shadow Sneak is also capable of preventing Cloyster from setting up entry hazards. Note that Giratina-O will have to opt for a Quiet nature with this option to maximize Shadow Sneak's damage. Set Details 248 HP and 52 Special Defense EVs allow Giratina-O to survive two full-powered Eruptions from Primal Groudon. The remaining EVs are put into Special Attack with a Modest nature, which, combined with a mandated Griseous Orb, improve Giratina-O's offensive presence, limiting its switch-ins and enabling it to offensively check a large portion of the tier. If Thunder Wave is run, 28 Speed EVs should be used to outspeed Modest Choice Scarf Xerneas and Yveltal once they have been paralyzed. Running 152 Speed EVs may be an appealing option if using Will-O-Wisp, as this enables Giratina-O to burn Necrozma-DM before Necrozma-DM OHKOes Giratina-O with +2 Searing Sunraze Smash. Note that this costs a noticeable portion of Giratina-O's damage output or bulk, however. Maximum Defense investment can be used instead of maximum HP investment to take physical attacks better. This can come in handy against Pokemon like Necrozma-DM and Swords Dance Arceus-Ground. Levitate provides Giratina-O with an immunity to Ground, improving its matchup against Primal Groudon and Swords Dance Arceus-Ground. Usage Tips Making the best use of Giratina-O requires somewhat cautious play, despite it often being a pivot that is intentionally sent out against Primal Groudon and certain entry hazard setters. Giratina-O will inevitably sustain damage and will be worn down over the course of the match, and this means Giratina-O should be somewhat focused on managing its HP. Giratina-O should be quick to decide whether combating a foe and taking damage outweighs lessening the chance it can take on other threats it may be tasked to handle. Taking damage and removing entry hazards with Defog is beneficial for Giratina-O's team, but staying in the field unnecessarily long to take an extra attack or increase the odds of getting inflicted by status will only make Giratina-O get worn down faster. Primal Groudon and Swords Dance Arceus formes are the most common foes that Giratina-O should stay in against to prevent them from dealing excessive damage to other teammates. While these threats may be easier to keep in check with a healthy Giratina-O when they attempt to wallbreak early- or mid-game, it will be much more difficult to stop them as the game gets longer and Giratina-O keeps taking damage. Unless there are reliable checks to said foes other than Giratina-O, ensure that Giratina-O is healthy enough to win the duel against them. Against bulkier teams with durable entry hazard setters like defensive Necrozma-DM, Ferrothorn, and Arceus formes using Stealth Rock, Giratina-O can choose to act aggressively by statusing them and then damaging them with Hex. While entry hazard setters from bulky teams tend to carry Toxic, this may be a worthwhile move to make if entry hazards are going to be problematic for Giratina-O's team and the setters have to be pressured. Giratina-O will find an opportunity to remove entry hazards from offensive teams if it manages to pivot into an appropriate foe like Primal Groudon or Arceus-Ground. As these Pokemon are common in such archetypes and simply letting Giratina-O switch into them will let it remove entry hazards set by dedicated leads, it is likely that an opponent will seek a way to wear down Giratina-O with Stealth Rock and aggressively double switch into offensive checks like Xerneas and Yveltal, so avoid being too reactive against such teams. Team Options Various support Arceus formes can be beneficial, as, depending on their typing, they can cover Giratina-O's weaknesses and form a good defensive core. With Giratina-O freeing their moveslot by providing Defog support, Arceus formes have more options to be better checks to whichever foe they desire to cover for the team and can cover foes like Zygarde-C and Mega Salamence that will either force Giratina-O to directly combat them to keep them in check or overwhelm it after some prior damage. Arceus-Water is the most notable one, as it can handle most Primal Groudon variants with Giratina-O and can sponge attacks from special variants of Primal Groudon and Ho-Oh, which Giratina-O cannot switch into consistently. Arceus-Dark soft checks Necrozma-DM and Yveltal while benefiting from Giratina-O drawing in and statusing checks like Xerneas. Various Steel-types like Necrozma-DM and Ferrothorn can pivot into Toxic and Fairy-type attacks aimed at Giratina-O. Practically any Steel-type appreciates Giratina-O's ability to stand against Primal Groudon and can set entry hazards or spread status in return. Magearna is a notable partner that can pivot into both Xerneas and Yveltal, provide cleric support, and benefit from Giratina-O's Defog support, preventing Spikes from rapidly wearing it down. Stealth Rock users like Primal Groudon and Necrozma-DM can prevent defensive Ho-Oh and Yveltal from recklessly switching into Giratina-O and can run Toxic to cripple Defog users and support Arceus formes, giving Giratina-O an easier time to deal with foes that it would need poisoned to deal with. Flying-types enjoy Giratina-O's Defog support and can also function as secondary checks to Primal Groudon offensively or defensively. Ho-Oh is one of the Pokemon that benefit the most from the absence of Stealth Rock to be able to pivot into Fairy-types, absorb status moves reasonably well, pressure Steel-types, check some Primal Groudon variants, and spread status to make Giratina-O's Hex easier to utilize. Yveltal offensively checks Ghost-types, cripples special walls with Taunt, and benefits from Giratina-O's ability to leave Arceus formes crippled by status or a large amount of damage they took while combating it. Mega Salamence can absorb status moves for Giratina-O to use boosted Facade and can have a better chance to sweep after its checks like Steel- and Fairy-types have been pressured by Giratina-O. Mega Gengar and Giratina-O can work together to spread various status ailments and facilitate their attempts to prey on as many foes with boosted Hex as possible. Mega Gengar can trap and dispose of Fairy-types and special walls, while Giratina-O can pivot into threats like Primal Groudon and Ho-Oh that Mega Gengar struggles to deal with. Trapping and removing Stealth Rock users like Arceus-Fairy that Giratina-O cannot effectively deal with is also appreciated. Toxapex can set Toxic Spikes to ease Giratina-O's attempts to damage foes with boosted Hex, take advantage of Arceus-Fairy, and check Marshadow and Ho-Oh. In return, Giratina-O can pivot into Ground-type attacks aimed at Toxapex. Cleric support from Xerneas, Chansey, and Blissey can be helpful to prevent Giratina-O from losing too much HP from status. Chansey and Blissey can also support Giratina-O with Wish to further extend its longevity.

Moves Hex is Giratina-O's main STAB move. While its Base Power is lower than that of Shadow Ball, it inflicts double the damage against any Pokemon afflicted with status. Draco Meteor hits Pokemon immune or resistant to Ghost-type attacks for massive damage. It also hits Pokemon without status harder than Hex. Thunder Wave is used to cripple switch-ins like Xerneas and Arceus formes so Giratina-O can then hit them with a boosted Hex. Finally, Defog is used to remove entry hazards. Shadow Sneak is a noteworthy option; it's a decent priority move that deals great damage to Latios, Latias, Mewtwo, Deoxys-A, and Deoxys-S. Dragon Tail can be considered too because it allows Giratina-O to phaze Extreme Killer Arceus and Primal Groudon. Set Details 252 EVs in Defense are used to make sure Giratina-O survives a +2 Shadow Claw from Adamant Extreme Killer Arceus after Stealth Rock damage. It also gives it enough bulk to survive two +2 Stone Edge hits from Arceus-Ground after Stealth Rock damage. Note that Giratina-O has high base HP, so investing the EVs in Defense instead is more effective and gives it better physical bulk. 244 EVs in Special Attack with a Modest nature make Giratina-O hit for maximum damage. Finally, 12 Speed EVs let Giratina-O outpace maximum Speed Diancie before it Mega Evolves. Usage Tips Switch in Giratina-O on Primal Groudon, as it's immune to Ground-type attacks. Once Giratina-O is in, you can either use Defog, use Draco Meteor, or predict the switch out and use Thunder Wave. Lead with it against Deoxys-S; it will be wary of using Taunt turn one because Shadow Sneak 2HKOes it, so you can use Thunder Wave and then Defog or Hex to KO it and prevent it from setting up Stealth Rock on your side. Giratina-O also checks Extreme Killer Arceus, so don't hesitate to switch it in if needed. It also checks Mega Salamence in a pinch, as it survives a +1 Double-Edge. Finally, keep Giratina-O safe from poison and burn because status wears it down very quickly. Team Options Pair Giratina-O with Pokemon carrying status moves like Klefki, Primal Groudon, and support Arceus formes so it can utilize Hex more easily. Pairing it with Hex Mega Gengar is encouraged too, as double Hex works well in the metagame. Giratina-O can only significantly damage Ho-Oh when the latter is afflicted with status, so a solid check to it like Arceus-Water is mandatory, especially considering that Ho-Oh can burn Giratina-O with Sacred Fire or inflict huge damage on it with Brave Bird. Furthermore, Arceus-Water provides a secondary Primal Groudon check and can also check Mega Diancie, a Pokemon that hugely annoys Giratina-O. Dark-type Pokemon greatly threaten this Giratina-O set, so Fairy-type Pokemon like Klefki and Xerneas should be supporting it. Finally, solid checks to Xerneas like Primal Groudon and Ho-Oh are important, while a switch-in to Dragon-type moves like Klefki is needed to take the Draco Meteor of the faster Latios and Latias.

Moves Defog is used to clear entry hazards and free up an Arceus slot. Shadow Sneak allows Giratina-O to anti-lead Deoxys-A and Deoxys-S; priority has a lot of utility in general. Dragon Tail allows Giratina-O to phaze setup sweepers that would be difficult to stop otherwise, such as Rock Polish Primal Groudon and Extreme Killer Arceus. Shadow Force is a very strong physical attack in general coming from a decent base 120 Attack stat further boosted by Griseous Orb. It also stops Geomancy Xerneas from setting up, as it hopefully puts Xerneas in range of Shadow Sneak after a bit of prior damage. Earthquake can hit Primal Groudon, Klefki, and Diancie super effectively. Will-O-Wisp gives Giratina-O a second way to deal with physical attackers besides Dragon Tail, and it should be used if a team absolutely needs a burn on setup sweepers such as Ground and Extreme Killer Arceus. It also gets passive damage on Pokemon such as Ferrothorn, Yveltal, and Clefable. Lastly, Stone Edge is a viable move used to deal with Ho-Oh, which Giratina-O often lures in, and hit Yveltal on the switch. It should be noted that if the role of entry hazard removal is already fulfilled by one of Giratina-O's teammates, another move can replace Defog on this set, making Giratina-O more of a specific check for physical attackers than an entry hazard-controlling support Pokemon. Set Details Griseous Orb is the mandatory item for Giratina-O. 248 Defense EVs allow Giratina-O to evade the KO from a +2 Adamant Extreme Killer Arceus's Shadow Claw after Stealth Rock damage. 12 Speed EVs let Giratina-O outpace maximum Speed Diancie before it Mega Evolves. The remaining EVs are placed into Attack and give Giratina-O the ability to hit harder in general; for example, with the EVs, Giratina-O has a stronger Shadow Sneak for picking off weakened foes, deals more chip damage with Dragon Tail, and hits Xerneas harder with Shadow Force. However, an alternative spread of 148 HP / 100 Atk / 248 Def / 12 Spe, which invests enough Attack to 2HKO Mewtwo with Shadow Sneak, can be used with Earthquake; otherwise, if running Shadow Force, maximum Attack investment is important to hit Xerneas harder. Usage Tips It is important to try to utilize immunities and resistances to get Giratina-O in safely. The need to use Defog should often be weighed, as having Stealth Rock up on your opponent's side can greatly increase the effectiveness of spamming Dragon Tail. However, be wary when the opponent has a Fairy-type Pokemon in the back when spamming Dragon Tail. Finally, try to minimize the residual damage that Giratina-O takes, as the lack of recovery makes Giratina-O susceptible to being worn down. If Giratina-O is needed to check a specific threat, it is important to preserve Giratina-O's HP. Team Options Entry hazard support is greatly appreciated to make Dragon Tail more effective. Bulky Stealth Rock setters make for the best partners; two examples are Dialga and Primal Groudon. Stealth Rock setters that can set up consistently over the course of a match are greatly preferred over suicide entry hazard leads. Giratina-O also appreciates teammates that check Fairy-types, such as Klefki, Scizor, Metagross, Aegislash, Jirachi, Ho-Oh, and Primal Groudon. It should be noted that the Fairy checks with a secondary Ghost or Psychic typing can compound weaknesses to Dark-types, which is not ideal. Giratina-O also appreciates Fairy-types such as Xerneas, Clefable, and Klefki as partners, because they check Dark-types for Giratina-O. Wish and cleric support from the likes of Blissey, Clefable, and Diancie on bulkier teams can keep Giratina-O healthy and prevent it from being overwhelmed. Offensive Arceus formes such as Swords Dance Arceus-Ground and Calm Mind Arceus-Dark appreciate the Defog role filled by Giratina-O, because this means that a support Arceus forme does not need to be used.

Originally Giratina-O's flagship set, this set has fallen out of favor mainly due to the other sets being more versatile, as well as Arceus-Ghost being a more reliable Calm Mind user. However, this set still has distinct advantages. The ability to create massive Substitutes, coupled with immunity to Toxic Spikes, allow Giratina-O to set up easily on classic stall teams that are relatively slow and lacking in firepower. With its Ghost-typing and a number of other resistances, Giratina-O can set up easily on Seismic Toss and other weak attacks. In general, a classic stall team would have to either sacrifice or allow heavy damage to be taken by a key Pokemon, usually Latias, to take down Giratina-O. This allows you to take advantage of that hole with other sweepers. Dragon Pulse is the preferred STAB attack as it is more powerful, while hitting the numerous Dragon-types in the metagame such as Palkia for super effective damage. Shadow Ball, while weaker, hits Lugia and Arceus-Ghost for super effective damage, two Pokemon that can be seen on stall teams. It also hits stall Mewtwo for super effective damage. As for the last slot, Aura Sphere best complements Dragon Pulse or Shadow Ball for its ability to hit Steel-types, most notably Ferrothorn and Excadrill, as well as being the only attack that can threaten Tyranitar. Thunder hits most Steel-types with the exception of Excadrill and Forretress hard, as well hitting Skarmory for super effective damage. It also hits Lugia for super effective damage, making it a good choice if Shadow Ball is not used. It also smacks Kyogre incredibly hard. Finally, Shadow Ball can be used as a secondary STAB attack which is Giratina-O's best weapon against Jirachi as well as being able to hit Arceus-Ghost while keeping Dragon Pulse. However, its inability to hit most other Steel-types makes it relatively undesirable. The EVs listed allow Giratina-O to survive an Outrage from Choice Scarf Garchomp, as well as Choice Scarf Spacial Rend from Palkia without a Calm Mind boost. The remainder is put into Special Attack and a Modest nature is used to give Giratina-O as much power as possible. In terms of other moves that Giratina-O can use, Hidden Power Fire can be used to OHKO Forretress and deal huge damage to Ferrothorn, however, it is quite weak otherwise. Earth Power can used to OHKO Heatran and deal significant damage to Tyranitar. Giratina-O, being a stallbreaker, works by forcing key Pokemon on stall teams to sacrifice themselves to take it down. This allows other Pokemon to take advantage of the absence of those key defenders. For example, a boosting Giratina-O would force Latias to come in and stop it, severely damaging itself in the process. Pokemon such as Calm Mind Kyogre, Lustrous Orb Palkia, and Calm Mind Arceus-Fighting pose a much bigger threat with Latias out of commission. If using Thunder, it can lure in Pokemon such as Lugia and specially defensive Kyogre to take a lot of damage to phaze it out. Again, Calm Mind Arceus-Fighting works well with these two severely damaged. Kyurem-W finds much easier to mindlessly spam Ice Beam when Kyogre is out of the way. Giratina-O can obviously still act as a spinblocker with its Ghost-typing, which means the more entry hazards on the opposing side, the better. If Thunder is used, then Kyogre support is preferred for perfect accuracy, although it is not compulsory. Giratina-O also appreciates Wish support from Blissey, Chansey, or Jirachi. Depending on the moves used, Giratina-O will find it hard to bust through certain Pokemon. If it lacks Shadow Ball, it will find it hard to get past Arceus-Ghost, Deoxys-D, or (if Giratina-O also lacks Thunder) Lugia. If it lacks Aura Sphere, it will fail to defeat Tyranitar and will also have problems against Ferrothorn that carries Gyro Ball. If it lacks Dragon Pulse, it will potentially have a lot more trouble against balanced and offensive teams that have more powerful Dragon-types. Darkrai is an excellent teammate to run alongside SubCM Giratina-O to defeat Arceus-Ghost and Lugia. Groudon and other bulky Ground-types defeat Tyranitar as well as being able to defeat Ferrothorn. Arceus-Fighting does something very similar. For Dragon-types that threaten to take down Giratina-O, Steel-types are obviously the best Pokemon to go to. Arceus-Steel, Jirachi, Forretress, and Ferrothorn are just a few of many good Steel-types.

This set takes advantage of pretty much all of Giratina-O's fabulous qualities. If given a free turn, it is a monster. Dragon Tail is the main attack, allowing Giratina-O to deal respectable damage while simultaneously racking up entry hazard damage. Shadow Sneak picks off wounded opponents from all the entry hazard damage, while also allowing Giratina-O to check weakened Latias, Latios, Arceus-Ghost, and Mewtwo. For the third slot, Earthquake is preferred as it hits many Rapid Spinners for heavy damage, most notably Mold Breaker Excadrill, Tentacruel, and Kabutops, and also allows Giratina-O to hit Tyranitar for super effective damage. However, Will-O-Wisp allows Giratina-O to cripple many physical attackers, most notably ExtremeKiller Arceus and Groudon. As for the final slot, Substitute is the best option, as it allows Giratina-O to avoid status and gives it free rein to spam Dragon Tail. Magic Coat, however, stops Giratina-O from becoming hazard fodder, doing very well against Spiking leads, as well as surprising Darkrai that think they can spam Dark Void indiscriminately. Outrage can be used in the third or fourth slot for more power. Aqua Tail can be used on rain teams to hit Gliscor. Stone Edge can be used to OHKO Ho-Oh. However, these moves are relatively specific and therefore you should only use them to plug up certain holes in your team. Maximum Attack EVs allows Dragon Tail to be as powerful as possible. 84 Speed EVs allow Giratina-O to outspeed minimum Speed Tentacruel and Jirachi, and smack them incredibly hard with Earthquake. 164 HP EVs gives Giratina-O a large amount of bulk while minimizing damage from Stealth Rock, and the rest go into Defense to give Genesect, which tend to run a physical Choice Scarf set, a Special Attack boost. One thing to remember when using Giratina-O is that while is it is a very sturdy spinblocker, it needs to be careful in switching into common Rapid Spinners, as they have many ways to disrupt it. Forretress and Excadrill often carry Toxic, Kabutops can hit Giratina-O very hard with Stone Edge, while Tentacruel can either burn Giratina-O with Scald, or use Ice Beam for chip damage that prevents Giratina-O from setting up Substitutes. Being a spinblocker, Giratina-O obviously operates best when the opponent's side is littered with entry hazards. Forretress, Ferrothorn, Skarmory, and Deoxys-S are just a few of the good entry hazard users in the metagame. Since Giratina-O has no means of recovery, Wish and Heal Bell support is highly appreciated. Chansey and Blissey can provide both relatively reliably, while synergizing well with Giratina-O. Jirachi can also pass relatively large Wishes to Giratina-O. In terms of weather, Giratina-O prefers sun or rain, since they do not cause it to take residual damage, meaning that Groudon and Kyogre are good teammates. In the same vein, removing Stealth Rock through Rapid Spin also helps Giratina-O last longer. Excadrill, Kabutops, Tentacruel, Starmie, and Forretress are the most reliable Rapid Spin users in the tier. Rapid Spin also helps the fact that Giratina-O tends to attract entry hazard layers, and even if Giratina-O is immune to both Spikes and Toxic Spikes, they are still detrimental to the rest of its team. Pokemon that can take on Giratina-O's weaknesses are obvious teammates. Arceus-Fighting with Toxic, RestTalk Kyogre, and Ho-Oh are excellent counters to Darkrai and Arceus-Ghost. A Darkrai of your own can also take on Arceus-Ghost. Steel-types can switch into Dragon-types that seek to beat down Giratina-O. Many of those Steel-types can also set up entry hazards that Giratina-O can so readily abuse. A number of these Steel-types, such as Jirachi and Arceus-Steel, can also take on Kyurem-W which also poses a great threat to Giratina-O. Lugia tends to not care about anything Giratina-O can do, apart from Toxic that can get bounced back by Magic Coat. Darkrai, Zekrom, and Kyurem-W can also defeat Lugia quite easily. Ho-Oh that invest EVs into Defense take zero net damage from Dragon Tail due to Regenerator. The easiest way to deal with these two is to set up Stealth Rock as soon as possible, which is rather convenient, as Giratina-O block Rapid Spin. The only Pokemon left that stops Stealth Rock are Pokemon with the ability, Magic Bounce. Fortunately, the Pokemon that have Magic Bounce are generally quite weak and fragile. Dialga sets up Stealth Rock very reliably against Xatu and Espeon. Deoxys-A is generally too threatening for Xatu and Espeon to block, while Mold Breaker Excadrill ignores Magic Bounce completely.

This set aims to address the biggest thorn in Giratina-O's side—the lack of recovery. This set allows Giratina-O to last longer and care less about residual damage. This set also allows Giratina-O to take advantage of +0 priority phazing when it is asleep with Sleep Talk. The last slot depends on what you want Giratina-O to do. Roar is preferred to maximize +0 priority phazing, which gives a higher chance for Giratina-O to phaze. Shadow Sneak lets Giratina-O revenge kill Deoxys-A, weakened Mewtwo, Latios, and Latias, while Outrage allows Giratina-O to hit hard, and does not lock it in when it is asleep. Max Speed and a Jolly nature allow Giratina-O to at the least speed-tie with all Pokemon with base 90 Speed, allowing it force out as many Pokemon as possible. If Giratina-O is using Outrage, it also allows Giratina-O to outspeed Adamant Rayquaza and revenge kill it. The EVs can be changed, however. Giratina-O can either invest in Attack or Defense at the cost of Speed. Attack EVs can be used to patch up Dragon Tail's low base power, while Defense EVs allow Giratina-O to take on Extreme Killer Arceus and other physical attackers better. In terms of other moves that can be used in the last moveslot, Hidden Power Fire can be used to defeat Forretress, Will-O-Wisp can cripple physical attackers such as Extreme Killer Arceus and Groudon, and Earthquake can be used to hit Tyranitar and Excadrill for super effective damage. If Giratina-O is not using Shadow Sneak, it may be a good idea to carry a relatively sturdy Mewtwo check, as Shadow Sneak goes a long in helping to take it down. Entry hazard layers thrive with Giratina-O's spinblocking support. Rapid Spin users are ideal teammates, as Giratina-O tends to be helpless in stopping opposing entry hazard layers, unless Hidden Power Fire (for Forretress) or Shadow Sneak (for Deoxys-S) is used. While this Giratina-O set has usable recovery, it still prefers to not get hit by sandstorm or hail, therefore Groudon or Kyogre support are still preferred. RestTalk Kyogre, Arceus-Fighting with Toxic, and Ho-Oh are excellent counters to Darkrai, Arceus-Ghost, and Arceus-Dark, which can all threaten Giratina-O. Kyogre and Ho-Oh also handle Kyurem-W relatively well. Steel-types such as Ferrothorn, Skarmory, Forretress, Arceus-Steel, and Scizor can switch into Dragon-types. A Darkrai of your own, as well as Kyurem-W and Zekrom, can easily take out Lugia, while Arceus-Rock counters Ho-Oh.

A staple of late DPP and early BW, mixed attacking Giratina-O takes full advantage of its offensive prowess. It is an excellent check to offensive Ground-types, namely Groudon and Landorus-T. Draco Meteor obliterates Groudon that do not invest in Special Defense while hitting very hard in general. Shadow Sneak revenge kills weakened Psychic-types and Arceus-Ghost. Dragon Tail allows Giratina-O to do what it normally does (take advantage of entry hazards), although Outrage can be used to 2HKO Ho-Oh. Hidden Power Fire is the most preferable option as it OHKOes Forretress in the sun and severely damages it in neutral weather, while also 2HKOing Ferrothorn. Thunder is the better move to use in the rain to hit Steel-types, 2HKOing Skarmory, as well as hitting Kyogre very hard. Earthquake allows Giratina-O to 2HKO both Tyranitar and Excadrill. Max Attack and Special Attack is preferred as it allows Giratina-O to hit as hard as possible, leaning more towards Attack since Giratina-O's weaker attacks (Shadow Sneak and Dragon Tail) are physical, and thus need as much investment as possible. A good EV spread if you're using Hidden Power Fire is 248 Atk / 64 SpA / 196 Spe with a Naive nature. This allows Giratina-O to outspeed Swords Dance Rayquaza and revenge kill it with Draco Meteor. If you're using Thunder, 112 Atk / 204 SpA / 192 Spe with a Naive nature still outspeeds Adamant Rayquaza, and the additional Special Attack allows Giratina-O to 3HKO Forretress. Will-O-Wisp allows Giratina-O to cripple physical attackers such as Groudon and ExtremeKiller Arceus. Substitute eases prediction, and Stone Edge OHKOes Ho-Oh. Magic Coat allows Giratina-O to bounce Dark Void back at Darkrai, as well as bounce back entry hazards. Tailwind can either allow Giratina-O to clean up late-game or facilitate a teammate's sweep. If Tailwind is used, Outrage is preferable to Dragon Tail as the physical STAB attack, due to its lack of negative priority. Entry hazard layers thrive with Giratina-O serving as a spinblocker. Depending on the choice of last attack, sun or rain support is appreciated. If Hidden Power Fire is used, Groudon support allows Giratina-O to OHKO Forretress, while Kyogre is an ideal teammate if Giratina-O is using Thunder. Giratina-O also appreciates Wish support from Blissey, Chansey, or Jirachi. RestTalk Kyogre, Arceus-Fighting with Toxic, and Ho-Oh are once again excellent counters to Darkrai, Arceus-Ghost, and Arceus-Dark, which can all threaten Giratina-O as per usual. Kyogre and Ho-Oh also handle Kyurem-W relatively well. Steel-types such as Ferrothorn, Skarmory, Forretress, Arceus-Steel, and Scizor can switch into Dragon-types. A Darkrai of your own, as well as Kyurem-W and Zekrom, can easily defeat Lugia, while Arceus-Rock counters Ho-Oh.

Moves Draco Meteor is very effective in the Dragon-heavy Ubers metagame. Shadow Sneak allows Giratina-O to finish off weakened foes and is particularly effective against Ghost-weak foes, including Latios, Latias, Mewtwo, Deoxys-S, and Deoxys-A. Thunder lets Giratina-O threaten Kyogre without dropping its Special Attack and, if Kyogre is on its team, blast Steel-types like Bronzong and Skarmory effectively; it can also spread paralysis, which benefits itself and its teammates. Hidden Power Fire in the sun is more threatening to these Steel-types, however. Giratina-O's final move increases the reach of foes that it can threaten; Outrage significantly threatens Blissey, opening up specially offensive teammates, while Earthquake destroys Heatran, which can often be irritating for many teams reliant on Dragon- and Steel-types. Stone Edge can be used to ensure that Ho-Oh that would enter on Giratina-O cannot do so safely, especially if it banks on sun making Thunder an unreliable option. Aura Sphere is Giratina-O's strongest attack to hit Tyranitar and does good damage to Steel-types like Dialga and Heatran. Set Details Giratina-O has many viable EV spreads in DPP Ubers, but only a handful of them will be presented here for brevity's sake. 200 Defense EVs allow Giratina-O to survive Choice Scarf Garchomp's Outrage after Stealth Rock. 64 Attack EVs let Giratina-O's Shadow Sneak break Substitute from Giratina-O that invest Defense in this way. 60 Speed EVs allow Giratina-O to outspeed Adamant Scizor, even if it carries Hidden Power Fire. If used in the lead position, 116 Speed EVs are also an option so that it outspeeds Jolly Tyranitar; this should be used if Giratina-O uses Aura Sphere. Maximum Speed EVs and a Naive nature let Giratina-O make the most of its offensive profile by, at worst, Speed tying other metagame staples like Kyogre, Groudon, Dialga, and Ho-Oh. This fast spread is the best way to use Stone Edge Giratina-O, since it can surprise Ho-Oh with it. If using Hidden Power Fire with a Naive nature, Giratina-O loses the opportunity to Speed tie with other base 90 Speed Pokemon, so it can use only 196 Speed EVs so that it will outspeed Adamant Rayquaza. In the inverse direction, certain Giratina-O sets may opt for a Speed-reducing nature instead of a Special Defense-reducing one so that it can use its defensive profile to take attacks from Kyogre. For example, a spread of 64 Atk / 200 Def / 228 SpA / 16 SpD with a Quiet nature lets it take Choice Specs Kyogre's Ice Beam in the lead position. Usage Tips Mixed Giratina-O is a versatile Pokemon that can make an impact in any phase of the game. Mid-game, Giratina-O is an excellent spinblocker and benefits greatly from the entry hazards that it protects because they make its already strong attacks even more threatening. This is accentuated with Levitate, which not only lets it ignore Spikes and Toxic Spikes, letting it outlast other Ubers staples, but also lets it pivot into Groudon's STAB move, letting it pound it with Draco Meteor. Hazards passively weaken foes into range of Giratina-O's powerful Shadow Sneak, giving it some prowess as a revenge killer. Shadow Sneak also lets Giratina-O remain useful if it has taken a big hit like Kyogre's Ice Beam, Groudon's Dragon Claw, or Ho-Oh's Brave Bird and would be taken out by a revenge killer. This quality also benefits it late-game, when more of the opposing team has been weakened and is in range of Shadow Sneak. Mixed Giratina-O also has a niche in the lead slot, as it prevents Deoxys-S, Deoxys-A, and Froslass leads from setting up multiple layers of entry hazards. While it fears Rayquaza, Tyranitar, and Darkrai; can be taken advantage of by Ho-Oh; and trades damage unfavorably with Kyogre, it is unconcerned by leads like Tentacruel and Forretress that aren't trying to deal big damage out. Therefore, lead Giratina-O fits on more defensive teams, which hate getting multiple layers of hazards stacked on them but can handle the loss of momentum caused by Giratina-O retreating from offensive leads. One of the considerations of lead Giratina-O when staying in is that it doesn't like to take too much damage while facing opposing leads because it likes to be healthy mid-game. Team Options Giratina-O really likes to be paired with entry hazards, particularly Spikes. Deoxys-S and Froslass can set up Spikes in the lead position, and Skarmory can do so mid-game. Stealth Rock setters like Dialga, Groudon, and Bronzong also benefit Giratina-O, as Stealth Rock pairs well with Spikes. In return, Giratina-O reliably spinblocks against Forretress and Tentacruel. Giratina-O should be paired with Kyogre if using Thunder or Groudon if using Hidden Power Fire. Kyogre can deal with Ho-Oh, which can take advantage of Giratina-O, and Groudon can help against physical Dragon-types like Rayquaza and Giratina-O. Giratina-O, especially bulkier variants, is a very solid check against Groudon but struggles against Kyogre, so pairing it with a reliable check to it is useful; Palkia, Latias, and Latios do well against Kyogre. Steel-types like Bronzong and Jirachi are useful to handle Dragon-types. Darkrai is a massive threat to Giratina-O, so teammates like bulky Kyogre, Choice Scarf Dialga, and Mewtwo are good to have. Giratina-O weakens physical and special walls for sweepers like Dragon Dance Rayquaza, Swords Dance Lucario, Rock Polish Groudon, and Calm Mind Kyogre; these Pokemon also appreciate Giratina-O's ability to protect hazards so that their checks are put into range of their attacks.

Giratina-O can run a physical RestTalk set fairly effectively too, eliminating any worries about status and residual damage. The combination of Rest and Sleep Talk means that Lugia would be unable to do anything to it apart from setting up Reflect or Whirlwinding him away. Outrage is Giratina-O's weapon of choice, because it is very devastating to most Ubers, as previously mentioned in the physical attacker set. When picked by Sleep Talk, Outrage loses its locking side-effect, and essentially becomes a 120 Base Power STAB move with no drawbacks. This is extremely helpful for Giratina-O, because most of the other sets are easily revenge killed when he's locked into Outrage. Shadow Force is the preferred option out of the three moves listed on the second attack slot, as it cannot be picked with Sleep Talk, giving Giratina-O a higher chance of firing off a very deadly Outrage. This is a win-win situation, as when Giratina-O is awake, he has two powerful offensive moves to choose from, and when he is asleep, he has a high chance of picking consequence-free Outrage with Sleep Talk. If one were to find Shadow Force distasteful, you can choose either Shadow Claw or Earthquake as a replacement. While both of these moves interfere with Sleep Talk's chances of picking Outrage, they are more reliable than Shadow Force when Giratina-O is awake. Earthquake gives coverage against Steel-types, while Shadow Claw decimates Psychic-types. Again, the EVs used allow Giratina-O to survive a Timid Palkia's Spacial Rend while outspeeding Jolly Tyranitar. If you don't mind the loss of Speed, a spread of 200 HP / 44 Def / 224 Atk / 40 SpD can be used so Forretress never 3HKOes with Payback, while also allowing Giratina-O to take some abuse on the special side. Much like the Physical Attacker set, Giratina-O will struggle against Forretress, Skarmory, and Scizor. A Groudon with Overheat can be helpful here, as he can lure in Skarmory and OHKO it outright. Groudon can also take any of Scizor's attacks, and hit back with either Fire Punch or Overheat. A Choice Specs Kyogre can also switch in while Scizor uses Bullet Punch, or while Skarmory and Forretress use anything else, and OHKO them all with Surf or Water Spout. A support Dialga can also be helpful for similar purposes, being able to roast all three Steel-types with Fire Blast, while also being able to set up Stealth Rock.

Giratina-O is a fantastic special sweeper and sports some valuable qualities that other special sweepers can only wish for. He has a great Special Attack stat, complemented by Calm Mind and a myriad of special attacks at his disposal. Being part Dragon-type gives Giratina-O an amazing STAB. His Ghost typing grants him immunity to Seismic Toss, shutting down Blissey's main method of damage, while any attempt to hurt Giratina-O with status is rendered useless by Substitute. Giratina-O's bulk is no laughing matter either, especially when they are coupled with Levitate, which makes him immune to Spikes and Toxic Spikes. To top it all off, Giratina-O has the ever elusive immunity to the item-removing effects of Trick and Knock Off. Dragon Pulse is a good option in general and is only resisted by Steel-types not named Dialga. Giratina-O can use Dragon Pulse to OHKO Rayquaza and Palkia and 2HKO Groudon without even using Calm Mind. Shadow Ball is a powerful STAB move that provides an easy KO on Mewtwo and deals more damage to other Psychic-types than Dragon Pulse, which includes Metagross and Lugia. Thunder inflicts massive damage to Kyogre while possibly causing paralysis, which aids Giratina-O in his sweep. After one use of Calm Mind, Giratina-O has an excellent chance of OHKOing 4 HP / 0 SpD Kyogre with Thunder after Stealth Rock damage. Substitute is a great defense against status, shutting down standard Blissey in the Ubers metagame while simultaneously aiding prediction. Be careful though, as Giratina-O has no recovery, so his ability to throw out Substitutes is very limited, so make each Substitute count. Aura Sphere allows Giratina-O to severely damage Dialga, Blissey, and most importantly, always 2HKO Tyranitar. If one does not care about Blissey, Calm Mind and 3 attacks can be used for maximum coverage. Finally, there's the option to drop Dragon Pulse in favor of the unresisted combination of Aura Sphere and Shadow Ball; while Giratina-O loses super effective coverage against Dragon-types and some power against Kyogre and Latias, he is compensated by super effective coverage on Psychic-types as well as Tyranitar and Dialga. 112 Speed EVs allow Giratina-O to outrun Jolly Tyranitar and most Kyogre and Groudon while outspeeding Jirachi who do not invest in Speed, which means that Giratina-O can set up a Substitute before Jirachi gets to Toxic or paralyze him. The defensive EVs give him guaranteed survival against a Spacial Rend from Timid Palkia after Stealth Rock damage and Dragon Claw from Groudon without Stealth Rock. The rest of the EVs go into Special Attack to allow Giratina-O to hit as hard as possible. Giratina-O is an excellent choice on offensive teams that require a way to beat stall. Recall that a classic Ubers stall team often consists of Groudon, Forretress, Blissey, Latias, Giratina, and a filler (often Lugia). Giratina-O can switch in on Blissey without much of a problem and threaten devastation. The only Pokemon who can prevent this devastation from occurring is Latias, and in order to do so, she must sacrifice herself to deal massive damage to Giratina-O, ensuring that he is unusable afterwards. The loss of Latias enables Pokemon like Calm Mind Kyogre to demolish the remaining team members. Giratina-O's main attraction here is that he can threaten a sweep against stall teams unless he is stopped promptly, and the Pokemon who do try to stop him often fall shortly afterwards, opening up a potential sweep for another member of your team. An important thing to note when using Giratina-O is that, despite his many resistances and excellent HP and defensive stats, Giratina-O has no form of recovery in this set, and therefore it is not recommended to switch Giratina-O into powerful attacks. Instead, it is best to switch Giratina-O into moves that he is immune to. Wobbuffet can use his combination of Encore and Shadow Tag to force opponents to repeat support moves, such as Toxic and Stealth Rock, or moves that Giratina-O is immune to, such as Earthquake. Wobbuffet can then use Safeguard if he has Encored a status move, and provide a free switch in for Giratina-O. Offensive partners that are good teammates for this set are Pokemon who can set up entry hazards or those who can take advantage of Giratina-O's ability to weaken his switch-ins. Deoxys-S is a great entry hazard user that can get Stealth Rock and Spikes up early on in the game, while Forretress can set up all three types of entry hazards. Giratina-O can then switch in on predicted Rapid Spins, keeping the offensive momentum on your side and proceed to set up with Calm Mind. If Giratina-O has used Calm Mind once, he can severely weaken or KO most Dialga, Kyogre (with Thunder), and Tyranitar (with Aura Sphere). Weakening a Choice Scarf Dialga would mean that Swords Dance Rayquaza or Lucario can sweep an opponent's team unchecked. The removal of Kyogre would allow Mewtwo, Darkrai, and Lugia to set up much more easily, while any team based around Groudon's Drought ability would also appreciate Kyogre's retirement. Ho-Oh in particular will be much harder to stop after Kyogre is eliminated. With Tyranitar severely weakened or KOed, stopping Calm Mind Mewtwo or Calm Mind Latias or Latios will be much more difficult for the opponent. Tyranitar is Giratina-O's arch enemy, especially if Giratina-O lacks Aura Sphere. The combination of Tyranitar's powerful STAB Dark attacks and the sandstorm he summons will dramatically cut Giratina-O's life short. Groudon and Garchomp can switch into Tyranitar with ease and threaten him with STAB Earthquake. Groudon also changes the weather, meaning that Giratina-O will not have to face the damaging effects of Tyranitar's sandstorm. Lucario can freely switch into Dark-type attacks and threaten Tyranitar with Close Combat. Forretress is another threat as it can use Payback and Light Screen to defeat Giratina-O one on one. Lucario, Groudon, and Dialga can easily switch into Forretress and set up for a sweep. If one does not want to sacrifice Giratina-O to take down Latias, then Scizor and Metagross are good teammates to use alongside Giratina-O. Both can cripple Latias with Pursuit if she decides to switch out or KO her with the appropriate STAB move should she stay in. Blissey is also a reliable switch-in for most Latias.

While the special sweeper set may be very appealing, one cannot forget that Giratina-O's Attack stat is equivalent to its Special Attack. It is a force to be reckoned with, hitting most Pokemon in Ubers in their softer physical defenses. With access to a STAB 120 Base Power Outrage, which is boosted further by Griseous Orb, it is not to be taken lightly. However, being locked into Outrage can be displeasing, as Giratina-O has mediocre Speed and is weak to Dragon-type attacks, making it very susceptible to the rampant Draco Meteors of Ubers. This can often be remedied by setting up Substitute before attacking to minimize punishment during the turns in which Giratina-O is locked into Outrage. Substitute also protects Giratina-O in case your opponent switches to a counter during Shadow Force's charge turn. Earthquake pairs up with Outrage pretty well as it takes care of Steel-types. The EV spread used allows Giratina-O to outspeed Jolly Tyranitar, while having enough bulk to survive a Timid Palkia's Spacial Rend after Stealth Rock. The rest are placed in Attack so Giratina-O hits as hard as possible. Many people view Shadow Force as terrible due to the fact that it's a charge up move. Shadow Force isn't necessarily a great move, but it's certainly quite underrated, and it packs quite a punch. The only Normal-type Pokemon commonly seen in Ubers is Blissey, who fears Outrage and thus would never switch into physical Giratina-O. Even if Blissey switches in after seeing Giratina-O using Shadow Force, she is unable to do anything to Giratina-O anyway, which allows it to set up a free Substitute. Once the opponent's Normal-type is gone, Shadow Force can deal massive damage to even Pokemon that resist it, like Darkrai. Shadow Force also OHKOes physically defensive Mewtwo, something that Shadow Claw cannot achieve. One possible good moment to use Shadow Force is when Giratina-O's weakened opponent can be KOed by it, but not by Earthquake, while Outrage is very risky to use due to its locking side-effect. A good way to use this set is to almost always use Substitute as the opponent switches out. This is because some players may suspect that Giratina-O is using a Calm Mind set, and may send in Giratina-O's usual counters, such as Tyranitar, Kyogre, Dialga, or Latias. Giratina can then 2HKO Kyogre with Outrage, 2HKO Tyranitar and Dialga with Earthquake, and can either OHKO Latias with Outrage or with Shadow Claw after Stealth Rock. Pokemon like Calm Mind Kyogre greatly appreciate the removal of Latias, while other Calm Mind users, such as Latias and Mewtwo, appreciate the removal of Tyranitar. The removal of Dialga can open up a Swords Dance Rayquaza or Lucario sweep. Physical Giratina-O is walled by four main Pokemon: Forretress, Scizor, Skarmory, and Lugia. Forretress, Scizor, and Skarmory resist both of Giratina-O's STAB attacks and take little to no damage from Earthquake. While Lugia takes a heavy amount of damage from Shadow Force, it is faster than Giratina-O, and can therefore cushion the hit with Reflect and Roost. Because of this, a Support Groudon with Fire Punch and Toxic pairs well with Giratina-O. Fire Punch will easily OHKO Forretress and Scizor, while Skarmory is 2HKOed. Groudon will often lure in Lugia, who can be crippled by Toxic. Although Magnezone does not fit on many Uber teams, it can be useful for trapping and killing Forretress, Scizor, and Skarmory. Dialga can also easily switch into the aforementioned Steel-types and threaten to roast them with Fire Blast; Dialga, like Groudon, can also use Toxic to cripple Lugia. Finally, Wobbuffet can use Encore and Tickle on Lugia, switch to Scizor, who can then OHKO Lugia with Pursuit if he attempts to switch. Something to note is that, although Kyogre is not the safest switch into Scizor, Choice Specs Kyogre can work well with physical Giratina-O because he can OHKO all four of the problem Pokemon with his STAB Water-type attacks and Thunder.

This set combines the stat-boosting threat of the Substitute + Calm Mind set with a form of recovery to take advantage of Giratina-O's bulk. At the expense of Substitute and an extra attacking move, Giratina-O gains virtual immunity to status and more freedom to switch into attacks. At first glance, it would seem that Giratina is better suited to this set due to its better bulk and access to Leftovers. However, Giratina-O does possess a fair number of advantages over Giratina. While Giratina-O may not find as much room to set up as Giratina, his higher Special Attack stat and the boost from Griseous Orb more than makes up for it. For example, Giratina needs 3 Calm Minds to match the power of a Giratina-O that has used Calm Mind once. Unlike Giratina, as well as many other sleep absorbers in the game, Giratina-O packs a unique immunity to Trick. In the later stages of the game, this immunity helps prevent Trick users from shutting down Giratina-O's setup process. Finally, Giratina-O has the useful ability Levitate, allowing him to avoid the Spikes and Toxic Spikes that trouble Giratina. Although Giratina can Rest off the damage or status caused by these entry hazards, doing so takes up valuable turns, which can be better spent setting up Calm Minds. Having an immunity to Earthquake never hurts either. The EVs give Giratina-O a balanced amount of defenses, while holding enough power to take down standard Latias with a Calm Mind boosted Dragon Pulse. The Defense EVs ensure that Payback from Forretress does not 3HKO, allowing Giratina-O to set up Calm Mind against him and Rest off the damage. A Life Orb Dragon Claw from Jolly Rayquaza will never OHKO this Giratina-O, even after Stealth Rock damage, while the Adamant variant cannot OHKO without Stealth Rock damage. On the classic Ubers stall team, the only Pokemon who will outspeed Giratina-O, after Latias is gone, is Lugia. This can be a problem, because if Stealth Rock is in play, Giratina-O will faint on the second switch in. To properly remedy this, be sure to include a Wobbuffet with Tickle and a Scizor with Pursuit on your team. Wobbuffet can Encore and then Tickle Lugia 5 times to get him into the KO range of Scizor's Pursuit as he flees. With Lugia gone, and once Giratina-O defeats Latias, he will often be able to restore his health with Rest before the opposition attacks, letting him continue his sweep in peace. Wobbuffet can also Encore moves such as Earthquake or status moves, this can provide Giratina-O with free time to either Rest to recover or Calm Mind to set up. Tyranitar will give Giratina-O some serious issues, as he is able to 2HKO with Crunch, bypassing Giratina-O's possible Calm Mind boosts. A Jolly Tyranitar can also use Taunt to prevent Giratina-O from using Sleep Talk, and then set up a sweep with Dragon Dance. A Calm Mind Lugia that has Whirlwind can also set up on Giratina-O and Whirlwind Giratina-O away. When Giratina-O is sleeping, Mewtwo can switch in and Taunt Giratina-O as he attempts to Sleep Talk; Mewtwo can then easily set up Calm Mind, as Giratina-O is now virtually helpless. A Mewtwo of your own can easily set up on opposing Calm Mind Lugia with Taunt and Calm Mind. Opposing Mewtwo that carry Taunt and Calm Mind can be taken care of by Scizor or Metagross, who can both Pursuit him as he runs or OHKO him with the appropriate STAB moves should he stay in. Finally, Tyranitar is best handled by Garchomp or Groudon. Thunder Wave Groudon is a particularly useful Pokemon to use with this Giratina-O because it's in your interest to paralyze fast threats, particularly Lugia and Mewtwo. This will allow Giratina-O to enter the battle during late-game and use Rest before they land the finishing blow.
