However, Protect is often too valuable thanks to its stronger applications against offensive Pokemon. Heavy-Duty Boots significantly boosts this set's longevity and self-sufficiency. Flame Body allows Chandelure to pivot into and threaten a burn against foes like Jirachi and Celesteela. It can also let Chandelure cripple Pokemon that revenge kill it, like Knock Off Azelf, as it faints. Hex Chandelure fits best on bulky offense, balance, and semi-stall teams that appreciate Chandelure's ability to wear down defensive threats early- to mid-game. Chandelure can struggle to get a Toxic against foes like Slowking and Hippowdon at times, so defensive Celesteela is a great teammate that can cripple these threats with Toxic instead, especially luring in the former looking to switch in on Leech Seed. Cobalion, Hippowdown, and Nidoqueen can provide Stealth Rock support to whittle down checks like Hydreigon and Nihilego. They all handle Nihilego, which is a problem for Chandelure if not running Will-O-Wisp. Cobalion also breaks past Chansey and Umbreon and switches into Scizor's Knock Off. Pivots such as Rotom-W, Zarude, and Choice Scarf Diggersby can all bring in Chandelure against bulky Grass-types like Amoonguss and Tangrowth. Rotom-W and Zarude take on Primarina and Hippowdon as well, while Diggersby revenge kills Nihilego with ease. Amoonguss defensively checks Primarina and Keldeo and can provide paralysis with Stun Spore to hinder foes like Noivern. Umbreon's typing synergizes well with Chandelure's and can provide Wish support to keep Chandelure and the rest of the team healthy. Late-game cleaners like Azelf, Nasty Plot Togekiss, and Calm Mind Primarina all enjoy Chandelure wearing down the enemy team's defensive core, limiting threats like Hydreigon in return. Other status spreaders can work well as teammates, alleviating Chandelure's need for prediction regarding Hex. Galarian Slowbro is particularly good at spreading status due to its tendency to run both Scald and Sludge Bomb. Tentacruel does this as well and can also utilize Knock Off to further cripple foes.

Sleep Talk lets Chandelure act as a sleep absorber for its team, pivoting in on Amoonguss's Spore without being entirely crippled. Trick is another option in the fourth moveslot, however, to cripple defensive switch-ins like Chansey. Flame Body is preferred to potentially punish physical attackers such as Crobat and Scizor. Flash Fire is an option to let Chandelure pivot in on Fire-type attacks from foes like Moltres and Salamence, boosting its damage output. A Timid nature is preferred to outspeed Adamant Gyarados and Mamoswine as well as Modest Nidoking, but Modest can be an option for increased damage output, being able to OHKO Hippowdon with Overheat after Stealth Rock. This set is a solid fit on offense teams for the massive wallbreaking prowess it offers. Chandelure requires extensive support in entry hazard removal to offset its Stealth Rock vulnerability. Excadrill and Salamence can form a double entry hazard removal core for Chandelure, keeping Stealth Rock and Spikes off against common setters like Nihilego, Hippowdon, and Skarmory together. Salamence can also check faster threats like Zarude and Keldeo for Chandelure. Chandelure appreciates entry hazard support for furthering damage on foes alongside its attacks; Swampert and the aforementioned Excadrill are solid choices, additionally pivoting in on foes that can revenge kill it like Lycanroc-D and Thundurus-T. Rotom-W is a particularly strong teammate for Chandelure, as it can lure in Grass-types like Amoonguss and pivot Chandelure into them with Volt Switch while also making use of Defog. Zarude is another strong partner, pressuring foes like Primarina and Nihilego for Chandelure and bringing it in against Pokemon like Scizor and Amoonguss. Chandelure fits best on balance and bulky offense teams, as its high Special Attack and powerful STAB moves are great at forcing switches, but it needs help getting in safely. It appreciates defensive pivots such as Blissey and Corviknight bringing it in safely, as Chandelure is weak to entry hazards and is relatively frail. Pokemon that can set entry hazards such as Landorus-T and Swampert also make good teammates, as they help Chandelure wear down its checks, such as almost guaranteeing 2HKO against Assault Vest Landorus-T with Stealth Rock up. Water-type switch-ins such as Tapu Fini and Toxapex are also great teammates, as Chandelure is weak to faster Water-types such as Barraskewda and Inteleon. Fighting-types such as Galarian Zapdos and Terrakion pair well with Chandelure, as they are able to threaten Chansey and Blissey, two of Chandelure's best checks. Sweepers such as Tapu Koko and Tapu Lele appreciate Chandelure breaking through common special walls like RegenVest Jirachi for them to sweep. Consistent entry hazard removal, such as Corviknight or Tapu Fini, is also necessary in order to mitigate Chandelure’s weakness to Stealth Rock.

Desolate Land Chandelure is a terrifying wallbreaker, with its powerful Fire-type moves hitting common specially defensive walls such as Jirachi and Ferrothorn, and Shadow Ball hitting Pokemon such as Garchomp and Toxapex who do not fear Chandelure's sun-boosted moves. Solar Beam KOes Water-type Pokemon such as Assault Vest Swampert, who otherwise can switch in safely and force Chandelure out. Trick cripples defensive Pokemon like Chansey, Blissey, and Flash Fire Mandibuzz, some of Chandelure's most consistent checks. Alternatively, Chandelure can also use Will-O-Wisp and Hex to hit switch-ins such as Garchomp and Toxapex harder, at the cost of immediate damage and the coverage of Solar Beam. Desolate Land Chandelure is best suited to balance and bulky offense teams, as it has high damage output, but requires team support that more offensive teams cannot fit. Strong offensive and defensive pivots such as Barraskewda, Zarude, Swampert, and Blissey are great partners, as Chandelure excels at capitalizing on the momentum these pivots create. Good Defoggers are a must-have for Chandelure, as it can easily be worn down by entry hazards over the course of a longer game, so Pokemon like Corviknight and Tapu Fini are good teammates. Pokemon that can set entry hazards, such as Landorus-T and Heatran, are also good partners, as Stealth Rock support helps Chandelure wear down the opposing team faster. Powerful Fighting-types such as Terrakion pair well with Chandelure, as Chandelure threatens Intimidate Corviknight and Terrakion, in turn, threatens Chansey and Blissey, two of Chandelure's best checks. Strong Fairy-types like Tapu Lele and Tapu Koko also love Chandelure's ability to break through common Steel-type Pokemon such as Jirachi and Ferrothorn.

Moves Fire Blast is Chandelure's strongest STAB move, dealing enormous damage to threats that don't resist it. Choice Scarf allows Chandelure to be a great revenge killer and outspeed threats such as Tapu Koko and Greninja. Flash Fire is Chandelure's best ability, absorbing any Fire-type move and immensely boosts Fire Blast's power. Usage Tips Chandelure functions best as a revenge killer and should be brought in after letting a Pokemon get KOed to revenge kill the opposing Pokemon. Chandelure can be used early-game to wallbreak to support its teammates thanks to its outstanding Special Attack stat; however, Chandelure can also be used mid- to late-game as a cleaner. As Chandelure's bulk isn't great, try bringing it in on a fainted teammate. Chandelure can also be brought in to deal great damage to threats, such as using Fire Blast on Tapu Koko. Make sure to use Trick to cripple defensive Pokemon such as Porygon2, Toxapex, and Chansey so that Chandelure's team has an easier time dealing with them. Utilize Chandelure's Flash Fire ability to switch into Fire-type attacks to keep its teammates safe from taking any damage. Chandelure should be spamming Fire Blast and Shadow Ball throughout the match against threats that don't resist either one or both its STAB attacks. Be careful when locking Chandelure to a coverage move such as Energy Ball, as it can easily force Chandelure out; for example, Landorus-T can easily switch in on Chandelure targeting Seismitoad with Energy Ball. Keep Chandelure away from status such as paralysis, as it hinders Chandelure's role as a revenge killer. While entry hazards are out, Chandelure shouldn't be switching in often, as they wear Chandelure down quickly and make it easier to KO it. Make sure to utilize Chandelure's teammates such as Mega Sableye, Dhelmise, and Decidueye to keep entry hazards off the field so Chandelure can pivot more freely. While Chandelure beats several threats due to its high Special Attack stat and Fire Blast's high Base Power, special walls such as Mantine can stop Chandelure in its tracks. Team Options Mega Sableye is an excellent partner for Chandelure, being able to keep status and entry hazards off the field thanks to Magic Bounce. Mega Sableye can switch in to sponge Knock Off and cripple physical attackers for Chandelure. Mimikyu is a great setup sweeper thanks to its Fairy typing, and it can check Dark-types and take on Dragon-types such as Hydreigon. Doublade is another great physical setup sweepers that complements Chandelure's Special Attacks, and it is able to take on Chansey. Gengar is a great special attacker and has excellent coverage, so both it and Chandelure can apply pressure on physically defensive threats. Chandelure can use Trick to cripple defensive walls such as Chansey for Gengar to clean up. Jellicent can take Water-type attacks and switch into special attacks for Chandelure. It can also help in wearing down the opposing team with Toxic + Recover. Chandelure appreciates Stealth Rock support from Golurk to easily KO threats. Golurk can also take on Rock-types that threaten Chandelure such as Armaldo and Terrakion. Dhelmise and Decidueye provide entry hazard removal thanks to Rapid Spin and Defog, respectively. They can also switch into a predicted Ground-type attack due to their Grass typing. Gourgeist-XL is also good as a switch-in to Ground-type attacks for Chandelure too. It can cripple physical attackers with Will-O-Wisp and provide Leech Seed support. In return, Chandelure can switch into Fire-type attacks for Dhelmise, Decidueye, and Gourgeist-XL.

A Choice Scarf and a Timid nature let Chandelure outspeed base 130s such as Tapu Koko and Mega Gengar, making it a good choice for a revenge killer. Unlike most Choice Scarf revenge killers, Chandelure can become an effective check to non-Stone Edge Blaziken thanks to Flash Fire, but Infiltrator is also very useful for taking advantage of Pokemon behind a Substitute, such as Aegislash. Coverage can be given up for Trick, which allows Chandelure to cripple Chansey and Porygon2 switch-ins.

Chandelure's unique typing and Flash Fire make it a great check to Blaziken, in addition to making it a powerful special attacking threat. While it has good coverage, sacrificing it a bit is acceptable if your team needs Trick Room support, since Chandelure is a good offensive setter of it. When using Trick Room, consider a Quiet nature, 0 Speed IVs, and maximum HP instead of maximum Speed. Infiltrator can be used over Flash Fire if Blaziken isn't a concern, since it lets Chandelure ignore Substitutes and makes it an especially good check to Moody Glalie. Focus Sash is the best option to get around Chandelure's poor defensive stats, but Z-Crystals give Chandelure a powerful attacking option.

Moves Overheat is Chandelure's main move on this set, as it can OHKO almost every non-bulky Pokemon that does not resist it, such as Mega Gengar and Klefki. However, it lowers Chandelure's Special Attack by two stages. Shadow Ball Chandelure's strongest Ghost-type STAB move and has no downsides. Heat Wave is a STAB spread move that is great for bypassing Protect and chipping the health of multiple opposing Pokemon. Energy Ball provides Chandelure with coverage against Water-, Rock-, and Ground-type Pokemon, whose STAB moves deal super effective damage to Chandelure. Hidden Power Ice is an alternative to Energy Ball that covers Chandelure's Ground-type weakness, even though Shadow Ball does just as much damage to them, as well as hits Dragon-types, which resist its Fire-type STAB moves. Hidden Power Ice is great for surprise KOs on Garchomp and Salamence. Set Details Either Flash Fire or Infiltrator can be used on this set, as both are efficient. Flash Fire gives Chandelure an immunity to Fire-type moves and boosts Chandelure's own if Chandelure is hit by one, while Infiltrator allows Chandelure's attacks to go right through Substitutes and dual screens. Maximum investment in Speed and Special Attack allows Chandelure to hit hard and fast. A Timid nature is necessary, as it allows Chandelure to outspeed most Pokemon when coupled with a Choice Scarf. Usage Tips With a Choice Scarf, Chandelure is a sitting duck for Sucker Punch. Also look out for rain, which endangers Chandelure and weakens its Fire-type moves. You should make attacking frailer Pokemon a priority. As such, Chandelure's job is to take out fast attackers first, then bulkier Pokemon. Team Options Priority users, such as Meowstic, are good for taking out and crippling foe priority users. Pokemon that enjoy Chandelure's Flash Fire ability are bulky Grass- and Steel-type Pokemon such as Amoonguss and Ferrothorn. Chandelure enjoys having bulky Water-type Pokemon, such as Rotom-W, as teammates, as they can cover a lot of its weaknesses. Garchomp is a great teammate, as it can take out weather setters. Flying-type Pokemon, as well as Pokemon with Levitate, are good for avoiding Ground-type moves, which Chandelure is weak to. Chandelure absolutely loves Pokemon with access Wide Guard because it is weak to almost all spread moves.

Moves Heat Wave is Chandelure's main STAB move and can chip HP off of both the opponent's Pokemon. Shadow Ball is Chandelure's strongest STAB move against a single target, though. Will-O-Wisp is used for inflicting burns and lowering the power of physical attackers that threaten Chandelure, such as Garchomp. Substitute is an alternative to Will-O-Wisp that helps Chandelure avoid damage and status. It is also great to use because Chandelure can practically get one up for free on arguably the 3 best Mega Evolutions in the metagame: Kangaskhan, Mawile, and Charizard Y, with all of its immunities. Trick Room is the last alternative to Will-O-Wisp, and if Chandelure is running it, give Chandelure 0 Speed IVs, run a Quiet nature, and move the Speed EVs to HP. Protect allows Chandelure to avoid taking damage from attacks. Set Details A Modest nature is used to maximize Chandelure's Special Attack stat. Max investment in Speed and Special Attack is to hit hard and fast. Focus Sash gives Chandelure one guaranteed attack and sometimes even more. Flash Fire is better than Infiltrator, as it gives Chandelure an immunity to Fire-type moves so they don't break Chandelure's Focus Sash. Usage Tips Make sure to use Protect when necessary, such as when you know a spread move is coming. If Flash Fire is Chandelure's ability, use it to absorb Fire-type moves for Pokemon that have a weakness to the type, such as Ferrothorn and Scizor. Team Options Some of the best teammates for this set are Pokemon that enjoy Fire-type coverage, such as Mawile and Amoonguss. It also likes Pokemon that can avoid Ground-type moves, such as Rotom-W and Talonflame. Pokemon that have access to Wide Guard, such as Aegislash and Mienshao, also make for great partners. Lastly, if you are using Trick Room, then other slow Pokemon that can benefit from Trick Room, such as Ferrothorn and Reuniclus, would be good partners for Chandelure.

Substitute takes advantage of passive Pokemon like Chansey and prevents Chandelure from being revenge killed by faster Pokemon, like Mega Lopunny, Weavile, and Sucker Punch Bisharp, or getting statused. Calm Mind lets Chandelure break through defensive Pokemon like Mega Venusaur and Porygon2 more easily. The combination of Substitute and Calm Mind makes it harder for special attackers like Zapdos and Heatran to KO it. Flamethrower hits Dark- and Normal-types like Mandibuzz and Chansey, which aren't bothered much by Shadow Ball. Additionally, Flamethrower is great for targeting Steel- and Grass-types like Mega Scizor, Ferrothorn, and Whimsicott. Spooky Plate helps it break through Fire-resistant defensive Pokemon like Heatran and Tentacruel. Leftovers alternatively gives Chandelure passive recovery behind Substitute, improving its overall longevity. Flash Fire allows it to check Fire-types like Mega Charizard Y and Victini. Avoid repeatedly switching into entry hazards, notably Stealth Rock, as it wears down Chandelure to a great extent. Chandelure should utilize Substitute to play mindgames with Bisharp to avoid being revenge killed by Sucker Punch. Golurk sets Stealth Rock to chip foes, break Focus Sash from Pokemon like Breloom, and break Dragonite's Multiscale, allowing Chandelure to pick up KOs more easily. It can also get rid of threatening Rock-types like Tyranitar and Terrakion with Earthquake and support Chandelure in beating Steel-types with its coverage moves. In return, Chandelure can get rid of Ice- and Grass-types that Golurk is unable to deal with, like Avalugg and Mega Venusaur. Choice Scarf Gengar serves as a Ground immunity and revenge kills faster threats to Chandelure like Mega Diancie and Mega Lopunny. Chandelure notably forms a Fire / Water / Grass core with Jellicent and Gourgeist-XL so each can handle the others' weaknesses. Jellicent takes on offensive Water-types, while Gourgeist beats Water- and Ground-types, most notably being able to take a hit from Mega Sharpedo and Mega Gyarados and retaliate with Power Whip. Sableye can prevent entry hazards from going up with Taunt and cripple physical attackers like Bisharp and Excadrill with Will-O-Wisp. Furthermore, Sableye can remove items like Eviolite from Porygon2 and Chansey and Leftovers with Knock Off to assist Chandelure in beating defensive Pokemon. Doublade is an option to beat Dark- and Rock-types that can KO Chandelure, like Bisharp and Tyranitar, with Sacred Sword.

Maximum Speed EVs with a Timid nature are used so that Chandelure has the highest Speed possible for Choice Scarf and because Chandelure's Speed isn't that high to begin with. Infiltrator allows Chandelure to outspeed and hit Metagross, Aegislash, and Gengar behind a Substitute. Flash Fire is a nice option because it allows Chandelure to switch into Pokemon such as Mega Charizard Y and gain an added boost to its Fire-type attacks. Usage Tips Because Chandelure doesn't have the best bulk in the world, it isn't recommended to switch it into attacks. Combined with Infiltrator, Choice Scarf Chandelure can check Substitute Metagross, Aegislash, and Gengar because it is able to bypass Substitute and hit them for super effective damage, so it is best to send out Chandelure when one of those Pokemon is out. Team Options Virizion and Breloom are both great partners for Chandelure because they are able to check the bulky Water-types that wall Chandelure, freeing up a slot for another coverage move. They can both check Bisharp while Virizion can check Kangaskhan, Landorus, and Heatran better than Breloom while giving up the ability to use Spore. Chandelure supports both Virizion and Breloom by being able to check the Psychic-types that threaten them. Mega Metagross is also a good partner for Chandelure because Chandelure is able to check Substitute Aegislash, Ferrothorn, and Gengar, while Metagross can help against Rock-types, such as Terrakion. It also checks Mega Venusaur which can give Chandelure some trouble because Heat Wave will be weakened due to Thick Fat. Bulky Water-types such as Suicune and Rotom-W are good partners as well because they are able to check Rock- and Ground-types, such as Landorus-T and Terrakion. Rotom-W can also use Will-O-Wisp, which can help alleviate Chandelure's mediocre bulk. Terrakion is also a wonderful partner because it is able to check Bisharp and Heatran while Chandelure helps Terrakion by removing Metagross and Aegislash. Thundurus is a good partner because it checks bulky Water-types, mainly Suicune, while also being able to Taunt opposing speed control users, allowing Chandelure to retain its fast Speed. Chandelure can hit Steel-types, which Thundurus has trouble hitting, for massive damage.

Moves Trick Room can turn Chandelure's low Speed into an advantage by allowing it to attack first against faster Pokemon, such as Mega Metagross. Heat Wave is Chandelure's Fire-type STAB move, while Overheat is another option for a Fire-type STAB move should you want more power. Heat Wave is generally the preferred option, however, as it does not lower Chandelure's Special Attack and can hit both foes at once. Shadow Ball has nice synergy with Heat Wave, as it can hit everything that Heat Wave can't hit neutrally, and it is boosted by STAB. Hidden Power Ice can be used in place of Shadow Ball to hit Landorus-T and Garchomp for super effective damage. Protect guards Chandelure from a potential double target, as most people will expect it to have a Focus Sash on Trick Room teams. Set Details Maximum HP EVs are used, as investing in Speed isn't recommended for a Trick Room setter. Maximum Special Attack EVs with a Quiet nature are necessary so that Chandelure can maximize its damage output. A Quiet nature with 0 Speed IVs ensures that Chandelure will be as slow as possible. Flash Fire gives Chandelure an immunity to Fire-type moves, which can allow it to wall common Pokemon, such as Mega Charizard Y. Infiltrator can allow Chandelure to hit Pokemon that are trying to stall out Trick Room by hiding behind a Substitute. Focus Sash can allow Chandelure to take a single powerful hit. Life Orb is another option to give Chandelure more offensive presence. Usage Tips Chandelure works well as a lead because its immunity to Fake Out can allow it to set up Trick Room on the first turn. Once Trick Room is set up, Chandelure should utilize its high Special Attack as much as possible by constantly applying pressure with its strong STAB attacks. Team Options Hariyama is a great partner because its low Speed allows it to work really well under Trick Room. It can also provide Fake Out support, further boosting the chances for Chandelure to set up Trick Room. Hariyama can also check the Rock-types that threaten Chandelure while Chandelure checks the Psychic-types that threaten Hariyama. Another Fighting-type that works really well with Chandelure is Conkeldurr because it is able to check Bisharp, a big check to Chandelure, with Mach Punch before it is able to use Sucker Punch. Abomasnow is a great partner as well due to its low Speed and its ability to check the bulky Water-types that Chandelure has trouble breaking through. Chandelure can check the Steel-types that threaten Abomasnow, such as Ferrothorn and Scizor. Keep in mind, however, that, if you are running Abomasnow alongside Chandelure, it is best to run Life Orb because the hail will break Chandelure's Focus Sash. Mega Mawile is a great partner for Chandelure, despite both sharing a Ground weakness, as Chandelure is able to break through the Steel-types that give Mawile trouble, such as Ferrothorn. Mega Mawile, in return, can check the Rock- and Dark-types that threaten Chandelure. Slower Pokemon that benefit under Trick Room are good partners for Chandelure, such as Sylveon, which can threaten Dark-types, and Escavalier, which can threaten both Rock- and Dark-types.

Chandelure makes for a fantastic Trick Room user, with its middling Speed allowing it to set up Trick Room against faster teams and outspeed and attack other Trick Room teams with its powerful dual STAB attacks. Heat Wave and Shadow Ball are Chandelure's dual STAB options, attaining almost perfect coverage and allowing it to hit all other Trick Room users for super effective damage, making it a formidable weapon against both faster teams and opposing Trick Room teams. Protect allows Chandelure to avoid taking damage from its many weaknesses for a turn, giving its partner a turn to eliminate any Pokemon that may be threatening it. The EVs and nature allow Chandelure to hit as hard as possible while retaining some decent bulk, letting it take most neutral hits and outspeed most Trick Room Pokemon. Focus Sash allows Chandelure to always survive an attack, letting it bypass some of its weaknesses and always set up Trick Room or fire off a powerful attack. Flash Fire makes opposing Chandelure very wary of using Heat Wave, which can help a partner weak to Fire-type attacks. Overheat is an option over Heat Wave purely because it allows Chandelure to beat Amoonguss, OHKOing most sets and making Chandelure a much more effective check to Trick Room teams. However, the Special Attack drop after using it, along with the lack of spread damage, usually makes it the inferior option. Chandelure can run Imprison over Protect to completely stop Trick Room from being set up while Chandelure is alive. The opposing team can just attack Chandelure while it uses Imprison, so it's not a foolproof strategy. If Imprison is used, Chandelure should run maximum Speed with a Timid nature, allowing it to outpace almost all other Chandelure and shut them down with Imprison right off the bat. A Timid nature also allows Chandelure to outspeed Adamant Krookodile, and severely damage it with Heat Wave or Overheat. A Quiet nature with 0 Speed IVs allows Chandelure to outspeed more Pokemon with Trick Room in effect, but reduces Chandelure's ability to check other Trick Room teams with its relatively high Speed stat. While Chandelure can outspeed many Pokemon that would normally outspeed it in Trick Room with a Quiet nature, a Modest nature allows Chandelure to take advantage of its relatively high Speed to provide an excellent check to other Trick Room teams, outspeeding and doing severe damage to most Trick Room users with its STAB Shadow Ball. Chandelure makes for an excellent lead for faster Trick Room teams, able to set up Trick Room against speedier teams and hit other Trick Room users hard with STAB Shadow Ball. Pokemon such as Scrafty, Samurott, and Emboar pair well with Chandelure due to their middling Speed, allowing them to hit hard against opposing Trick Room teams and faster teams. Conkeldurr also makes a great partner, helping to KO both Terrakion and Hydreigon with its STAB Fighting-type moves. Chandelure has weaknesses to Rock Slide and Earthquake, so a Water- or Fighting-type partner, such as Samurott or Scrafty, can also take advantage of Trick Room and hit most Rock Slide and Earthquake users very hard with their super effective STAB attacks. Chandelure is also weak to Sucker Punch and Aqua Jet, so Amoonguss can prove very useful, redirecting those moves to itself using Rage Powder, and taking advantage of Trick Room to outspeed and use Spore on the opponent.

Choice Scarf Chandelure is an excellent check to many faster teams, doing severe damage to many frailer Pokemon with its powerful dual STAB. Overheat gives Chandelure a strong STAB move that deals excellent damage to most offensive Pokemon, always OHKOing the genies and Amoonguss. Shadow Ball forms the second half of Chandelure's dual STAB, and allows it to do excellent damage to most Trick Room users. Heat Wave allows Chandelure to do some powerful spread damage, hitting anything that doesn't resist it quite hard. Hidden Power Ice allows Chandelure to deal with Dragon-types such as Hydreigon much more easily. The EVs and nature allow Chandelure to hit as hard as possible but still outspeed the entire metagame, as well as many Pokemon under Tailwind, with a Choice Scarf attached. A Timid nature can be used to outspeed other Choice Scarf Pokemon, such as Adamant Krookodile and opposing Modest Chandelure, but the loss in power is noticeable, and the increase in Speed is largely unnecessary. Alternately, a spread of 100 HP / 252 SpA / 156 Spe can be used with a Modest nature, which still outspeeds the genies while giving Chandelure more bulk. With it, though, Chandelure loses to other Choice Scarf Pokemon, and doesn't have the ability to outspeed as many Pokemon under Tailwind as it does with 252 Speed EVs. Psychic does more damage to Terrakion than any other move Chandelure can carry, doing over 80% to 4 HP Terrakion. Choice Scarf Chandelure has the ability to take out many faster Pokemon with its huge Special Attack, so slower Pokemon can take advantage of Choice Scarf Chandelure as a partner. Scrafty has weaknesses to many common attacks and is quite slow, but Chandelure's Overheat OHKOes the genies, and a combination of Fake Out and Hidden Power Ice OHKOes Archeops, allowing Scrafty to attack much more effectively.

Choice Scarf Chandelure acts as a strong revenge killer, outspeeding most of the Pokemon in this metagame without a Choice Scarf or a Speed boost from the weather. Heat Wave is its main form of offense, dealing heavy damage to opponents that do not resist it. Shadow Ball acts as its secondary STAB attack, dealing damage to a single opponent. Hidden Power Ice allows Chandelure to hit Dragon-types super effectively, especially Garchomp, that otherwise threaten Chandelure with a super effective Earthquake. Finally, Overheat does massive damage to one single target, potentially KOing it, with the drawback of lowering Chandelure's Special Attack. However, if you desire more coverage, Energy Ball can be used to hit Water-types for super effective damage. 252 EVs each are invested in Special Attack and Speed, maximizing its Special Attack and Speed; this allows Chandelure to act as an efficient revenge killer and attacker. Timid is used in order to outspeed Pokemon with base 130 Speed, such as Modest Choice Scarf Porygon-Z, Timid Choice Scarf Politoed, Aerodactyl, and Crobat. However, if you prefer the extra boost in power, Modest is a suitable alternative. Chandelure appreciates having a teammate that resists the Ghost-, Dark-, Water-, Ground-, and Rock-type attacks that neutralize it. As stated before, Ferrothorn is an excellent choice, resisting four of the five mentioned, and boasting excellent defenses. Due to the popularity of spread moves, Chandelure appreciates Wide Guard support, something that Hitmontop, Conkeldurr, and Hariyama can reliably provide. A Dusknoir running Imprison or a Whimsicott running Taunt can also be an effective remedy against opponents which set up Trick Room, making them excellent partners for Chandelure should it be faced with the field effect.

Heat Wave is the main attack of this set; coupled with Chandelure's monstrous base 145 Special Attack and STAB, it will do major damage to both of your opponent's Pokemon, potentially KOing them. Shadow Ball allows Chandelure to hit single targets for good damage, while eliminating threats such as opposing Chandelure, Cresselia, and Slowking. Depending on your team, Trick Room can either give bulky Pokemon on your team an advantage over foes which would normally outspeed them, or remove Trick Room that has already been set up. Finally, Protect allows Chandelure to shield itself from the barrage of super effective attacks that are common in this metagame, such as Earthquake, Rock Slide, and more; this also gives your teammate an opportunity to eliminate the threat to Chandelure. Chandelure's item of choice is Fire Gem, which boosts the power of its Heat Wave once, allowing it to deal massive damage to both of your opponent's Pokemon. Life Orb is a good choice too, giving Chandelure a constant boost in its attacks, though this comes with the drawback of losing 10% of its HP each attack. Focus Sash is another solid item choice, as it gives Chandelure a second wind against super effective attacks, allowing it to hit back hard once more before going down. 252 Special Attack EVs are self-explanatory, allowing Chandelure to hit its opponents the hardest. However, the EV investment gets a bit trickier from this point. If it being used on a Trick Room team, Chandelure can opt to use a Quiet nature with 252 HP EVs and 0 Spe IVs, giving it maximum Speed under Trick Room. The 4 EVs in Special Defense ensure that Porygon-Z does not snag a Special Attack boost from Download. However, if you're not running a Trick Room set, one can invest in Chandelure's HP for bulk, or in Speed. HP investment allows Chandelure to live through attacks such as Rock Slide and Hitmontop's Sucker Punch, and extends its longevity; it also allows Chandelure to run a Modest nature, boosting its Special Attack further. However, a spread of 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe coupled with a Timid nature allows Chandelure to outspeed Adamant Mamoswine, KOing it before it can use Earthquake. All in all, running a bulky Chandelure is much more effective, as it gives Chandelure much needed bulk, while Speed only allows Chandelure to outspeed one threat. Ferrothorn is an effective teammate to Chandelure, as it draws Fire- and Fighting-type attacks, giving Chandelure an opportunity to switch in safely and also possibly snag a Flash Fire boost. Furthermore, Ferrothorn can eliminate Water-, Ground-, and Rock-types—especially Tyranitar—that threaten Chandelure. Fighting-type teammates such as Hitmontop are very effective as well, eliminating Dark- and Rock-types that plague Chandelure. Hitmontop is an especially effective partner, as it carries priority attacks that can KO foes that are weakened by Chandelure's Heat Wave. It can also utilize Wide Guard, blocking spread attacks such as Earthquake, Rock Slide, and Surf that would normally KO Chandelure. Finally, its ability, Intimidate, weakens the physical attacks of its enemies, allowing Chandelure to survive a physical hit or two. Finally, teammates that can set up Trick Room prior to Chandelure switching in do it a great service. With Trick Room up, Chandelure can immediately start hitting its foes for massive damage.
