Belly Drum Liquidation Sitrus Berry Azumarill is another case where Heavy Slam is preferred, as a single Liquidation will OHKO Celesteela after Belly Drum but two Heavy Slams usually deal 75% to Azumarill. Do not use Leech Seed versus Goodra, as its Sap Sipper ability will negate the move. Against Gardevoir, Celesteela always wins by using Heavy Slam followed by Leech Seed. The Special Defense EVs guarantee that Celesteela will always survive a Fire Blast from Choice Specs Modest Naganadel. 8 Speed EVs allow Celesteela to outspeed fast Choice Band Steelix, which can otherwise 3HKO with Fire Fang. The remaining EVs have been invested in Attack for the best possible chances against Porygon-Z. Usage Tips As most of its moves have no secondary effects, Choice Band Celesteela is very straightforward to use: simply opt for the most damaging move. Note that versus Aggron, it is best to avoid stat drops, and versus Assault Vest Registeel, a careful balance must be struck between 2HKOing it and minimizing potential Counter damage, which makes Earthquake the move of choice over Superpower in both of those matchups.

Set Description With a Custap Berry, Celesteela can turn the tables on many of the faster threats that would ordinarily survive one of its moves and threaten a 2HKO, such as Choice Specs Porygon-Z and Choice Specs Naganadel. The item is also helpful against Galarian Darmanitan and Choice Specs Primarina. Heavy Slam is a strong STAB move that hits all of the aforementioned threats for neutral or super effective damage. Flamethrower provides Fire-type coverage for Steel-types like Ferrothorn, Metagross, and Aggron. Air Slash beats Choice item, Life Orb, and Chople Berry variants of Urshifu-S, as well as frail Galarian Zapdos sets. Megahorn beats Weakness Policy Zarude and always 3HKOes Choice Scarf Cresselia. EVs The Attack, HP, and Defense EVs allow Celesteela to survive any two attacks from Haxorus, including Adamant Choice Band Low Kick, and beat it by clicking Leech Seed, Protect, Heavy Slam, and then Protect again. The Special Defense EVs do the same for two Focus Blasts from Choice Specs Landorus. The remaning 16 EVs have been placed in Speed for the best chance to outspeed Primarina. Usage Tips Versus Primarina, use Leech Seed followed by Heavy Slam. Using Heavy Slam twice risks putting a faster Primarina in Torrent range while taking significant chip damage from Moonblast, while using Heavy Slam followed by Leech Seed can be punished by a faster set with Encore. The only problem for this strategy is posed by Sitrus Berry sets, which can survive two rounds of Leech Seed damage and two Heavy Slams to wind up in Torrent range. If Primarina is slower, stalling out two extra turns with Protect prevents this from happening, but caution should be taken that Primarina does not use Calm Mind during those turns. Make sure to use Protect whenever a Primarina with an unknown item ends up below 25% HP, to play around a potential Custap Berry. Generally, Celesteela should use Leech Seed on the first turn of combat, then alternate Protect with attacks. This maximizes Leech Seed drain and thus recovery. Thanks to Celesteela's Mental Herb, this strategy is viable even against Taunt users like Galarian Moltres. However, remain wary of Trick Pokemon like Porygon-Z and Tapu Fini. Scouting with Protect can be used to help decide on the proper move versus those.

Leech Seed allows Celesteela to heal back health while simultaneously wearing down opposing Pokemon and works amazingly well in conjunction with Toxic to wear down opposing teams fast. Protect is needed to safely get Leech Seed's recovery and scout against Pokemon like Galarian Darmanitan and Choice Specs Tapu Koko. Heavy Slam is important to deal with threatening Rock-. Fairy-, and Ice-types like Tyranitar, Tapu Lele, and Weavile and also hits neutral targets like Nidoking, Tapu Koko, and Dragapult decently hard. Flamethrower is important, as it allows Celesteela to deal with Steel-types such as Ferrothorn, Aegislash, and opposing Celesteela. Toxic allows Celesteela to wear down walls such as Swampert, Slowking, Mandibuzz, Mantine, and Hippowdon, making it much easier for Celesteela's offensive teammates like Thundurus-T, Dragonite, and Galarian Zapdos to shine. The entirety of Flying-type teams benefit from Celesteela's presence. Ice- and Rock-weak Pokemon like Landorus-T, Dragonite, and Zapdos appreciate Celesteela taking on threats like Mamoswine and Tyranitar. In return, Landorus-T covers Electric-type attacks and deals with threats like Tapu Koko and Zeraora. Thundurus-T also covers Electric-type attacks for Celesteela while threatening Water-type teams for it. Physically defensive Celesteela can struggle to take on strong special attackers like Galarian Moltres, Hydreigon, and Heatran, so Pokemon like Mantine should be used to form a pair with it, as it can check such Pokemon while also covering Water- and Fire-types like Urshifu-R and Volcarona. Galarian Moltres is a great setup sweeper and wallbreaker that can break down passive defensive walls for Celesteela like Toxapex, Gastrodon, and Slowbro. Zapdos is another great teammate, as it can run a variety of sets to support it; the specially defensive set forms a defensive core with it, while the more threatening Choice Specs set simply blasts away Pokemon like Toxapex, Gastrodon, and Ferrothorn, making it easier for Celesteela to defensively threaten opposing teams. Galarian Zapdos can take care of opposing Steel-types for Celesteela, especially when Flamethrower is not used on the set. In return, Galarian Zapdos appreciates Celesteela weakening teams for it.

Excadrill also offers entry hazard removal, and Choice Scarf Excadrill can revenge kill threats like Cinderace and Zeraora, while Swords Dance Excadrill is a potent sweeper that can be a huge threat to certain types like Poison and Electric. Ferrothorn also brings setup, and its resistance to Water helps it to take care of bulky Water-types like Swampert and Slowking for Celesteela, especially if Celesteela lacks Toxic. Ferrothorn itself appreciates Celesteela's neutrality to Fighting. Aegislash and Celesteela are able to form an anti-Fighting core with their immunity and neutrality, respectively, to deal with Pokemon that normally pose a large threat to Steel-type teams like Terrakion and Galarian Zapdos. Bisharp threatens certain switch-ins like Slowking, removes Heavy-Duty Boots and Leftovers to allow Celesteela to better punish switches, and deals with numerous threats for Steel-type teams like Victini and Alolan Raichu. Melmetal is a bulky offensive threat, great at forcing progress, that strongly benefits from Leech Seed's recovery, as it has no reliable healing. Jirachi can be a powerful offensive option to threaten Water-, Dragon-, and Poison-types like Toxapex, Kommo-o, and Hydreigon, which all give Celesteela trouble one way or another.

Meteor Beam with Power Herb gives Celesteela a one-time way to nail would-be checks such as Incineroar, Zapdos, and Volcanion, as well as providing a Special Attack boost, which lets it snowball more easily with Beast Boost. In return, Celesteela covers its Ground- and Fighting-type weaknesses. Choice Scarf Excadrill also revenge kills Electric- and Fire-types like Tapu Koko and Infernape, while Aegislash serves as a situational switch-in to Fighting-type attacks. Klefki provides dual screens and Spikes to make it easier for Celesteela to set up with Autotomize and sweep. Skarmory can provide Stealth Rock and Spikes to assist Celesteela. Jirachi's Healing Wish allows Celesteela to be played more aggressively early-game.

Moves Metal Sound allows Celesteela to lower the Special Defense of bulkier threats that it wouldn't otherwise be able to KO, such as Magearna, Aegislash, Porygon2, Z-Conversion Porygon-Z, and Z-Celebrate Meloetta. It can also use Z-Metal Sound to bypass Taunt from users like Waterium Z Tapu Fini. Flash Cannon in combination with Steelium Z allows Celesteela to have an easier time with Fairy-, Rock-, and Ice-type Pokemon, such as Mega Gardevoir, Terrakion, and Kyurem. Giga Drain gives Celesteela a better matchup versus Water-types such as Mega Gyarados, Mega Swampert, and Greninja, though almost all Ground- and Rock-types are already beaten by its other moves. Fire Blast is used to beat Grass-, Steel-, and Bug-type Pokemon more easily, including Kartana, non-Thunder Punch Mega Metagross, Genesect, Durant, and Mega Scizor. Set Details 188 HP and 192 Special Defense EVs allow Celesteela to take powerful hits such as a Never-Ending Nightmare follwed by Shadow Sneak from Aegislash and a Choice Specs-boosted Thunderbolt from Genesect while maximizing its physical bulk. 128 Special Attack EVs and a Modest nature allow Celesteela to have as much power as possible. Steelium Z can either boost Flash Cannon's Base Power to 160 or allow Celesteela to boost its Special Attack with Z-Metal Sound. Celesteela can also choose to run a more physically defensive spread of 128 HP / 232 Def / 148 SpA EVs, which is specifically tailored to beat Mega Lopunny, as well as being able to live an Archeops's Head Smash and Continental Crush into Sucker Punch from Golem, although this will naturally lose its positive matchup with Aegislash and Genesect. Usage Tips Beware of wallbreakers such as Mega Medicham and Crustle, who will OHKO or 2HKO Celesteela. Also, be wary of sleep users like Smeargle, Jumpluff, or Mega Gengar, as they'll make Celesteela unable to set up or move at all. If you predict the opposing Porygon-Z is running Choice Scarf, use Giga Drain followed by Corkscrew Crash to cover for Thunderbolt. If you are running the physically defensive spread, use Giga Drain turn two against Mega Lopunny, after Fake Out has been used, in order to heal off enough damage from the combined damage of Fake Out and High Jump Kick, letting Celesteela tank the second High Jump Kick and follow up with a Corkscrew Crash. Team Options Rock-types such as Carracosta and Crustle help Celesteela have an easier time against Fire-type Pokemon such as Mega Charizard X and Y and Victini, while in return Celesteela can take down Grass- and Steel-types such as Mega Scizor and Ferrothorn with its Fire-type coverage, as well as Mold Breaker Pokemon that would OHKO Crustle or Carracosta such as Mega Gyarados and Haxorus. Ground-types like Landorus-T, Garchomp, Golem, and Donphan help versus Fire- and Electric-types that make up a good portion of the metagame and almost always win against Celesteela such as Mega Charizard X and Y, Zeraora, Magnezone, and Heatran, while in return Celesteela can take down the Grass- and Ice-types that these Pokemon usually lose to such as Ferrothorn, Mega Venusaur, and Kyurem. In return, Celesteela can beat Grass-types that trouble Tapu Fini and Primarina like Mega Venusaur and Tapu Bulu. Celesteela is a very slow threat compared to others in 1v1, so a fast Pokemon like Greninja, Choice Specs Deoxys-S, or Zeraora can be a viable asset to your team to beat Pokemon like Jumpluff and Mega Gengar; in return, Celesteela can take harder hits that these faster, more glass cannon-like Pokemon aren't capable of handling such as a Supersonic Skystrike or Devastating Drake from Dragonite or a Never-Ending Nightmare from Aegislash.

Moves Leech Seed makes it easy for Celesteela to wear down opposing Pokemon, helps force switches, and provides Celesteela with a means of recovery other than Leftovers. Protect is useful for scouting for super effective coverage moves, determining if foes are using Choice-items, and allowing for further recovery, and it is especially useful when paired with Leech Seed. Toxic helps wear down every non-Steel- or Poison-type Pokemon in the tier and is especially useful for easing the process of wearing down foes when combined with Leech Seed and Protect. Heavy Slam prevents Celesteela from being completely passive, allowing it to do a reasonable amount of damage to foes such as Mega Salamence, Rayquaza, Mega Gengar, Ultra Necrozma, and Mega Diancie. Set Details Maximum HP and Defense EVs are set in order for Celesteela to effectively check many common physical threats in the tier, such as Mega Salamence, Arceus-Ground, Marshadow, Rayquaza, and Primal Groudon lacking Fire-type attacks. Alternatively, a set with 104 Attack EVs and 156 Defense EVs can be used to ensure that Heavy Slam breaks Impish Mega Salamence's Substitute over 75% of the time, 2HKOes Gothitelle after Leech Seed and Stealth Rock damage, and OHKOes a -1 Defense Marshadow after Stealth Rock damage while still surviving Close Combat from Life Orb Marshadow with ease. Usage Tips Bring Celesteela in on Pokemon that it takes very little damage from, such as Arceus-Ground, Arceus-Fairy, Mega Salamence, Double Dance Primal Groudon, support Necrozma-DM, and Lugia. Leech Seed is easily Celesteela's most spammable move, as it provides recovery and tends to encourage Pokemon to switch out. Try to use this move liberally if you think that your opponent is going to switch their Pokemon, as Celesteela can help wear down Pokemon that would otherwise counter it with Leech Seed + Protect. Heavy Slam stops Celesteela from being completely passive and should be used to wear down foes alongside Leech Seed, Toxic, and Protect, pick off foes that have been worn down, and deal decent damage to frailer foes such as Deoxys-A, Mega Gengar, Xerneas, and Mega Diancie. It is also useful for breaking Substitute from frailer foes, such as Mega Salamence and Mega Gengar. Heavy Slam is also Celesteela's only way of dealing damage to Mega Sableye and Mega Diancie. Spamming Toxic to slowly wear down foes is incredibly useful, as this helps make things easier for other teammates to KO them and puts pressure on clerics such as Choice Scarf Xerneas, which is the most common cleric on offensive builds and dealt with by Celesteela quite easily. Use Protect in order to scout for coverage moves from Primal Groudon, Calm Mind Arceus formes, and Choice-locked Pokemon such as Yveltal, Ho-Oh, and Xerneas. Celesteela has to be careful to not take Fire- or Electric-type attacks from common threats such as Primal Groudon, Ho-Oh, Xerneas, mixed Rayquaza, mixed Primal Kyogre, and Naganadel. Celesteela also tends to not run any EVs in Special Defense if it wishes to effectively act as a physical wall, so it should avoid taking any damage from common special attackers such as Yveltal, Primal Kyogre, Lunala, and Naganadel. Although Celesteela is a complete deadweight against Gothitelle, it is possible for it to deal with Mega Gengar, as it 2HKOes Mega Gengar with Heavy Slam and is able to potentially deal with more aggressive variants if it correctly predicts when Mega Gengar uses Taunt and Destiny Bond. Avoid staying in against setup sweepers with Substitute, as Pokemon are immune to Leech Seed and Toxic when behind a Substitute. Primal Kyogre and Zygarde-C are especially noteworthy examples, as even when Celesteela invests EVs into Attack, Heavy Slam still fails to break their Substitute. Team Options Celesteela is a defensive wall that is much better at taking hits, rather than dishing them out. Therefore, it tends to fit well on teams of a similar nature. Pursuit users such as Marshadow and Tyranitar are nice partners for Celesteela, as they are able to trap and remove the two main Shadow Tag users in the tier, Gothitelle and Mega Gengar. It should be noted that Marshadow doesn't appreciate taking Ghost-type attacks from Mega Gengar and Tyranitar dislikes facing Mega Gengar variants with Focus Blast. Many different variants of Primal Groudon make useful partners for Celesteela. The defensive set is able to set Stealth Rock for Celesteela, which punishes just about every viable Pokemon in the tier when they switch in, ultimately making it easier for Celesteela to wear down foes. Primal Groudon can also quite easily deal with Power Herb Xerneas and Swords Dance Necrozma-DM as well as other Steel-types such as Ferrothorn, Mega Lucario, and Dialga. Defensive Primal Groudon also provides the team with a potential switch-in to Primal Kyogre, which is only really annoyed by Leech Seed and Toxic. Mixed Rock Polish Primal Groudon is able to take care of Zygarde before it transforms into Zygarde-C with Hidden Power Ice, and variants with Rock-type coverage are able to KO Ho-Oh, which otherwise 2HKOes Celesteela with Sacred Fire. Primal Kyogre is useful, as its ability makes it immune to Fire-type attacks and it threatens Primal Groudon and Ho-Oh with powerful Water-type attacks. Arceus-Water is able to remove Stealth Rock for Celesteela with Defog, as well as acting as a reasonable check to Ho-Oh and Primal Groudon. Arceus-Ground is also able to remove Stealth Rock for Celesteela with Defog and deal with Primal Groudon, as well as Mega Lucario, Zygarde-C, and Necrozma-DM to an extent. Zygarde-C is a brilliant partner both offensively and defensively, as it is able to deal with Pokemon that threaten Celesteela such as Mega Lucario, Primal Groudon, and Ho-Oh. Zygarde-C also appreciates the fact that Celesteela can threaten many of the Pokemon it dislikes dealing with, such as Arceus-Fairy, Arceus-Ground, and Choice Scarf Xerneas. Yveltal also pairs well with Celesteela, as it pressures trappers such as Gothitelle and Mega Gengar. It also appreciates Celesteela's ability to wear down Pokemon, which eases Yveltal's wallbreaking.

Moves Heavy Slam is a natural fit for Celesteela given its massive weight and the lightness of the foes it wants to hit. Leech Seed provides chip damage and a form of recovery, in addition to threatening defensive foes and aiding end-game stall. Substitute protects against status and makes removing Celesteela tougher. Its recovery means the HP cost is less notable. Alternatively, Flamethrower is an offensive option that grants coverage for Grass- and Steel-types like Kartana. Protect, while a staple of VGC, is particularly useful here for stalling the effects of Leftovers and Leech Seed. Set Details Leftovers is almost a requirement for any Celesteela set aiming to stall thanks to the recovery it provides. Beast Boost increases Celesteela's highest stat —in this case, Attack—by one stage whenever it knocks out a foe. The spread above makes Xurkitree's Thunderbolt a 2HKO and Celesteela's Attack its highest stat for Beast Boost. With that said, EVs on Celesteela are largely customizable depending on your team, like with Tailwind support. One alternative is 180 HP / 180 Atk / 148 SpD with a Careful nature, which will boost Special Defense instead. It also lets Celesteela survive a Modest Xurkitree's Thunderbolt, though its offensive pressure is reduced. On a hard Trick Room team Speed EVs can be dropped entirely and a negative nature such as Brave used. Another option is to instead use a Jolly nature with 252 Speed EVs to use Heavy Slam and Substitute before foes. If you do this, don't increase stats other than Speed above 123, as then Beast Boost won't increase Speed. Usage Tips Unless the odds are stacked against it at Team Preview, like against multiple Fire-types, it's often an easy pick. Generally, Celesteela enjoys being brought out in the late-game after Fire- and Electric-types have been eliminated from play. Not leading with Celesteela also helps it avoid Intimidate. This is a reason to keep Substitute up as much as possible. Don't be afraid to switch it in early to deal with threats, though, as its defenses and recovery make it easy to do so. Substitute and Leech Seed are generally the preferred options over Heavy Slam; Celesteela is primarily defensive. Team Options Ground-types such as Garchomp and Krookodile beat Fire- and Electric-types with ease. They can also use STAB Earthquake freely alongside Celesteela thanks to its Flying typing granting it immunity. Alolan Marowak is notable, as its Lightning Rod ability redirects super effective Electric attacks away. Water-types such as Gyarados, Milotic, and Gastrodon are valuable for dealing with opposing Fire-types. Fairy-types such as Tapu Koko and Tapu Lele enjoy having a teammate immune to Poison and resistant to Steel. Intimidate users such as Arcanine help Celesteela stall. Snarl and Will-O-Wisp make Arcanine especially potent. Trick Room setters such as Porygon2 can reverse the move order, giving Celesteela much greater initiative.

Celesteela’s defensive typing and stats make it well able to switch into attacks aimed at partners. Leech Seed and Leftovers complement this, and also make Substitute a good choice in the third moveslot. The given EVs let Celesteela OHKO 252 HP Tapu Lele and ensure Timid Tapu Lele’s Psychic doesn’t break Celesteela’s Substitute. When Wide Guard’s utility is preferred, use 244 HP / 28 Atk / 156 Def / 76 SpD / 4 Spe for general bulk that still results in Beast Boost increasing Special Defense. Ground-types such as Landorus-T make good partners, as they beat threatening Electric- and Fire-types, and can Earthquake freely alongside a Flying-type.

Moves Leech Seed is Celesteela's best form of recovery, allowing it to chip away at attackers that it walls. Protect paired with Leech Seed allows Celesteela to wear down opposing attackers and keeps it healthy at the same time. This can also be used to scout opposing offensive Pokemon like Choice Band Diggersby and Choice Specs Keldeo, two big threats to Steel teams. Heavy Slam is Celesteela's main STAB move and is used to further chip down opposing Pokemon, most notably 2HKOing Landorus after Stealth Rock damage and preventing it from setting up Gravity in front of Celesteela. Toxic is used to beat opposing walls like Mantine and Porygon2 while pressuring them with Leech Seed as well as being able to wear down opposing Pokemon that try to switch into Heavy Slam, like Keldeo. Flamethrower is used to hit opposing Steel-types like Ferrothorn and opposing Celesteela so your Celesteela can effectively get rid of other threats to the team. Set Details Maximum health investment paired with 160 Defense EVs alongside a Relaxed nature helps Celesteela avoid 2HKOs from Mega Lopunny, Jolly Mega Sharpedo, and Terrakion. Celesteela should opt to use an Impish nature if it is using Toxic over Flamethrower so its Speed isn't compromised against other slow walls like Clefable. 96 Special Defense EVs help Celesteela switch into Landorus safely and avoid getting 2HKOed by Zapdos. Leftovers is used to maximize Celesteela's passive recovery. Beast Boost allows Celesteela to increase its Defense after successfully KOing the opposing Pokemon, which allows it to wall more than it could before, such as being able to take +2 Mega Gallade's Close Combat. Usage Tips Switch Celesteela into Choice Scarf users like Terrakion or Gengar that lack super effective coverage, as Celesteela can easily take the attacks they have and start wearing them down or even force a switch. This does not mean that you can just throw Celesteela into any attacker, however, so be wary of any offensive Pokemon like Nidoking or Calm Mind Keldeo that can potentially 2HKO Celesteela. Using Protect to scout for moves like Choice Band Diggersby's Fire Punch is immensely useful for the entire team and allows you to avoid having to make predictions. Try to refrain from using Protect on the last turn that the foe is alive, as it means you won't be able to reliably use it again to scout the next Pokemon that comes in. Predicting switches with Leech Seed and Toxic can wear down opposing Pokemon further and can prevent Celesteela from needing to switch out, as it reduces the risk of getting 2HKOed by the opposing Pokemon. Try to use Toxic preemptively if you think a wall is about to come in, as it will allow you to easily wear it down as the game goes on. Use Leech Seed preemptively if you think an offensive Pokemon or status-afflicted Pokemon will come in so you can wear it down more. Avoid Knock Off, as it removes Celesteela's consistent recovery, which limits its ability to effectively wall opposing Pokemon. If the opponent has a Magnet Pull user like Alolan Golem or Magnezone, try to be more careful by double switching to lure out these Pokemon so Celesteela does not get trapped. Also try to avoid getting any sort of status ailment on Celesteela, especially burn, as it negates its Leftovers and makes it harder for it to wall effectively. Team Options Celesteela helps its teammates immensely by wearing down opposing walls for its offensive partners and walling certain physical attackers for its other defensive partners. Heatran is essential to all Steel teams and benefits Celesteela by switching into Fire-type attacks thanks to its Flash Fire ability. It can also trap and eliminate enemy walls like Mega Venusaur with Magma Storm and use Taunt to prevent them from recovering. Choice Scarf Excadrill can take down threats to Celesteela like Choice Band Infernape and Choice Specs Blacephalon while also serving as a switch-in to Electric-type attacks. Ferrothorn and Skarmory are great assisting walls for Celesteela that can take hits and provide Stealth Rock and Spikes support. Ferrothorn in particular takes down bulky Water-types like Swampert and Gastrodon that Celesteela struggles against while also serving as a nice Electric switch-in for it. Skarmory eases the pressure on Celesteela to check physical Fighting-types like Mega Gallade thanks to its reliable recovery in Roost. Mega Scizor, Bisharp, and Jirachi all appreciate Celesteela's ability to wear down walls like Porygon2, Mandibuzz, and Chansey so that they can sweep opposing teams more easily. Magnezone can trap annoying Steel-types like Ferrothorn and opposing Celesteela with Magnet Pull, which allows Celesteela to get walled less and wear down more of the opposing team.

Moves Autotomize lets Celesteela boost its middling Speed tier to much higher levels, letting it outpace Pokemon like Choice Scarf Landorus-T. Air Slash is Celesteela's main STAB move and has a 30% chance of causing the foe to flinch, which gives it a chance to break past walls such as Toxapex. Flash Cannon is Celesteela's secondary STAB move that does well against more prevalent types such as Fairy. Celesteela's inability to hit Steel-types is mitigated by running Flamethrower in the last moveslot, but Celesteela will still struggle against Heatran because of Flash Fire. Giga Drain can be used to specifically help against types like Ground. Set Details Maximum Special Attack and Speed investment lets Celesteela be as strong and fast as possible. A Timid nature lets Celesteela outpace non-Choice Scarf Magnezone before boosting and Choice Scarf Kyurem-B and Adamant Mega Swampert under rain after boosting. Celesteela can quickly spiral out of control against defensive and offensive teams alike with Beast Boost, which gives it a Special Attack boost every time it gets a KO. Metronome allows Celesteela to threaten defensive cores such as Mega Swampert + Toxapex + Mantine prior to gaining Special Attack boosts. Usage Tips Capitalize on Celesteela's great bulk and typing by setting up on Choice-locked Pokemon like Choice Scarf Tapu Bulu and Choice Band Scizor. Prioritize setting up late-game when walls are weakened so Celesteela can more easily active Beast Boost to get a sweep going. Similarly, preserve Celesteela's health so it won't have to worry about being KOed when it finds an opportunity to set up. Break through defensive cores by spamming a STAB attack, fully taking advantage of Metronome. Avoid paralysis from Pokemon like Klefki, as the Speed drop will cut into Celesteela's sweeping potential. Team Options Lead Aerodactyl is a fantastic lead for hyper offense teams and can nearly always guarantee Stealth Rock for Celesteela thanks to Taunt. Wallbreakers such as Mega Charizard Y, Thundurus-T, and Choice Band Dragonite are great for breaking down defensive cores for a Celesteela sweep. Dragonite can also pick off weakened foes with priority Extreme Speed. Choice Scarf Landorus-T is a great way to remove Electric-types like Tapu Koko, can potentially provide Stealth Rock, and can bring Celesteela in easily with U-turn. Swords Dance Hawlucha can be used to break down defensive cores for Celesteela.

Moves Leech Seed gives Celesteela a form of recovery and helps break down checks like Tapu Koko on the switch. Protect is great for wearing down the opponent with Toxic and gaining more health with Leech Seed and Leftovers. Protect also lets Celesteela scout for opposing Choice-locked Pokemon. Heavy Slam, supported by a decent uninvested Attack and Celesteela's weight, is its strongest and most consistent STAB move that's great for removing Pokemon like Alolan Ninetales and Mega Diancie. Toxic lets Celesteela threaten defensive Pokemon like Zapdos and Porygon2 that would otherwise beat it. Flamethrower lets Celesteela threaten opposing Steel-types like Mega Scizor. Set Details Leftovers gives Celesteela another way to help mitigate its lack of a solid recovery move. Beast Boost lets Celesteela gain a boost to its Defense every time it KOes an opposing Pokemon. 252 HP EVs, 252 Defense EVs, and an Impish nature maximize Celesteela's potential to take on physical attacks. Usage Tips Keeping Celesteela healthy attributes to its success as a wall, so do everything you can to accomplish this. Use Leech Seed liberally and avoid status and Knock Off to prevent it from being worn down. Use Toxic to cripple walls like Mantine that Celesteela struggles with. Understand that KOing a foe with Leech Seed or Toxic will not activate Beast Boost, so if Celesteela needs the Defense boost to finish out a game, attack the opposing Pokemon with Heavy Slam instead of stalling it out with Protect and Leech Seed. Hitting predicted switch-ins with Toxic or Leech Seed can be important to wear them down for teammates like Mega Aerodactyl. If running Flamethrower, reveal it in key matchups such as against opposing Steel-types, where it's very important to take out threats like Ferrothorn and Mega Scizor. Team Options Zapdos can take on Electric-types for Celesteela and, if Celesteela lacks Flamethrower, remove Steel-types like Ferrothorn and Mega Scizor for it. Mantine is a fantastic switch-in for Fire-types like Mega Charizard Y that Celesteela struggles against. Mega Aerodactyl is a great way of keeping faster foes in check that can also check wallbreakers such as Kyurem-B and Tapu Koko as well as remove a massive nuisance in Choice item Victini with Pursuit. Gliscor is fantastic at blocking burn and paralysis for Celesteela; it can switch into Pokemon like Will-O-Wisp Mew and absorb weak Scalds from Pokemon like Toxapex and defensive Swampert. It also checks Electric-types like Tapu Koko for Celesteela and provides Defog support. Tornadus-T's access to Knock Off and Taunt allows it to break down opposing walls like Toxapex that Celesteela struggles with. It can also outpace and remove wallbreakers like Kyurem-B. Choice Scarf Landorus-T can remove troublesome Electric-types like Tapu Koko and wallbreakers like Choice Band Victini.

Moves Heavy Slam is Celesteela's best attack, granting it super effective damage on some Fairy- and Rock-types and activating Beast Boost with each KO. Despite the low Attack investment, Heavy Slam is fairly strong due to Celesteela's high weight making it 120 Base Power against almost all foes. Leech Seed provides recovery and chip damage on Celesteela's foes at the end of each turn, which helps recover health lost from acting as a defensive switchin and to whittle down threats until they can be KOed by Heavy Slam. Flamethrower allows Celesteela to patch up matchups against Kartana and Genesect that would otherwise be near-stalemates. Alternatively, Substitute turns Celesteela into a late-game wincon, making it very difficult to break after Special Defense boosts and shielding it from possibly fatal attacks, status effects, and secondary effects accompanying weaker attacks like Fake Out and Knock Off. Lastly, Protect allows Celesteela to stall for recovery from Leftovers and Leech Seed, scout movesets, and wait out threatening field effects. Wide Guard may be used instead to turn Celesteela into a more supportive threat, which is often appreciated by its teammates due to the move's poor distribution. Set Details 248 HP and 12 Defense EVs guarantee that Celesteela will survive Mega Metagross's Thunder Punch in Electric Terrain. 120 EVs are placed in Attack to ensure that Celesteela can hit slightly harder, most notably guaranteeing an OHKO on bulky Tapu Lele sets. The remaining EVs are placed in Special Defense to patch up Celesteela's special bulk. Leftovers are crucial to keep Celesteela healthy and restore any HP lost from using Substitute. Beast Boost raises Celesteela's Special Defense one stage each time it gets a KO with Heavy Slam, making it bulkier and more difficult to break. If Celesteela isn't using Flamethrower, it may opt for a Careful nature instead as its Special Attack stat would be inconsequential. Usage Tips With its solid bulk and solid defensive typing, Celesteela makes a fantastic pivot into resisted attacks from foes such as Tapu Lele and Mega Metagross; it can recover any health lost while switching in from Leech Seed and Leftovers recovery and keep various hard-hitters in check. Use Leech Seed against any foes that do not pose an immediate threat, as the additional recovery is instrumental to Celesteela's success. Although Heavy Slam typically has high Base Power and Celesteela's Attack stat is decent, it should really only be used against foes weak to Steel or foes that Celesteela can KO to get a Special Defense boost. Otherwise, dealing passive damage with Leech Seed and applying pressure by setting up Substitute is usually far more effective. Substitute is safe to use against anything that can't break it or on a predicted switch, but avoid using it too often, as Celesteela appreciates being at high HP to check the threats it's needed to. If Celesteela has used Leech Seed, Protect will allow it to recover a lot of health between the Leech Seed and Leftovers recovery. Try to avoid being hit by Knock Off, as Leftovers hugely helps Celesteela's longevity. If carrying Wide Guard, use the move whenever Celesteela or its partner is threatened by a spread move and the extra protection can help its ally take out a threat or set up. Team Options Any teammates that struggle with Psychic spam from the likes of Deoxys-A and Tapu Lele appreciate having Celesteela on their side. Celesteela struggles with both Electric- and Fire-types, so teammates to take on those, such as Tyranitar or Kyurem-B and Volcanion or Zygarde, respectively, help it out a lot. Ground-types in general are solid teammates for Celesteela, as its secondary Flying typing leaves it immune to Earthquake and Celesteela can hit Ice-types with Heavy Slam. Landorus-T in particular appreciates having an Earthquake-immune teammate and provides Intimidate support, which makes Celesteela's Substitute even more difficult to break, especially if it has accrued a Special Defense boost or two. Zygarde also deserves a special mention, as its checks are almost universally beaten by Celesteela, with Heavy Slam taking on Fairy- and Ice-type foes, while Zygarde sets up on and defeats most of Celesteela's checks. If Celesteela is using Wide Guard, pair it with teammates that are weak to spread moves such as Mega Charizard Y and Landorus-T.

Moves Leech Seed is Celesteela's primary means of maintaining its HP throughout the match. It helps force switches and wears down the opposing team, especially when facing threats like Mega Rayquaza and Marshadow, which do not have access to recovery. Protect is used to increase the recovery Celesteela receives from Leech Seed and Leftovers as well as scout Choice-locked Pokemon. Toxic is used to wear down the opposing team's support Pokemon as well as switch-ins to Celesteela, reducing their overall longevity and pressuring them, making it easier for Celesteela's teammates to sweep. The combination of Substitute and Protect, along with recovery from Leftovers and Leech Seed, enables Celesteela to wear down the foe more efficiently. Flame Charge is used to outspeed threats such as support Arceus, Calm Mind Arceus, and Necrozma-DM. Provided Celesteela hasn't been afflicted with Leech Seed, Flame Charge allows it to beat Ferrothorn. Celesteela is still quite slow after this boost, so Flame Charge must be used multiple times in order to gather significant Speed. Heavy Slam is used to hit Pokemon such as Mega Gengar, which traps Celesteela and can afflict it with Taunt to shut it down otherwise, as well as hitting threats such as Xerneas, Marshadow, Mega Rayquaza, and Ultra Necrozma for solid damage. Set Details Maximum HP and Defense investment helps Celesteela better handle Pokemon such as Marshadow, Swords Dance Arceus formes, and Swords Dance Ultra Necrozma and switch into non-V-create Mega Rayquaza. Its Special Defense is high enough naturally to handle support Arceus and other passive Pokemon uninvested, so it should not be invested in. Leftovers is the only item for Celesteela, as it allows it to recover more HP in conjunction with Leech Seed, as well as providing recovery if Leech Seed misses. Usage Tips Celesteela should be used primarily to wear down passive Pokemon such as the ubiquitous support Arceus formes, which can do little to Celesteela, while it can poison them with Toxic or recover HP on them. Celesteela should be brought in on Pokemon that it walls such as Arceus-Ground, Arceus-Steel, Arceus-Poison, defensive Necrozma-DM, and Arceus-Fairy. Leech Seed is its most spammable move and should be used generously to keep Celesteela's HP high throughout the match. Protect can be used to scout Choice-locked Pokemon such as Mega Rayquaza, Ho-Oh, and Yveltal. This move must be used carefully, however, as it can give the opponent free setup turns or a boost from Moody. Toxic should be used when Celesteela does not need Leech Seed recovery, as it can permanently hinder an opponent's Pokemon unless a cleric is present. Heavy Slam prevents Celesteela from being completely passive and provides a way to break opposing Pokemon that have Substitute or Taunt. It also more quickly pressures Pokemon that cannot be worn down with status such as Mega Gengar. Flame Charge variants can take on and defeat Pokemon such as Arceus-Steel, Arceus-Poison, and Necrozma-DM, as they can rack up Speed boosts to be faster, set Leech Seed, and use Substitute and Protect to stall out the foe's PP and maintain Celesteela's HP. Celesteela heavily benefits from entry hazard support, as the opponent may try to stall out Leech Seed and Flame Charge's PP with constant switches. Celesteela needs to keep its HP high so it can keep its teammates safe from opposing bulky Toxic users, so it is very important for Celesteela to not stay in against strong special attackers, as it acts as a physical wall to passive Pokemon, as well as not staying in on Pokemon with strong super effective hits such as Zygarde, Mega Rayquaza, Ho-Oh, and Primal Groudon. Celesteela should not be left in against Pokemon with Substitute, as it cannot break it and they are immune to Leech Seed and Toxic. To avoid being trapped by Gothitelle, aggressive switching can be used. Team Options Celesteela acts as a fantastic defensive glue on balanced teams that need to wear down opposing passive walls, so it fits best with Pokemon seen on balanced teams rather than stall. Entry hazard support such as Stealth Rock is great for Celesteela teams, as it increases the damage to the opposing Pokemon when combined with Toxic + Leech Seed damage. Arceus-Rock makes a great partner for Celesteela, as together they can wall most Rayquaza sets with their combined typings, and Arceus-Rock can set Stealth Rock. Arceus-Water can check Pokemon that annoy Celesteela such as Zygarde-C, Ho-Oh, and Primal Groudon, although it must be wary of Toxic. Ferrothorn makes a good partner for Celesteela, as together they form a Leech Seed core that wears down the opposing team, and Ferrothorn can set entry hazards for Celesteela as well as handle Primal Kyogre. Zygarde is another great partner for Celesteela, as it can handle Ho-Oh and Groudon and wall other Zygarde with either Dragon Tail or Haze. It can also help spread Toxic if it opts to run it. Celesteela in turn takes care of support Arceus formes such as Fairy, Water, and Ground. Setup sweepers that benefit from bulky support Pokemon worn down such as Mega Rayquaza and Ultra Necrozma appreciate Celesteela's help. Yveltal and Arceus-Dark are good partners for Celesteela, as they can take out and pressure Mega Gengar and Gothitelle. Offensive answers to Calm Mind Arceus formes such as Arceus-Dark, Arceus-Fairy with Fire Blast, and Arceus-Rock are important if Flame Charge is not used, such as Choice Scarf Rayquaza and Marshadow, as well as defensive ones such as Chansey and Ho-Oh.

Moves Shore Up gives Celesteela the longevity it needs in order to consistently check the Pokemon it wishes to. Scald allows Celesteela to force Primal Groudon out, threatening heavy damage in rain. It can also be used to try burning opposing Pokemon, halving their physical damage output and putting them on a timer. In addition to this, it allows Celesteela to punish slow pivoting by burning a Pokemon that may wish to use U-turn on it and damaging the switch-in of choice. However, the burn is predictable, and it does not let Celesteela check Primal Groudon as well. Topsy-Turvy allows Celesteela to check Pokemon such as Xerneas, Contrary Mega Mewtwo Y, and Regigigas. Spectral Thief can be used instead order to steal the foe's boosts, but this makes Celesteela unable to check Regigigas well, and it may make Imposter Pokemon difficult to check in some scenarios. However, it does have the advantage of hitting certain Pokemon such as Mega Mewtwo Y super effectively, not being blocked by Taunt, and bypassing Substitutes, making it a nice option to consider. Defog is used to remove entry hazards, benefiting Celesteela's teammates that may dislike them. Defog is used over Rapid Spin, as Celesteela finds it hard to sufficiently damage Giratina and therefore cannot use Rapid Spin without risking Giratina coming in easily. However, if entry hazard removal is taken on by teammates, Anchor Shot can be used to trap Imposter users. It also functions well with Spectral Thief, enabling Celesteela to trap sweepers and consistently steal their boosts while also damaging them, eventually defeating them. Anchor Shot can also help trap Poison Heal Mega Audino, Xerneas, and Mega Diancie while also functioning as a strong Steel-type STAB move in general. However, given that the four moves on the set are vital and Celesteela risks being burned by Scald if it traps its own Imposter, it is difficult to justify running Anchor Shot on the set. Finally, U-turn can be used to grant momentum to the team, but it is also difficult to fit in. Entrainment can also be used instead of Defog to remove abilities from -ate users and Poison Heal sweepers. In conjunction with Anchor Shot, Celesteela can use Entrainment to trap and defeat Poison Heal sweepers. Set Details Primordial Sea allows Celesteela to prevent Pokemon from using Fire-type moves. It is preferred over Flash Fire because it boosts the power of Celesteela's Scald and allows Celesteela to use Scald on Primal Groudon. However, it makes Celesteela take increased damage from Water-type moves, which may inconvenience it in emergency situations and gives it a worse matchup versus RegenVest Primal Kyogre. 0 Speed IVs in conjunction with a Sassy nature lets Celesteela underspeed as many Pokemon as possible. This allows Celesteela to check slow setup Pokemon in addition to other setup Pokemon. Leftovers provides passive recovery, reducing Celesteela's need to use Shore Up. Waterium Z provides an immunity to Trick as well as decreased damage from Knock Off. It also provides a way to OHKO Primal Groudon. Usage Tips Make sure you know a Pokemon's full set before switching Celesteela on it. Celesteela does not take coverage well due to its average bulk, so while coverage is rare, it is vital to make sure that Celesteela can fully check Pokemon it is supposed to such as Mega Diancie. Otherwise, you risk losing Celesteela. If you are Primordial Sea and the opponent has a Primal Groudon, ensure you play Celesteela as carefully as possible. If you do not, Primal Groudon can come in on Celesteela and force it out. Flash Fire sets do not face this difficulty, so you can switch in Celesteela more liberally if it is Flash Fire and the opponent's Primal Groudon is currently healthy. Scout for moves that cause burns such as Will-O-Wisp. While Celesteela does not mind most forms of status, it dislikes being burned, as it makes it easier for it to get worn down. Make sure you exclusively bring Celesteela in on Pokemon it can wall, as it is important for Celesteela to stay healthy, and staying in on Pokemon Celesteela does not wall can cause it to be unable to check the Pokemon it wishes to later on in the game, such as Regigigas and Mega Diancie. If you do not need to use a specific move, Scald can be used liberally to try to get burns on the opponent's Pokemon. Against slow pivots, Beak Blast can be used to burn the pivoting Pokemon as well as deal damage to the Pokemon that is brought in. This allows Celesteela to discourage slow pivoting. Make sure Primal Groudon does not have Bolt Strike as coverage, as otherwise Celesteela will be KOed. Celesteela cannot switch into Regenerator Pokemon like other Steel-types can, as it is extremely vulnerable to chip damage and should avoid taking as much unnecessary damage as possible. Team Options Primal Groudon is a potent sweeper that can be Imposter-proofed by Celesteela. In return, Primal Groudon can also threaten Celesteela thanks to Desolate Land blocking Scald in conjunction with boosting V-create's power. Wallbreakers such as Mega Diancie appreciate Celesteela's immunity to Fire- and Ground-type coverage, which allows them to freely run coverage attacks against other Steel-types without fear of Imposter. Celesteela's unique typing allows it to Imposter-proof wallbreakers, such as Mega Garchomp and Kartana, which would normally be difficult to Imposter-proof. Pokemon such as Primal Groudon, Ferrothorn, and Mega Steelix can check the Electric-types that give Celesteela trouble. Pokemon that check Mega Mewtwo X such as Mega Sableye, Cresselia, and Mega Slowbro can form a defensive core with Celesteela, as Celesteela deals with their offensive checks as well. For example, Giratina is an excellent partner due to checking Mega Mewtwo X and Electric-types. Imposter is also a good team option, as it allows you to scout for surprise coverage that may potentially make Celesteela unable to check a Pokemon. Extra entry hazard control is appreciated, as Celesteela is not a reliable Defogger. Magic Bounce Pokemon or Pokemon that use Defog can fulfill this role, such as Mega Audino and Giratina. If Celesteela does not have Topsy-Turvy, Regigigas checks such as Mega Tyranitar, Poison Heal Zygarde-C, and Dialga are necessary. Using Celesteela as your primary -ate check leaves it vulnerable to -ate sets that hold Choice Specs, as well as Kyurem-B. For this reason, it is recommended to have another -ate check to go along with Celesteela, such as another Steel-type, Soundproof Mega Slowbro, or Soundproof Zygarde-C. Pokemon that check Primal Kyogre such as Dialga, Ferrothorn, and Zekrom are appreciated, as Celesteela struggles to take it on.

A Jolly nature gives Celesteela just enough Speed to get a Speed boost whenever it KOes a threat. With boosted Speed, Celesteela becomes an especially dangerous user of Leech Seed and Substitute, being able to outspeed major threats such as Thundurus-T that lack Choice Scarf. The Speed boost means Protect + Substitute cycles make fools out of slower Pokemon, but note that the lack of coverage makes Ferrothorn and Mega Venusaur big issues, so this Celesteela will need more support than usual.

While Celesteela's special attacks aren't as powerful as its physical attacks, focusing on special offense lets Celesteela have better coverage, and it can still deal plenty of damage once Beast Boost kicks in. Assault Vest is still useful for taking Special Attacks, but Flyinnium Z gives Celesteela a surprise attack with Supersonic Skystrike, which can KO unsuspecting weakened Pokemon. Expert Belt is still a good choice for taking advantage of Celesteela's coverage. Note that this Celesteela in particular struggles against stall teams due to the prevalence of Chansey and Toxapex.

Beast Boost and Heavy Slam make Celesteela a surprisingly potent physical threat. Flamethrower and Hidden Power Ice help with its coverage issues, although they aren't particularly powerful. Assault Vest makes Celesteela rather difficult to KO and could potentially let it surprise Tapu Koko, which needs Thunderbolt or Gigavolt Havoc to OHKO, with Earthquake, while Expert Belt makes Flamethrower and Hidden Power Ice less weak against their most common targets. Just note that this Celesteela is much easier to KO than the defensive set.

Celesteela is one of the premier Leech Seed users of Battle Spot Singles, thanks to its good typing and access to a powerful Heavy Slam. Flamethrower works well against Grass-types that are immune to Leech Seed, but Earthquake is a good way to surprise Magnezone. Protect, when paired with Leech Seed and Leftovers, can help Celesteela rack up plenty of recovery. Rocky Helmet does make it a better check against physical attackers like Mega Kangaskhan, however, while Aguav Berry can give Celesteela a major boost in health if it goes below 25% of its HP. While Celesteela is usually a physically defensive threat, it can use a specially defensive set as well to better deal with threats such as Tapu Lele. Also, Hidden Power Ice can be slotted in to deal more damage to Landorus-T and Mega Salamence, and Air Slash can be used to blast through Mega Heracross.
