Elekid is an elite pivot in Little Cup, with an unmatched Speed tier and a wide range of coverage options that threaten much of the metagame. Vital Spirit provides teams another option to switch in on Spore from Foongus. Elekid's moveset is highly customizable to fit the role it plays on a team. Thunderbolt threatens high damage on Vullaby, Mareanie, and Wingull. Knock Off can weaken checks such as Mudbray and Chinchou for Elekid to KO them later in the game. Focus Blast can be used over either Thunderbolt or Knock Off to OHKO Alolan Diglett and Alolan Sandshrew. Psychic hits Foongus and Mienfoo super effectively. Volt Switch offers frail attackers such as Wingull and Stunky a safe way to enter the field on the switches that Elekid forces, while Ice Punch can be used to KO Toedscool after minimal chip from Knock Off or Psychic. Alternatively, Tera Blast Grass is used to more directly threaten the aforementioned Chinchou and Mudbray. Tera Psychic boosts the damage of Psychic against targets like Mienfoo, Foongus, and Glimmet and also makes Elekid resistant to Choice Scarf Gothita's Psychic. Elekid complements powerful but frail Pokemon like Alolan Diglett and Wingull through Volt Switch, offering safe entry for them to wallbreak. Additionally, Elekid can use Tera Blast Grass to remove their checks such as Mudbray and Chinchou, respectively. Elekid struggles to break through Grass-types like Foongus and Grookey, so Vullaby and Alolan Sandshrew make good teammates. In return, Elekid can threaten opposing Alolan Sandshrew for Vullaby and Mareanie for ally Alolan Sandshrew. Without Tera Blast Grass, Elekid struggles to get past Mudbray. A partner that can weaken Mudbray like Vullaby or Stunky can help with this.

Moves Volt Switch is Elekid's primary attack, which allows Elekid to act as a pivot and provides decent offensive potential because of Elekid's passable Special Attack stat. Thunderbolt is a more powerful STAB move that doesn't require Elekid to switch out and deals a lot of damage. Psychic is one of Elekid's main coverage moves, allowing it to hit most Fighting- and Poison-types Pokemon super effectively. Hidden Power Grass is used for hit the Ground-types and Chinchou, which can easily survive Elekid's other moves. Cross Chop is another option that Elekid can use to act as a mixed sweeper, hitting Munchlax and Steel-types like Ferroseed. Set Details 240 EVs in SpA are used to maximize Elekid's offensive capacity, and 236 EVs in Speed maximize its Speed. If Cross Chop is used, 12 EVs in Attack raise Elekid's Attack by one point. Vital Spirit benefits Elekid's Foongus matchup, blocking Spore. Life Orb boosts the power of Elekid's moves. 9 IVs in HP give Elekid 19 HP, which minimizes the recoil of Life Orb. A Timid nature is used to reach a 20 Speed, outspeeding every unboosted Pokemon and tying with Diglett, but a Hasty nature can be used if Elekid is running Cross Chop to avoid lowering its Attack stat. Usage Tips This set relies on not taking any hit, as Elekid's low bulk makes every attack dangerous, so Elekid shouldn't switch into an attacking foe. Due to its incredible Speed, Elekid can act as a revenge killer. To increase the efficacy of this set, Chinchou and Ground-types should be removed by Elekid's teammates. Chinchou, thanks to Volt Absorb, can switch into Elekid's STAB moves and recover part of its health, and many Ground-types can stomach Hidden Power Grass, as it has low power. Strong priority attackers should also be removed, as Elekid's low bulk leaves it susceptible to priority moves. Elekid should take advantage of predicted switches by using Volt Switch to gain momentum or by using Hidden Power Grass if you predict a Chinchou or Ground-type to switch in. Team Options Elekid appreciates the momentum given by slow pivoting, best provided by teammates such as Mienfoo, Vullaby, and, in some cases, Pancham and Alolan Meowth. Grass-types in general are good partners, as they can check Chinchou and the Ground-types that threaten Elekid. As such, Pokemon like Foongus and Snivy are recommended to use with it. Foongus can tank hits from many Ground-types and cripple them with Spore, and Snivy can act as a speed check with Glare, taking out every Ground-type foe with Leaf Storm. Entry hazards are important for Elekid, as it often forces switches, and the residual damage helps Elekid to knock out many Pokemon. For Stealth Rock support, Onix and Ferroseed are good choices, with the former acting as a utility lead and the latter beating some Ground-types and Shell Smash users such as Omanyte, Tirtouga, and Shellder. Dwebble and Omanyte provide Spikes support, and Mareanie can set Toxic Spikes, doing status damage to ease Elekid's job. Elekid needs Knock Off support in order to function, as many Ground-types can otherwise take Hidden Power Grass. Due to its shared checks, Pawniard is a good choice, as it can help wear down Ground- and Fighting-types. Z-Memento is useful when Elekid is weakened and it's still needed to take down some of the opponent's Pokemon. Diglett and Cottonee are the best options for this. The recoil of Life Orb can put Elekid in a bad situation sometimes, and if there are hazards set on its side of the field, Elekid is left at a disadvantage. Hazard removers like Staryu and Vullaby are useful, as they prevent Elekid from taking more residual damage. If more safety against Ground-types is needed, Slowpoke can take every hit from them thanks to its good defensive stats and Regenerator. As Chinchou and other Electric-types still hinder Elekid, trappers such as Diglett can trap them and knock them out with safety.

Analyse

Moves Thunderbolt is used as Elekid's main STAB move, while Volt Switch is used for scouting early-game and acting as a decent pivot. Psychic is a decent coverage option, as it 2HKOes Foongus, one of the most common switch-ins to Elekid. Substitute is an excellent move to use on Elekid, as it allows Elekid to bypass Sucker Punch and eliminate the Pokemon using it, as well as defeat Carvanha. Elekid can also become a decent mixed attacker by using Cross Chop. Hidden Power Ground is generally the best choice of Hidden Power, as it hits Chinchou and Magnemite, which would normally wall Elekid, for super effective damage. Hidden Power Grass can be used to maintain coverage against Chinchou, while also hitting Ground-types such as Drilbur for super effective damage. Set Details 240 Special Attack and 236 Speed EVs maximize Elekid's Speed and Special Attack, while 0 IVs in HP make it so that Elekid only loses 1 HP after taking damage from Life Orb recoil. A Timid nature allows Elekid to hit 20 Speed, although Elekid should use a Hasty nature and an EV spread of 16 Atk / 240 SpA / 236 Spe if it uses Cross Chop. Static is the preferred ability, as Elekid will lose to Foongus anyways and Static gives Elekid a clutch chance to paralyze a Pokemon that makes contact, sometimes supporting the team even when Elekid is KOed. Usage Tips Because Elekid is extremely frail, it is important to use it as a revenge killer. Elekid should not be switching into anything, as it will likely be KOed. It is also important to always use Volt Switch if Elekid is in a bad match-up or switch out if the opposing Pokemon has priority. Team Options Diglett is able to trap and KO opposing Electric-types such as Chinchou, as well as other common switch-ins to Elekid. Drilbur can perform a similar role as Diglett, but it does not have the ability to trap opponents. However, while they both have access to Stealth Rock, Drilbur also boasts Rapid Spin to support Elekid. Staryu and other bulky Water-types can KO Ground-types such as Diglett, Drilbur, and Hippopotas, but Staryu can also give Rapid Spin support. Poison-types such as Croagunk, Trubbish, and Koffing are also useful as they can wall and defeat both Foongus and Cottonee. Fire-types such as Ponyta, Houndour, and Larvesta can also be used to eliminate Grass-types. They also have the added bonus of defeating Ferroseed, which walls Elekid lacking Cross Chop with ease. Mienfoo and Fletchling can help form a decent VoltTurn core with Elekid. Knock Off users like Pawniard are very good partners, as they can remove Berry Juice from Pokemon with Sturdy and Eviolite from bulky Pokemon such as Chinchou and Foongus, which helps to wear them down faster. Entry hazard users are also important partners, as they make walls easier to break down by dealing passive damage to them.

Moves Wild Charge is Elekid's strongest physical STAB move, while Volt Switch is used to pivot and scout. Cross Chop is Elekid's best coverage move, as Fighting- and Electric-type moves have good coverage together. Fire Punch also provides good coverage by hitting common Grass-type switch-ins, but it is mostly a filler. Set Details 252 Attack and 236 Speed EVs maximize physical offensive stats, while 0 HP IVs minimize Life Orb recoil. A Hasty nature is chosen so as not to reduce Volt Switch's damage, but a Jolly nature can be used if Elekid is not using Volt Switch. Static is the best ability once again, as Elekid will always lose to Foongus and the chance to paralyze can be very crucial in certain moments. Usage Tips Elekid should be played a bit more cautiously with this set. This is because Elekid is extremely frail, while also being worn down quickly by both Life Orb and Wild Charge recoil. Elekid is best used as a revenge killer and should never switch into powerful attacks. Also, be sure to pivot around with Elekid early-game and always switch out of any priority attacks aimed at it. Team Options Diglett is able to trap and KO Chinchou, while also supporting Elekid with Stealth Rock. Drilbur does the same as Diglett, but cannot trap the opponent. However, it does have Rapid Spin and Stealth Rock to support Elekid. Staryu and other bulky Water-types can KO Ground-types such as Diglett, Drilbur, and Hippopotas, but Staryu also gives Rapid Spin support. Poison-types such as Croagunk, Trubbish and Koffing can wall and defeat both Foongus and Cottonee, although it isn't as important to use them as partners for this set. Fletchling and Mienfoo can form a decent VoltTurn core, assuming that Elekid is using Volt Switch. Knock Off users can help Elekid out a lot as they make it easier for Elekid to break down walls. Entry hazard users are also important partners, as they make walls easier to break down by dealing passive damage to them.

Analyse

The highlight of this set is Focus Punch backed by 176 Attack EVs which allows Elekid to beat Diglett as long as Elekid is behind a Substitute. This can be the key to victory in some battles, as players will often send Diglett in on Elekid even when Elekid is behind a Substitute. This is because specially defensive Diglett, the most common Diglett set, will always beat Elekid barring a critical hit or freeze from Ice Punch. 80 Special Attack EVs are used to boost Thunderbolt's damage as well as to ensure a clean 2HKO on Porygon without triggering its Sitrus Berry by using Thunderbolt then Focus Punch. Thunder Wave has great utility and gives Elekid opportunities to fish for the opponent to be fully paralyzed, making it much easier to pull off a Focus Punch. Alternatively, Hidden Power Grass in combination with Thunderbolt allows it to beat common Pokemon such as Chinchou and Wailmer, as well as the more niche Onix, and is worth considering if its team already has paralysis support elsewhere. The two strengths of the SubPunch set are its ability to take out Diglett and its ability to spread paralysis, but it still has some weaknesses to cover. Slow Pokemon like Cubone and setup sweepers like Bagon and Larvitar that can take advantage of the paralysis Elekid spreads to the opposing team are good partners. As previously mentioned, without Hidden Power Grass, this set really struggles with Chinchou and Wailmer. A Pokemon that can handle both of them like Staryu or Porygon makes a good partner for Elekid. Elekid is also still vulnerable to Trapinch and Cubone, so a strong Water-type like Wailmer, Staryu, or Chinchou that can revenge kill Ground-types is a good idea too. Porygon is another good teammate for Elekid, as it can counter-trap and eliminate Trapinch and has a good matchup versus Cubone.
